Matteo’s POV
With my hands folded behind me, I paced to and fro in the control room. “Now we know that Ginevra is alive, but there’s another problem.” I reckoned.
“What could that be?”
“We don’t know where she might be right now and that is a very big disadvantage to us because she might be going for the people we care about right now.” I said, getting paranoid even though I tried to hide it because I was supposed to be the stronger one. Then something occurred to me, “We need to return to the hospital right now and watch over Aurora.”
Angelo stood up from the chair he’d been sitting on. “We need to catch that woman before she does any more harm to her. If she touches Giselle, I swear that I’ll carve her up myself.”
I nodded and we both walked out of the room hastily. I was a good driver, but when it came to someone who could drive crazily without causing an accident Angelo took the badge.
We had to get back to the hospital as soon as possible because I couldn’t get rid of the awry feeling that was spreading in my heart. “Drive faster, Angelo…” I urged him on, and he flashed me a sardonic glance then made the most dangerous turn I’ve ever seen him do.
Sirens began to wail behind us but I remained unbothered as he increased the gear and the speed which was against the speed limit dropped by the road officers. I’d deal with the cops later, right now I had to save my woman from Ginevra.
Angelo parked the car outside the hospital as we saw no need to drive in. We used the elevator which dropped us to the second floor where she was. I walked fast, almost bursting into a race as I barged into Aurora’s room without knocking and was startled by the sight that greeted us.
Giselle sprawled on the floor unconsciously with her hair covering every part of her face. If she was in this state already then Ginevra was faster than we thought and she was already with Aurora.
The only way I could find her with ease was through Aurora’s ring, and I hoped that she hadn’t taken it off. Today, I’d kill Ginevra slowly even though it was against my principles to hurt women.
Angelo rushed towards her, scooting to the ground as he tapped her continuously. His hands quavered as he leaned towards her and tucked the strands covering her face away. The rise and fall of her chest told us that she was still alive so we placed her on the bed while I brought out my phone and called Francesco.
It rang twice but he didn’t answer the phone which did well in dismantling any kind of patient I had. If he was close to me, I’d have sent him a punch.
My eyes averted towards Giselle whose eyes had opened and Angelo who never left her side. “Are you alright, baby?” His voice was laced with urgency and fear which was a bit surprising because I’d never seen him scared before.
“I’m… fine. Where’s…. Aurora?” She slurred, holding onto her forehead which was red and swollen.
“We couldn’t find her when we got in, but can you recall what happened before you collapsed.” Angelo asked while I made to call Francesco again.
She shut her eyes while Angelo glanced at me with a knowing look. “He isn’t picking up?”
“No doubt he’s fvcking his woman right now.” I growled, not with disdain because of what he was doing. Hell! I’d have been doing the same thing if Aurora had gotten better completely, but he was doing the right thing at the wrong time.
He picked up this time and hissed into the phone. “What now? I’m having a good time,” He whined.
“You won’t be having a good time if I set my eyes on you, Francesco.” I snarled angrily, propping my arm against my waist.
Shuffling of covers sounded from the background, then a woman’s enquiring voice which probably belonged to Caterina. For a moment I didn’t hear anything else then he asked. “Ginevra has her?”
I ruffled my hair, unable to believe the obvious fact. “It’s likely because Aurora cut ties with her family and the only person that has the motive to hurt her is Ginevra. We confirmed that she’s alive from the footage at the park and now Aurora isn’t in her ward anymore.”
“So what are we going to do?” He asked, and heard a zipping sound, his girl asking him what was going on.
“I have a plan.” I replied with a smirk
***********
“I thought you’d never make it here on time, Matteo. I’ve missed you so much.” Ginevra drawled, her face more wrinkled than before. Her lips tilted to the side with a grim smile as her fingers trailed around Aurora’s throat.
Though my fingers desired to gauge her eyes out of her skull and make a bloody mess of her, I had to relax and stay through to the plan.
“Haven’t you done enough, Ginevra?” I began with a scowl, my eyes glaring daggers at her while I took slow and less noticeable steps towards her.
She made a tsking sound and bit her lower lip in a seductive manner, winking at me at the same time. If anything, all her subtle approaches were repulsive. I just wanted to dig a knife into her throat and make her feel undiluted pain.
“Come on, Mat, don’t talk back to me in such a manner. Anything you do right now will influence my decision over your darling girlfriend and your beautiful daughter.” She slurred, twirling a small knife I hadn’t seen earlier.
I remained undaunted, but deep down I hoped that Francesco and Angelo wouldn’t make any mistake as I wasn’t ready to lose Aurora again.
“Ginevra, you have to stop this.” I urged and took another step towards her, while flashing a glance at Aurora who only gazed at me trustfully. I couldn’t fail her.
“Stop what, huh?” She said and left Aurora’s side, propping her left arm against her waist. “I fought death just to reclaim what is mine, so don’t think I’ll let you go so easily.”
“You deserved to die for trying to hurt the woman I love with all my heart.” I barked and she held onto her chest, a gasp escaping her lips as she faked surprise.
“You aren’t meant to say such things, Matteo. You love me and I love you too… She’s just a distraction, Matteo. Don’t say that to me…” She roared, her loud screams reverberating through the large living room.
“I don’t love you and I never will. You were just a means to an end.” I retorted calmly, digging my hands into my pocket with a satisfied smile.
Her fingers trailed the blade of the knife as she retreated back to Aurora, gripping her hair tightly. But Aurora gave out no emotion as she stayed still.
“Let her go!” I ordered with my Capo tone and watched her jolt, nearly losing her balance.
Then she flashed her annoying grim smirk at me. “Of course I will, if you agree to sleep with me right in front of her. And you know what, I’ll ride you so that she can see how I used to take care of you.” She said, all traces of her annoying smirk disappearing from her face.
“You must have lost your mind.”
“It’s either that, or I test the sharpness of this knife on her neck.” She snarled.
