Hurting him again

Chapter 88
Iris
His face turned blank and I almost regretted making the request, but it was too late because the words had left my lips and I could only leave his room unharmed by convincing him.
He peered at me, his dark orbs boring into mine with glints of doubt. I was done for.
“What are you talking about?” His voice was deceptively calm.
If I didn’t know him before now, I’d have thought we were already seeing eye to eye on the subject but then did I really know him well? From being my bodyguard, he had overthrown my mate and even found a way to make me his Luna.
If I survived this, I’d be sure to never undermine anyone again.
“Ummm, let me explain it to you…” I chuckled, nervously, tucking my hair behind my ear while I avoided his piercing gaze. “Don’t you think it will break him further if I’m the one inflicting pain on him? I mean, I’ve already betrayed him but he’d be more contrite and depressed when I insistently prove to him that we are over and I don’t care about his existence,”
His eyes lit up in understanding and his lips stretched into a wide grin. “Aha!” He snapped his fingers. “That’s a wonderful idea, Iris. I’ve been looking for a way to make him bow to me but he’s been so obstinate. Now you’ll be my right arm and when he sees you hurting him nonchalantly, he’ll have no choice but to how to me.”
I nodded, forcing a smile while a knot tightened in my stomach. If only the idiot knew that he was the only one I wanted to see suffer, he wouldn’t be smiling like a lunatic.
I clapped my hands, giddy with fake excitement. “I’m glad you understand me. And if you don’t trust me enough, your men can escort me to the cell,” I suggested.
He shook his head vehemently. “No, no, no. I trust you wholeheartedly. You won’t let me down, will you?”
“Of course, I won’t. Now let me get to work. The earlier he’s injected, the better for us,” I smirked and tried to get away from him but he was quick to pin me down.
He rolled me over so that he would tower over me, and he drew closer while I held my breath, hoping that he wouldn’t allow his intrusive thoughts to win.
Instinctively, I clamped my thighs, my body taut with trepidation. Then he sniffed my neck where the spritz of perfume I’d sprayed earlier was and cooed.
“Mmmm… You smell so good, but don’t forget that you owe me something because I can’t wait to have this jaw-dropping body to myself. It’s all I’ve dreamed of apart from reclaiming my throne ever since I saw you,” He gushed, staring at me intensely.
My body shuddered involuntarily, but I hid my anxiety with a sultry smile and caressed his face.
What was I supposed to say to him?
“That day would be the best day of my life,” I replied. Because you are going to die by my hands, I wanted to add.
He stowed away and relaxed against the headboard. “Alright then. You should go and execute our plans. The syringe is with Lyros,”

After thirty minutes of scrubbing away his disgusting touch from my skin and tossing the black lingerie away, I was finally ready to face the man who I hurt beyond words.
As much as I wanted to tell him the truth, I didn’t think it was time yet. Firstly, I had to know the people that were still loyal to him and then I’ll begin to make plans and I need to find Hegar for Hazel and Gradel’s sake.
I put on a long black silk maxi dress and covered my face with a matching black scarf. Thankfully, the dress was twice my size and the scarf stretched to my stomach, covering that part of my body.
I’d dressed that way so that I’d be able to hide some food which I asked Maria to prepare for me and the energy potion. Instead of the poison, I’d be injecting the potion into his body while I searched for the antidote to the poison.
My heart thudded with fear and my soul sang with pain but I consoled myself with the reason for my actions. If only he’d be patient, though.
The distance from the manor to the pack’s cell wasn’t much of a distance but it felt strangely long. My legs trembled with each step and I struggled hard to keep my erratic breathing under control.
I gulped when I got to the cell and straightened my shoulders. It was either now or never.
The guard opened the door after bowing and I strolled in, my steps slow and uncertain. Gradel, who was bound hands and feet with chains, stared at me with anticipation when I appeared in front of him.
His lips were chapped and I could see how much he battled to break free from the chains. From what I discovered, the poison didn’t just weaken his human immune system, but its potency also affected his wolf, causing it to be immobile.
Little wonders, he hadn’t torn the guard who was asked to watch him into pieces.
Our eyes met and a small smile danced on his lips.
“Hi. You’re here,” He spoke hoarsely.
I nodded. “Yes, I’ve come to see you,” I began on a light note.
“Thank you,” He muttered and inclined his head.
I dragged my feet towards him and sat down. Then I lifted my scarf and dropped the food flask and a bottle of water I came with.
“Here, have this,” I pushed the food towards him and stared at him expectantly but an impassive facade suddenly appeared on his face, his cold reaction hitting me hard on the chest.
“Will you renounce your position as Elda’s Luna after you leave?”
I bit my lip, wondering why he had to throw such a difficult question at me. I wasn’t ready to tell him the truth yet.
So I cleared my throat and slowly shook my head in disagreement. “I’m not sure I can do that. I think I like my position as Luna too much to do that and also, I’m not here for random conversations so I’ll advise you to eat,”
He snorted and let out an angry chuckle. “Why are you here, then?”
“To see you,” I blurted because it was the truth.
Just a day without him and it seemed like my world had been turned upside down. Funny how I was considering asking for a break after what he did, but now I realized that we were soul-tied that was why it felt hard to do what I was about to do.
“Like you care,” He scoffed.
“I do care,” I murmured within me.
“Yes, I do. That’s why I’m going to do this,” I gazed at him with slight hesitation.
His eyes darted around in confusion but I didn’t give him time to figure out my actions as I quickly produced the syringe and stabbed his neck.
He groaned not so loudly and when our eyes met, all I saw was disappointment blaring from those glassy blue orbs I fell for.
“Iris…” He grunted, his eyelids closing while he reached out to me.
But I couldn’t stay back or I’d be forced to wrap my arms around him and that would bring a halt to my plans.
“I’m sorry, Gradel, but I just have to do this,” I said and ran out.
