Kael’s POV.
I sat behind my desk, my eyes fixed on Akira as she entered the room. She looked like she just heard something that made her nervous, it was evident from the beads of sweat on her forehead.
“Akira,” I said, my voice low. “I see you’ve made your decision.”
She nodded, her gaze matching mine. “Yes, Kael. I’ve decided to accept your proposal.”
I raised an eyebrow, but not surprised, I knew she would eventually come back, but for now, let’s play some games. “Really? I thought you’d be more hesitant.”
Akira took a deep breath. “I was, at first. But then I realized that this contract might be beneficial to the both of us and I would be stupid to let this slip through my fingers. I want to be your mate and Luna, and I want to help you lead the pack.”
I leaned back in my chair, tapping my index finger on my cheek. “I like your spirit, Akira. But let me make one thing clear: being my mate and Luna won’t be easy. There will be pressure from the council, and there will be challenges ahead. Are you sure you’re ready for this?”
Akira nodded, but her trembling fingers betrayed her determined look. “I’m ready, Kael. I promise.”
I smiled and rose to my feet. “Good. Then let’s make it official.”
I stood up and walked around the desk, my eyes on Akira’s. I took her hand in mine, feeling a spark of electricity when her fingers touched mine.
“Akira,” I said, my voice low and husky. “Will you be my mate and Luna, and help me lead the pack?”
Akira’s face lit up as she nodded. “Yes, Kael. I will.”
I smiled, feeling triumphant. “Good. Then it’s settled. We’ll announce our engagement at the next gathering, and we’ll start our new life together. I hope you play by the rules, ’cause I have a lot of them.”
Akira’s face lit up with a smile, and I felt my heart skip a beat.
But as we stood there, I on my seat and Akira on hers, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. Akira seemed hesitant, and I could see the doubt in her eyes.
“Akira,” I said, my voice low and smooth. “What’s wrong?”
Akira hesitated, her eyes darting around the room. “It’s just… I overheard you and zephyr talking earlier. About the pressure from the council.”
I nodded, my expression serious. “Yes, the council can be… nagging. But don’t worry, Akira. I’ll handle them. You don’t have to worry about it.”
Akira nodded, but I could sense her doubts. I knew that I had to reassure her, to make her feel safe and secure.
“Akira,” I said, my voice soft and gentle. “I promise you, I will always be here for you. I will protect you from the council, and from any other danger that may come our way. You are safe with me.”
Akira’s eyes locked on mine, and I could see the sudden shift in her expression. She smiled, and I felt my heart skip a beat.
“Thank you, Kael,” she said, her voice soft and gentle. “I trust you.”
I smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. I knew that everything was going to be okay and that Akira and I were going to fool the council and get rid of Keiran.
But I also knew that I had to be careful, to make sure that she didn’t slip away from me.
I smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. “Good,” I said, my voice soft and gentle. “Because I’m not going to let anything happen to you, Akira. You’re mine now, and I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe.”
“I like the sound of that,” she said, her voice cheerful and playful.
I chuckled. “Good,” I said, my voice low and smooth. “Because I’m going to make sure you’re happy, Akira. I promise. You do as you are told and you will be happy.”
As we stood there, holding each other and smiling, I knew that everything was going to be okay.
Suddenly I noticed she tensed up. Like she suddenly got reminded of something, something that scares her, or something that troubles her.
“Akira,” I said, my voice soft and gentle. “What’s wrong?”
Akira hesitated, her eyes darting around the room. “It’s just… I don’t know if I’m ready for this, Kael. I don’t know if I’m ready to be your mate and Luna in the real sense. I know I just agreed but…”
I nodded, I understood where she was going. “I know, Akira. It’s a big decision. But I promise you, I’ll be here for you every step of the way. We’ll face whatever comes our way together, and as for the council leave them to me.”
Akira nodded, her oval-shaped face wearing a beautiful smile. “Okay, Kael. I trust you.”
I smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. “Good,” I said, my voice soft and gentle. “Because I’m not going to let anything happen to you, Akira. You’re mine now, and I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe.”
“What are the rules for our alliance? The contract? What are the things you expect me to do?” Akira suddenly asked, bringing me back to my old cold state.
“Well, for starters we would act like the perfect couples in front of the pack and the council. But do not make it too obvious, some pack laws prohibit the King from loving an omega, but there are some loopholes in that law that we can use to our advantage and provide a strong front in front of the council. And now to the main reason why this union was even formed in the first place, Kieran is a very dangerous and cunning one. He already took Aria, my lost loyal breeder… so I will not be surprised if he tries to come for you.” I said, my words coming out one at a time.
“What to do about that?”
