SCARLET’S POV
This is the secret to the strength of the armies of Diamond Cut. They fight in accordance with their terms and once an opponent bends to their will, he loses focus and would be easily defeated by them.
I come to know about all of these from the endless chatters between Carl and Hedrick. How I hated being made to wait on them while they were engaged in their endless talks on wars, but now, I have utilized those pieces of information to my advantage. It was a secret that Diamond Cut Pack had held on to for generations.
I love the look of courage I see on the faces of my army, such determination is what we need for this. Diamond Cut Pack may be strong and fearless, but they’ve got no hold on me and the army that I have built for myself.
“I will be leading in this war against Diamond Cut and we will send our intention to proceed with the war to them and we will go into battle once we hear from them,” I said.
“Your preparations start now” I added. Saying this, I turned and walked out of the podium.
I have not gone very far when Rich accosted me on my decision to go to war. “Are you serious, you want to go into this battle with Diamond Cut?” Rich asked and hurried behind trying to catch up with me.
When I got to the horse, I stopped. “Yes, Rich, who is more qualified than me?” I replied as I shot him a cursory look.
He hesitated to speak for a moment until I urged him to go on. “What are your worries, Rich? Are you afraid that I might die by the hands of my own people?” I asked.
“Not in the least, Chamlar. It is just that I am not sure you wanted to do this” he replied reluctantly.
“So what is it?” I asked him.
Landon and Chamlee joined us, both having worried expressions on their faces.
“What if you met with any of them? Remember it has been a long time since you saw them. There is no saying what your reaction will be or even theirs. You are emotionally connected to all of this on a whole different level. And it may not be safe to go with us” he relayed his fears.
I chuckled. He cared too much, but he was right. “I will be going disguised. And my main reason is to fight them one on one. I know the level of their strength and cannot risk sending any other person against them. Moreover, I can’t risk what happened with the fight with the Titans” I explained.
“The fight with the Titans is way much different from this, My Chamlar. With the Titans, we were in the least prepared. But this right here is different. We have the rogues to join us and also enough time to train for it” Chamlee said.
I sighed. They all mean well but would have to look at it from my perspective.
“We can handle this, Chamlar, you don’t have to go with us” Landon begged.
“I want to do this. I want to face them on my own. There are many scores that need to be settled” I said.
“Should that be the case, I will never leave your side” Chamlee held my hand and squeezed it.
“No, Chamlee, you have to remain here. You are needed here to watch over it while I am gone. But you will come when and if the need arises” I said.
“Okay, Chamlar” he responded.
“Rich, you will be going to Diamond Cut together with Landon and some other guard. Remember you are not to be seen” I said.
“I can go along with a guard, Rich does not need to come with me” Landon replied.
“No, I will need Rich there. You will have to save two people from Diamond Cut and bring them back to me” I instructed.
RICH’S POV
“Two people” I almost exclaimed as my eyes narrowed to her.
If there is anyone to be saved from Diamond Cut Pack before the war, then it should be just Mama Ruth. Who then was she talking about? Who else does she intend to save from Diamond Cut Pack?
“Yes Rich, that is why you will be going with them to Diamond Cut Pack. You will lead them to the mansion. Be as discreet as possible, I don’t want anything going wrong” she said with a cold voice.
“Who are the two people that you want to rescue from the Mansion? Don’t tell me you are thinking of rescuing Ma Patricia” I asked. The name tastes bitter in my mouth.
She hissed and sighed bitterly. “Hmm… not Ma Patricia. I want Mama Ruth and Dawn to be brought here to me”
“Dawn” I exclaimed.
“Yes. She is my little sister and she came around before I left. I don’t want any harm to come to either of them” she murmured.
“Okay, if that is what you want, my Chamlar” I replied.
“Don’t forget that you need to be careful with this, you must not be caught” she warned.
“We will, my Chamlar” Landon replied.
“You will leave today, I want them here before noon, tomorrow,” she said.
“Okay, Chamlar” I replied.
“And one other thing…” she said.
“What is it, Chamlar?” I asked.
“In this battle, no harm should come to alpha Fred” she demanded.
“What” we all exclaimed.
“That is my decision. He should be captured immediately after he is sighted on the war front. Apart from him, no other person should be spared” she ordered.
Oh no, this is going crazy. How do we go against Diamond Cut Pack and at the same time try to preserve the life of its alpha? They were the ones that threatened us and brought this war to us and so should be shown no mercy.
“Are you sure about this, my Chamlar? You could go think it through” Chamlee asked.
“I am, Chamlee. The alpha should not be killed in this war” she replied.
“But why would you make such a decision?” he asked.
“I need him alive. He is the leader of the brother Packs. We need him as a captive” she replied.
I don’t know why, but I know Scarlet enough to know that she was not entirely truthful. But what other reason would she have to want to keep the alpha alive?
“You should leave now, Rich,” she said to me.
Chamlee carefully lifted her on the horse. He climbed in front and they rode off.
“Do you understand her?” Landon asked.
“Honestly I don’t, Landon. But hopefully, we will soon” I replied.
He sighed. “Let’s get a guard and be on our way now,” he said.
I sighed, and we hopped into our horses and rode off.
