SAM’S POV
“No one will be going to the Pixies”
Mildrid’s announcement caught us unaware and we all turned in her direction in utmost dismay.
“As I said earlier, the boys will be better, I can take care of this” she added confidently.
This lady, why do I find it hard to trust her? She has been with my brothers all morning and yet there is no improvement. They haven’t even spoken a single word. Why then is she still asserting that she is equal to the task or does she want them to die before she finally admits her incompetence?
“What is happening, my lady, are they okay now?” my father asked excitedly.
“They are recovering. Now you all will have to leave and let them rest” she replied with what I would term a fake smile.
“But they haven’t opened their eyes yet, they haven’t even said a single word” I countered.
“Come on boy. They cannot speak just now. Their heart rates have stabilized and they need all the rest that they can get. See you just have to give them space for some fresh air” she replied. I could detect a hint of spite in her voice which she cleverly tried to hide.
“But I need to see them at least. Go close to them and feel their heartbeat” I insisted.
I don’t intend to allow her to deceive me with her mischief. Her tactics can work with every other person but not with me. So I must see my brothers and make sure that they are still breathing before we allow her to leave here. Should my brothers be no more, even her life will not be an adequate price to atone for their death.
“Sam, don’t be difficult. I know how you feel but that is no way to approach my lady” my father reprimanded me.
I tried to put up a defense. Even though I did not trust the witch, I must guide my utterances. “But dad, she already said…”
Mildrid interjected. “Leave the boy, Tim. He should go ahead and see his brothers. But Sam you must be careful not to wake them up. It took me great effort to put them in such a comforting sleep”
“You heard her, Sam, you don’t have to wake them up, be careful,” my father warned.
“Even you can go and take a look,” Mildrid said to my parents.
“No… no, we don’t want to ruin your great effort. We trust in your efficiency” my father replied proudly.
“When will they be awake, Mildrid?” my mother asked.
“Didn’t you hear her? She already said that they need to rest. Once that is dawn, they will be awake and hale once again” my father responded in excitement.
“Yes, Ma Patricia, by tomorrow you will have your boys running around again. The queen of the Pixies is no match for me” she boasted.
“Oh… you are so great, Mildrid. I don’t know what we would have done without you” My mother replied in excitement.
“Mildrid I will surely repay you tremendously for this” my father announced happily.
Repay her, repay her for what exactly? She is the one who brought us into this mess in the first place. If my father had not brought her to the battle the queen would not have fought so ruthlessly.
I appear to be the only one who was not caught up in her fakeness. “They are sleeping but their breathing is still very faint. I will take it to be as a result of the deep sleep” I announced in a low spirit.
“Yes, once they wake, you will see them hale again” my father responded.
I did not wait to hear anymore but walked out angrily. Left for me, I would have strangled that witch immediately. God help her should anything happen to my brothers.
BETA TIM’S POV
“Mildrid I will surely repay you tremendously for this” I announced.
I was extremely excited. The mere thought that my sons would be well again elated my spirit. And the fact that the king of the Pixies will never be able to recover even caused my joy to overflow.
We might have surrendered to the Pixies, but in this fight, we lost nothing while they lost everything. Their king.
I am ready to do all Mildrid asks. I will do everything she wants and not even alpha Fred can stand in my way. Mildrid has been a great help to us in this battle and none should dare to undermine her. Once my sons are alright, I will do right by her.
I was still reminiscing my despicable achievement when Sam said in dismay. “They are sleeping but their breathing is still very faint. I will take it to be as a result of the deep sleep”.
“Yes, once they wake, you will see them hale again” I assured him.
I wonder why he worries himself too much. Mildrid is here and she is the best. He has no cause to worry as Mildrid will take care of everything.
“Thanks, Mildrid. As you already instructed, I will leave now. I will get the servants to come to stay with them until they wake up” Patricia said in excitement and left after her son. The woman is so happy to be with her sons once again.
I was about to go out too when Mildrid pulled me back and before I could realize what was going on her lips were already on mine.
“I will never get tired of having you” she pants and lets out a moan.
“Stop it…” I protested in fear but did not try to stop her.
I tried to fight off the already built-up desire in me. What if my sons wake up or someone comes in? I will not want words of our relationship to go out as I know that the alpha would never approve of such.
She bit my lips and moved her hands downwards grabbing my middle fiercely. “And what are you afraid of, beta Tim?” she shrieks.
I struggled for breath under her hold. “Someone might see us. The boys, they are here” I must admit that she was just as honey and I was finding it difficult to resist her but I must try to control myself.
“They are in deep sleep. And who cares if someone sees us?” she moaned into my ears. Her voice sent waves of tingling delight all over me.
“The alpha, he mustn’t find out about us” I begged.
She giggled and pulled away from me. “You care about so many things, beta Tim, but I wonder why such was never shown to your daughter”
My daughter… Scarlet?
I know that is who she was talking about. This would be the second time she is indirectly talking about Scarlet. But I did right by Scarlet, why does she aim to make me appear like the bad one?
“She lived under my roof. I never abandoned her and I made sure to get her married to an alpha” I spat.
She chuckles and pulls me into her kiss again. “I know you love a good name, beta Tim”
“She was so different from us… our nightmare” I said in bitterness as anger ravaged my soul.
I don’t want to be reminded of that mistake ever again, the mere thought of that girl has killed all my lustful desires.
She let go of me and kept a straight face. “When do I get my place in the Packhouse?” she asked.
At first, I was startled by her sudden question. My sons are still lying almost lifeless and here she is talking about…”Everything is happening really fast. Once we are settled, I will see to it that you are adequately rewarded” I replied.
She laughed. “I can’t wait any longer”
“Okay, once my sons are alright… tomorrow. I will take you to the alpha. He will have no other choice but to agree with my request” I replied nervously.
That is the only way that I can go about this. If the alpha should see my son well, his faith in Mildrid will be strong and he will have no choice but to allow her in the packhouse.
“Tomorrow it is, Tim. I had no obligations to heal your sons from the start” she said with a sinister smile and walked out.
How would she walk out just like that? I have not had any prior discussion about this with the alpha, I don’t even know how to go about it. If my sons are still lying lifeless how would alpha Fred even listen to me?
This is unbelievable. I learned it the hard way, but I will never make another deal with the devil.
