SCARLET’S POV
I could feel the gentle and sweet breeze blow across where we were, filling our skins with Goosebumps. Apart from the breeze, every other thing stood still, even us.
That old and pleasant smile, the type that can only be felt at the old hut. It hit passed through my nostril one more time bringing with it peace and tranquility, a type that I have almost forgotten existed.
For a moment I was lost as to the happenings around us. Everything looked and felt so different. It felt as if I was back at the old hut, waiting to hear Nana’s tiny and soothing voice.
I sighed and we all shook our heads at the pleasant feeling. It has been a long time since we talked about Nana, so the feeling was not out of place even though it felt so real and unquestionable.
“Did you hear that too, did you feel it?” Landon was amazed.
“Yes,” I replied. “It’s been a while and I have almost forgotten how it feels”
“But the voice” Landon murmured.
“And that is because you called out to me,” the voice said again.
We were petrified. We all cannot be hearing the same thing unless we are all going crazy at the same time. I didn’t realize that we had been so stressed up until now.
“Nana” Chamlee called with a broad smile on his face as he stared ahead of him.
We looked in the direction he was gazing at and saw Nana walking towards us with her small stick, one step at a time.
“It cannot be, right” I murmured pointing at her.
“That is Nana any day any time” Landon muttered.
“Nana…” I exclaimed and ran off to her, followed by the men.
“It is truly you, Nana” I cried and wrapped her in my embrace.
“Someone called for me,” she said, wrapped in her contagious smile.
“I did, Nana, even though I almost did not believe it” I mumbled and wiped out the tears that had gathered in my eyes.
“And I am here now” Nana giggled.
“What do I do, Nana?” I asked as reality dawned on me.
“What is the problem, my dear child?” Nana asked quietly.
She appeared so calm and collected and I wonder if she did not notice just how worried we all appeared. If she did, then she would not be this carefree.
“You don’t have to worry too much, Scar,” she said with a defeating smile.
“But Nana, there is nothing that I know I could do. We have been here for a long time now and still nothing. How am I supposed to trust the rogues without more?” I complained.
She had her smile on the whole time as she listened to me. her gaze made me feel as if I had been worried for nothing.
I went on. “And now Violet and Elise are here, what do I even do with them?”
“But Scar, you know what to do” she replied.
I was surprised to hear her. Then why is she here if I know what to do? My already lifted spirit was cast down by her response.
“The answers are lurking somewhere inside of you, dear, a place you have refused to look even till this time,” she said with a giggle.
“A place where I have refused to look…” I mumbled.
I turned to them, and we all stared at ourselves in confusion. We did not know for how long the stare lasted until we felt the cool breeze sweep across us again. We turned immediately to look at Nana, but she was gone. We ran a few miles, looking for her, but she was nowhere in sight.
“She’s gone,” I said as I stopped to pant.
“What do we do now?” Landon asked.
“I know what to do” I replied.
*
“You are going to accept the offer of the rogues,” Chamlee said as I walked into the room.
“Yes, that is what I intend to do,” I replied.
He took me to the bed and sat beside me. “That will be for the best. It is true that the rogues are what they are, but it is just who they are. They want something different from every other people but they are humane still” he said.
“They cannot be curtailed. I was skeptical about their rebellion” I murmured.
“And that is because they desire something different. Something that should have no chains” he said. “They came to us, so they should be prepared to work under us. They want to pledge their loyalty”
“If they are going to be for the Pixies, then they must remain with the Pixies. I have zero tolerance for betrayers” I said.
“No, they will not dare to betray us. We just have to have our agreement spelled out, each part should be bound by their words” he replied.
“But then we cannot be equals… I have to ensure that” I murmured.
I will work with the rogues because there is nothing more left for me. But they should know their place. The queen of Pixolands does not harbor equals and so they must have to remain my subordinate. This is my offer to them and it will be left for them to decide.
“Mr. and Mrs. Ethan have been nothing but kind to us since we got here. They are nice and trustworthy even though they are rogues” he said.
“I would like to have them under me, Chamlee, but I know that they will put up a resistance” I replied. “And I don’t think you will be okay with it if I should decide to mate their leader for this”
He tilted my face to himself and said. “You are the Chamlar, I cannot question your decision. You can have as many of us as you want. You own me and it is not the other way round”
I got up from the bed. “If it means getting married to Lord Nathan, then I must. I cannot bear the rogues turning their backs on me after this”. I said assertively.
“And I will stand by your side through it all” he got up and moved to me.
“I know what betrayer tastes like, my Chamlee, and I don’t want to have a bite of it again”
If I am getting any power, then it must be absolute.
