SCARLET’S POV
We have spent a few days visiting the camps of the rogues disguised as commoners selling local herbs for high fever and other strange ailments since we got here.
Selling these rare local herbs allowed us into the homes of the prominent leaders of the rogues. We were allowed to personally attend to them and their ailing family members.
Also, disguised as dealers in local medicines made them less suspicious of us. They are free and open around us and wouldn’t care where we came from as long as they get their health taken care of.
So far we have not been able to get any useful information on the rogues. If I would have to trust them, then I must make sure that it doesn’t turn around against my people tomorrow. I am their queen, the Chamlar, and must do everything to protect them.
I must admit that moving around from place to place with our herbs had been a tedious task, especially for the Chamlee who had no prior experience with this side of life. It was easy for me and the rest to blend in, but it was not so for Chamlee.
In other to be fully disguised, we had to put in extra effort to make the Chamlee appear like someone on average. His look was an easy giveaway unlike ours which had a mixture of toughness.
Chamlee and I had to change our names as soon as we got here. Chamlee now goes by the name, Louis while I am been addressed as Sabrina, his wife.
Our story is that we are both married herbalists, while Landon and the rest are workers under us. We travel from village to village treating people and gathering all the money that we could. If they should see us as shrewd businessmen, they would be less attracted to our lives and that was exactly what we wanted.
“Hey, Sebrina, it is time for dinner” Mr. and Mrs. Ethan, the couple who had accepted and accommodated us when we first came announced.
They have taken it upon themselves to be nice and accommodating to us. When we entered the land, we met them at its border clinging on to their almost lifeless daughter.
They were in agony and lamented about all they have to do to make their only child well again but nothing seemed to be working. I had walked up to them and assured them that I could heal their daughter.
They were reluctant at first, but considering that they have almost no other choice, they agreed for us to treat their daughter with our locally made medicines and so they brought us to their house and after two days, their precious little daughter who was almost on the verge of giving up was hail and healthy and would not stop running around the whole place.
They were overjoyed by this and offered to pay for our services but I refused, the accommodation was enough payment already. And since then, they took it upon themselves to sing our praises in every Packs and camp of the rogues and had insisted that we remain in their home.
We accepted their offer because their house was perfect for our operation. It is at the center of the camps but somehow managed to remain secluded from the rest of the houses.
“We might have to eat late” I smiled at them and with a little frown on their faces, I watched them walk back into their house.
They are just too kind. I never would have imagined that they would go through the pain of looking for Chamlee and me here in the garden just so as to call us in for dinner.
“We might have to rush in after them” Chamlee smiled.
“I have never met people as nice as them” I replied with a smile.
Each day I expect them to get used to having us around and not treat us as some special guests, but their kindness would just not diminish. They could go to any length to see us comfortable.
“Maybe we should take a little walk, the moon is inviting” I requested as I glanced up at the lovely sky. The stars are shining bright, and the moon is at its fullest.
“Yes, My Cham…”
I immediately looked at him to stop him from completing his sentence as someone might be close by. Why was it so hard for him to keep by the new names? I sighed.
He chuckled. Now I feel that he must have done that on purpose. It makes me want to strangle him.
“Yes, Sabrina… Sabrina” he kept nodding as the name left his mouth.
“You are a handful, Louis” I laughed.
He got up and taking my hands, pulled me up.
“Come on, it is just the two of us here. And I miss your title already” he yawned and winked at me.
“You should better get used to it. We might be here a few more days” I replied.
“And it already feels like forever” he murmured.
We started to take a walk down the lonely path, my hand in his, and the feeling was heavenly. It has always been this way since I officially made him my Chamlee.
With him, I don’t see any need to prove myself. He has always supported me at every time and he believes in me even more than I believe in myself.
However, I have not consummated our union yet, I still have to figure out what I want. Taking over the throne happened too soon and I had not much time to recover from the hurt that I have faced.
“Do you have another name, like a birth name?” I asked.
I found it odd knowing him as Chamlee with no other name.
“Yes, I think I do” he replied.
“You think?” I asked.
“My mother, the late queen, she referred to me as Fernanda a few times. That should be my other name” he said with a smile.
“A lovely name, Fernanda” I murmured
I tried to think about the name. It is a lovely name and it befits his person. But I could not dwell on the name for long as the thought of so many other things ravaged my inside.
I stared intensely into the sky, my thoughts wandering far and wide.
“Are you okay, Sabrina?” he asked as he noticed my discomfort.
I was startled. “Yeah… yeah sure. I am, why not?” I stuttered.
I brought his hands over my shoulders and it felt so peaceful almost immediately. Sometimes, I could not help but wonder if he is truly human or a god. He has never for once put me under pressure or tried to make me do what I don’t want to do. Like a true Chamlee, he has been my support and backbone.
“It is fine, Sabrina,” he said with a smile.
It felt so sweet and guilty all at once. He has been nothing but true and sincere to me, but what have I given him, a person he has the least knowledge of.
But what would be his reaction when he finally got to find out about me? Is he going to be like Jake, or would he be worse off? But then, there would be nothing he would be able to do about it. I am the Chamlar and he, my Chamlee. And with that, he is doomed to remain with me no matter the circumstances.
Even this makes me feel more terrible about myself. Once again, I have gotten someone blindly hooked on me. But no, he is not like Jake, this case is completely different. On second thought, there is no difference. In both cases, I was left with no choice but to be joined by them.
The mere thought of the similarities in both cases made my skin crawl and my stomach rumble. The thought was killing me inside, and I replied slowly. “I have something to tell you”
