Chapter 77: Ginevra’s death

Aurora’s POV
I watched Matteo and Ginevra exchange words while working hard to loosen the tight rope tied on my wrists. It was difficult as Ginevra did well in making sure that the knot proved hard to loose.
She was mistaken anyway because I had some knowledge from the street which included picking locks and untying knots.
Then I stopped as soon as Ginevra blurted her crazy offer. She wanted to have sex with Matteo right in front of me? Immediately my brain began to create images of the both of them having wild sex in front of me, causing me to cough in anger.
She averted her gaze from Matteo and smiled at me, her eyes taunting and mischievous.
Who could have known that Ginevra was this evil? I’d always sensed something ominous about her, but I didn’t know that she had gone beyond being merely crazy to psychotic.
“You don’t like the idea, right, honey?” She asked, her set of teeth flashing at me.
“You are despicable.” I spat and felt the rope come loose. My words caused her smile to wear off, but I wasn’t done yet. She would feel the sting of my words even if I was at the risk of losing my life. “You should be resting, but your innate desire for a young man’s body has erased your will to dream and do something reasonable with your life. When will you stop living in self denial and realise that Matteo didn’t love you and he never will?” I asked, my voice filled with confidence.
She rushed at me, nearly stabbing my neck if not for Matteo who was quick enough to restrain her and pull her away from me.
“It’s enough, Ginevra, I’ll do what you want.” He agreed and my eyes widened immediately, my lips parting in surprise.
Ginevra pushed away from me and flung herself onto Matteo who caught her after hesitating for a bit. “I’ve always known you to be a smart boy,” She patted his head, then trailed her fingers along his chest slowly which was covered with his light blue shirt.
“I’ve agreed to do it, but it will be on my terms.” He stated and glanced at me, his eyes reassuring and full of love.
Ginevra gripped his chin, taking his attention away from me. “Don’t look at her, Matteo, it’s quite disrespectful to me. Focus on me.” She ordered sharply as she wrapped her hand around his neck, straining her neck to plant a kiss on his lips.
“You have to drop your knife.” Matteo stated, as he tugged on the buttons of his shirt.
Jealousy surged through me as I worked harder in untying the knot which was already coming loose. She tilted her head towards me, her eyes scanning me suspiciously. Then her taunting smile replaced the suspicion that had earlier etched her face.
“I’m with your man now and there’s nothing you can do.” She stuck out her tongue and turned around so that Matteo would unzip her dress.
“If you don’t drop your knife then we can’t do anything.” He reinstated.
I peered at Matteo who had a confident expression. The way he pulled off his shirt told me that he had a plan and he wasn’t going to play into Ginevra’s game.
Finally, the rope came undone but I remained as I was. I winked at Matteo and gave him a signal that my hands were free then cleared my throat. “You don’t think I’ll allow you to sleep with my man, right?” I sneered, my brows arched as she clutched to her dress that almost slid down her body.
She laughed in disbelief, “You are tied to a stake, what can you do?” She retorted.
“I’ll show you.”
Immediately the words left my mouth, I lurched at her without hesitation, using her lack of preparation to push her roughly to the ground. The throbbing pain in my stomach resurfaced but I ignored it while I sent a hard punch to her face.
She kicked me aside and jumped to her feet, her lips curved in a snigger. “Stupid of me to have underrated the daughter of a late Capo, but I hope you know that if my people at the hospital don’t hear from me in the next five minutes, your precious little daughter will take the fall.”
Her eyes darted around the house as well, then she continued. “This house will also burn to the ground.”
Her gaze swung from Matteo to me who sucked in air and held my chest.
I glared at her, disdain glazing from my eyes but she remained unfazed. Matteo who was quite calm earlier produced a gun from his holster and shot one of her knees, causing her balance to sway as she dropped to the floor, wincing in pain. Yet the smirk didn’t leave her lips.
She produced a phone and waved it at us. “It’s over now.” She said in a sing-song tone.
“Sure it’s over, but not for us. For you.” He said and fired another shot at her wrist.
The cell phone dropped from her hand and I caught it with a limp. She wrapped her fingers around her wounded wrist, her face scrunched up in pain while Matteo strolled towards her, wearing the most dangerous and ferocious look I’d ever seen.
I wouldn’t blame him because our child was at stake, the house too, and seeing how he was ready to tear Ginevra into pieces it told me how much he loved our daughter.
“You are going to call your men to halt their plans and leave the ward or I’ll come for them and their families.” He roared, snaking his arm around her neck.
“I won’t do it and even if I tell them to leave your daughter they won’t believe me because I’ve promised them a lot of money.” She chuckled while I shook my head in disbelief.
Matteo tightened his grip around her neck, forgetting that he was dealing with a woman.
“Will you do as I say or should I strangle you to death?”
She sighed in resignation, her face turning red due to shortness of breath.”Al.. alright, I’ll call them.. Just… fvcking let me go!”
Matteo ignored her then I returned the phone to her, but her next step surprised us as she plunged a knife into Matteo’s side. My eyes widened in horror as I hastened towards her but Matteo was fast enough as he placed the gun under her throat and pressed the trigger.
Blood splattered everywhere together with the bits of her flesh including his shirt and the chair which I’d sat on and the floor. He pushed her corpse aside while I crouched beside him. “Are you alright?” I whispered.
“Don’t worry, principessa, I’ll be playing with Maya by tomorrow,” He said jokingly while I smiled at the name he’d chosen for her, then his expression became serious again. “But we have to stop this house from going ablaze then save her now and we have less than three minutes to do so.”
