BETA TIM’S POV
“I am here now, beta Tim,” a voice said.
I have been in the room since morning watching over the almost lifeless bodies of my sons, Carl and Hedrick.
That witch assured me that they would both be okay by morning but even up till noon none of them had made any move or even opened their eyes.
The sight was appalling. They used to be very gallant, strong, and fearless. Both of them were a sight to behold. They were the envy of all and the desire of the ladies. Now they have been reduced to nothing, a mere piece of vegetable.
What do I do now? Would I just sit back and watch them drift away little by little? How do I save them?
But no, Mildrid already said that they would be okay today and there are still a lot of hours before the day ends. I will have to wait, I just have to wait a little more.
“Did you even hear me, Tim, or did you just decide to ignore me?”
I finally decided to look up and saw that it was her. Mildrid, I would know her anytime any day. I don’t even need to look at the face. This is good, maybe she has finally come to wake my sons up.
I straightened myself and put up a smile. “My lady, you came. See I have been waiting here, I know you will surely come. My sons, they are still sleeping, waiting for you, to come to wake them up” I said to her.
“We agreed that it is going to be today, Tim” she replied with a straight face.
I know, she has to be serious. It is not an easy task. Reviving someone who is almost dead is not easy let alone reviving two people at once.
“Yes, my lady. And that is why I have been here since morning. I never doubted you, I know you will not fail” I put up a smile.
She looked at me fiercely and this made me shudder.
“Quit putting up the act, Tim, take me to your alpha now” she ordered.
I was stunned. I thought she was here for my sons. My sons are supposed to wake up today. That was the promise she made. “Mildrid… my sons, you promised that they would be well today”
“They will wake when they want to, Tim, quit being a scared little dog” she replied with a sinister smile.
But what does she take me for, a moron? What game is she trying to play? She has been attending to my sons ever since, and instead of getting better, they are only getting worse. She should not think that I will let her go scot-free if something happens to any of my sons.
“Mildrid, you assured me… us that they would be awake before dawn. But no improvement, none since you started attending to them. And now you request that I take you to the alpha. My sons are not well yet and even the queen of Pixolands that you are supposed to kill is still hail and healthy. What do you take me for?” I sparked in anger.
In response, she giggled and turned her face away. “Tim… Tim. Don’t try to step on me”
“My sons will have to get well as you have promised. You must keep to your part of the deal” I retorted angrily.
She looked at me fiercely, hate and anger radiating in her eyes. “Look here, Tim, that I cannot heal your sons should not be misinterpreted as me not being able to take away their life if I so desire, I can do that right here and now. Don’t try to mess with me”
Saying this, she raised her hands in the direction of my sons and fire came out of her hands. I immediately knelt down and grabbed her legs. “Have mercy, my lady, please have mercy on my sons. I am only but a mere mortal, a foolish man who knows nothing. Please don’t take your anger on my sons… please, my lady” I begged in tears.
She looked down at me and gnashed her teeth angrily.
“Have mercy, my lady, have mercy” I continued to beg.
After a while, she put down her hands. Seeing that she had calmed down, I slowly stood up.
“My… my lady” I stammered.
“Take me to your alpha” she requested harshly.
“What do I say to the alpha, my lady? Actually, about my sons, I only wanted to use that as leverage to penetrate the alpha. The alpha hates me now and he sees me as someone that is up to no good” I tried to explain myself to her. I sincerely hope that she reasons with me.
She smirked and patted my back. “Tim… Tim. You are an elder but still reason like a child. Do you really believe that you have a chance against me? You hold yourself so high. Alpha Fred flatter you, don’t expect me to do same too” she said.
“I… I will take you to see the alpha. He will chase us out, what are we going to do then?” I asked in anxiety.
“Take me to him first, Tim. Introduce me to him and I will take over from that, don’t look down on me” she responded.
I thought about what she said. Doing that will not be difficult, on the contrary, it will be a very easy task. Then it will be left for the alpha to decide what he wants to do with her.
She brought this on us and left for me, I would have just allowed her to leave with her bag of trouble but now she wants to present herself to the alpha.
I could as well succeed in killing two huge birds with one tiny stone. The alpha would take away the blame from me and focus on the witch. I will hand over the witch to him and will be free from any blame.
Now even the alpha would have no cause to question my loyalty to the Pack. We can even hand the witch over to the Pixies. The queen would have to deal with her as she pleases. And then, maybe she will hold nothing against us, maybe she will forgive us and not crush us. The witch was the one who brought the disaster upon her king.
I smiled. Things are going my way. The moon goddess is finally smiling upon me. She has seen my good heart and has decided to reward my effort even without me lifting a finger.
But why is the witch insisting that I be the one to present her to the alpha? Anyway, there is no need for me to bother myself with her reason. It is even better I personally hand her over. That will place me back in the good book of the Alpha and the Pack. Who knows, even the queen of Pixolands might decide to make me her most valued ally for this singular act.
“You are smart, Tim, I was beginning to think that I underestimated you,” she said looking at me with a smirk.
Whatever that means, I am happy with myself. “Yes… yes, my lady, let us leave now. I need to bring you to Alpha Fred” I replied.
We followed behind but getting to the door, I stopped and asked her. “My… my lady, my sons”
“Don’t worry, Tim, I still have my eyes on them. I never go back on my words” she replied.
Her response lifted my spirit and I walked away gladly.
