ALPHA FRED’S POV
I was seated on my throne when beta Tim stormed inside angrily. With a single glance at him, one could feel the heat of rage spike through his veins.
He was furious.
I tried to steady my nerves. I got the news of the return of the delegates we sent to Pixolands, and I was waiting for the report from him. I have been dying deep inside to hear the answer from the queen of the Pixies. I could not contain my anxiety. But right now, with the look on Tim, I know it is definitely not going to be a good one.
I had my doubts, I feared something like this would happen and that was why I wanted to resist the idea in the first instance.
Now news would fly around that the great Diamond Cut went to ask for help from the little queen of Pixolands. I cursed my groins under my breath. Now I wish I had never listened to Tim.
I eyed him when he bowed before me, mumbling some inchoate words, obviously cursing himself for his failure.
“You are here, Tim” I mumbled.
“Yes, alpha” he replied after some initial hesitation.
I studied him, he looked pathetic. It was obvious that he had never felt this insulted all his life, especially by a woman.
I felt a terrible anger surge rose through me, and with my anger spiking, I seethed and curled my hands into fists. I was trying really hard to keep my wolf at bay but I don’t know how long that would last.
If not for the long relationship, especially the one he shared with my father, I would have strangled him right here and now for daring to lead me into this mess that he created.
Soon, Luggard joined us, he too much have heard the news of their return. He was immediately followed by Carl and Hedrick, beta Tim’s sons. They both look as if they were prepared to tear a fearsome lion apart. They were my best armies, and their presence might be needed here.
Luggard stared at Tim, dying to hear all that he had to reveal. “What was the response, Tim?” he asked when he was tired of standing and staring.
“She refused us, she blatantly refused our proposal” he announced in fury.
The news, even though it was anticipated still sent a cold wave down my spines, it was as if a good amount of hot coals were placed right under my feet. I felt hot and cold all at the same time.
On a good day, I would not have agreed to go to the Pixies no matter how many armies were against me. But desperate times they say call for desperate measures. And now the queen or the Pixies is using this assumed weakness against me, she sees it as a right to spit right into my face. But then, she is new, and might not know much about the politics of this part of the globe. Still, that is not enough excuse to exonerate her.
“No, no she dare not,” Carl said, his mouth curved in anger.
“What does she want?” I asked blandly.
It is typical of the queen, to give a yard you must have to go a mile. I know she must have requested something outrageous. But whatever that is, I will show her that Diamond Cut is equal to the task. She must know where the real politics lie.
Tim looked at our faces, it was as though the fire in him was just ignited by my question. He clenched his fist and struggled to hold his growl.
I waited, we all waited for him. Whatever news he had to relay was no ordinary one to make him act this way. But I hope it is not enough to send my wolf running down to Pixolands. If my ego is bruised, then I will spare no one in Pixolands, not even a day-old child.
“She said she would rather choose war than stand on our side” he blurted in disgust.
I sniffed. “Joking right?”
In all of this, my appearance was calm. I fought to make sure that my emotions do not take the better part of me. I do not want to make any decision in haste, I don’t want to work under the heat of passion.
However, Tim was not impressed by my reaction, I could see from his countenance. He already feels that I am taking the whole thing likely, he thinks I am being too soft on the issue.
“Of course, my alpha, there is no way that I could have the time to throw jokes in a matter as crucial as this one. The queen of Pixolands sent the following words to us. First, she said that she is equal to none, that Pixolands does not fight alongside anyone, and finally that our offer is not alluring enough” he spelled them out with a grit of his teeth.
He gnarled, it was almost as if his wolf was about to take over. Every one of us was furious. I would have asked for what she wanted, but not at a time like this one. I would not want it to appear as if we are at her mercy.
Then I would have to let her go.
“She chose war instead” Tim added with a gnash of his teeth.
“That bitch” Hedrick cursed under his breath, his eyes already bloodshot.
Tim was almost going feral, cursing and swearing. It was obvious that the only thing that was restraining him and stopping him from taking further action was an order from my mouth. But then, I have to call him to order.
Carl and Luaggard tried to act calm and stabilize, waiting for my decision. But I could see that they were about to explode from the inside, a part of them was struggling to wreak havoc on our supposed enemy.
But no, going the way of war might not be best for the situation, considering other surrounding circumstances. So I said blandly with a wave of my hand. “Let them be, who says we need the Pixies anyway?” We have to consider other options, better ones.
Yes, their queen might possess some mythical strength. I heard she resurrected almost the whole villagers from a great plague that has long infested them and was almost about wiping them out from the surface of the earth.
In her war with the Titans that lasted for several days, not even a single one of her army was lost even though most of them were greatly wounded by poisoned arrows and swords. But that does not take away the fact that they are a Pack filled with little humans and Diamond Cut can do very well without their little assistance.
Her notorious acts linger in the heart of her prey even long after there have been accomplished. The fear it instills in their subconsciousness is unquantifiable.
However, I wonder where their queen emanated from. It is said that she is nothing like them, especially in physique and beauty. No one, just no one has been able to trace her origin. But how could they when it is almost impossible to stand before her?
“You say what?” Tim asked with a drop of his jaw. His lips were parted in shock.
