CHAPTER 126 – AN UNFAIR WAR PRACTICE

LARA’S POV
I proceeded with the fortification, attending to each of them as they came. Those that have already been fortified have gone off the lay siege to the unsuspecting soldiers from Diamond Cut Pack.
I promise the intruders that this will be a fight that they never envisaged.
Coming against us in this manner was the height of it.
They knew that our soldiers had all gone to war and thus they believed that we were left unprotected. But what is about to meet them would surely be beyond anything that they have ever seen. I will see to it that they are unable to bring down even a single roof here in Pixolands.
The plan is that all those that are wolfless would attack with their arrows, they do not need to engage in physical combat as that would be left for we wolves.
Some others will remain here in the palace should peradventure the soldiers get here. While the armies from Wild Cloak will take the fight from the rear, attacking the unsuspecting intruders from behind.
I may not know much about fights and battles, but I know that we have a great chance against them especially since our counterattack would come to them as a great surprise.
I checked the line and seeing that it was almost coming to an end, I heaved in gratitude, happy that this process would not take as long as I had anticipated so I continued with my task earnestly.
It got to a female, and as I reached for her forehead, a familiar scent hit me. I quickly brought down my hands and titled her face up. It was Dawn.
“Dawn…” I exclaimed. “W… what are you… you doing here?” I stammered.
“I am here to get fortified” she replied.
“No, Dawn, no, you shouldn’t be here…” I refuted.
“But why?” she quickly interjected.
“You should be hiding with the others” I replied, still stunned.
“But I can fight too, others are fighting” she insisted.
“You can’t do this” I persisted, still stunned.
“And why is that so?” she inquired.
“You just can’t, Dawn. The queen would kill me should any harm come to you. I am not letting you do this” I replied.
“I am a fighter, Lara. Don’t forget that I have beta blood. You know how father is, I trained all my life, I was trained to fight like an alpha wolf…” she explained.
I could not let her go on, so I cut her short. “It still doesn’t matter. Your sister would not allow this” I pleaded.
Before I could finish my words, she took the medicinal mixture and fortified herself. I gasped in shock and fear. It is more like Dawn, never taking no for an answer.
DAWN’S POV
“You should be hiding with the others” she whispered. looking perplexed.
Of course, I knew that I was expected to go into hiding with the others, at least I was their visitor and should be afforded the maximum amount of protection, but then, I could fight, even better than most of them.
When Lara was leading everyone to the mine, I allowed her to see me running ahead of her so she would think that I had run to safety. But then I found a safe spot and hid, and when she passed, I returned back to the palace and hid close to the courthouse.
I wanted to fight even if that would be the only good thing that I would do for my sister, Scarlet, and so all that Lara was blabbing about held no water to me.
I know I should not fight against the army of my Pack especially since I have not broken my bond with them. But then they are in the wrong in this case. Leaving the battlefield to come against the helpless villagers was an unfair war practice to which I sincerely believe that I have the right to defend the victims.
Listening to Lara was beginning to get on my nerves. Even though she meant well, she should know better than harbouring the thought that I would turn back. I never take no for an answer.
I watched her and as soon as she turned her gaze away for a split second, I collected the concoction and quickly applied it to myself.
Standing at the back all along, I have carefully been watching her apply it on the others as I was sure something like this was going to happen, thereby forcing me to retreat since I don’t have the requisite protection.
And at least, this singular act would absorb her from the fury of my sister. It wasn’t her fault that I used the concoction against her will. I had done so when she was not looking.
“You still can’t go, Dawn,” she said frankly.
“But why?” I asked.
Why was she been so difficult? We all want to win this war and every strategy should be utilized. And so I said.
“We must win, Lara. The queen must not come back to meet her kingdom in shambles. Allow me, this is not a mere fight, it is a war in which every strategy should be employed. This battle needs me” I added in the hopes that she would understand with me and agree to my request.
She sighed and waited for a while before responding. “You will be seen. You are the well-known daughter of beta Tim. They mustn’t know that you are with us” she mumbled.
“Don’t worry, I am going to disguise myself. I will be fighting in my wolf form, and I have a way of making my wolf appear just as an ordinary wolf” I assured her.
I am no fool, even I know better than to openly go against the soldiers from my Pack if I don’t want to go rogue.
I know this war would end someday, and parties would forgive each other for the loss suffered, but no Pack would ever forgive a member that fought alongside an enemy in a war, most especially one that is a beta and should know better.
She continued with the fortification. It was just very few people remaining, with Kendra and Mia at the end. When she got to them, she said. “Kendra and Mia would always remain by your side during this fight. Should it happen that you had to shift into your human form, they are to bring you back here immediately before the opponent would recognize you”.
“I understand, Lara, and thank you. I hope it never gets to that” I replied.
“Please don’t take any chances” she warned and I nodded in agreement.
“We understand, Lara” Mia replied.
She fortified them, and immediately the three of us, Kendra, Mia, and I shifted to our wolves and ran off.
