VIOLET’S POV
My eyes wandered across the dim room as I tried to pick out his figure. I know that I will meet him here, hanging out with the boys.
I walked with an air of confidence as I recalled that the last time I was here, he warned that I should never step foot into this place again in search of him. But now with the witch finally out of the way, I have no boundaries and nothing is hindering my access to him.
I continued my search for him, smiling at the glaring faces. Their lustful expressions depict willingness to kill for my middle. But then I am beautiful and I know I cannot be resisted.
At last, I found him seated with some men engaged in a game of chest. His brow furrowed as he looked up at me and then it was followed by an easy smile.
“I knew I will find you here, alpha,” I said and placed my hands on his shoulders.
He got up and gripped my hands. “Come with me” he nodded at the players and led me away.
“You should have sent someone to me, Violet,” he said as he pulled me closer to him and led me through the crowd.
“Yes, but I wanted to see you” I replied.
We stopped at the front of his private room and he pulled out the keys from his pockets. “Out there is crowded and I don’t want those men tearing you apart with their glances,” he said with a smirk, his tone depicts raw jealousy.
“You know I can handle that” I responded leaning closer to him.
We entered the room and he immediately lifted me up. “So to what do I owe your pleasant sight?”
“I have not seen you since morning and I have been all alone. I was longing for your company” I replied with a blush.
“Been out at the army camp since morning. Stopped over here to relax a little. But I will be back soon, it is almost getting dark” he explained.
I leaned on my toe and tilted his face to me. “I know but I could not wait any longer. I saw Robert and he said you were done with the meeting” I revealed.
“Then we should head back already, or do you want to remain here?” he asked, his eyes taking note of my every reaction.
I shrugged and shook my head. “Take me back to the castle” I replied lustfully.
He grinned and lifted me off the ground. Then he made his way out of the room.
*
He led me into the carriage and stepped in and carefully placed me on the seat.
The night was cold and it was obvious that there would be a heavy downpour tonight.
When I was leaving the Packhouse earlier, there was a bit of sunshine and I had not anticipated a cold. I wrapped my arms across my body so as to be a bit warm. Jake saw this, and he pulled off his coat and wrapped it around me carefully.
The effect from the coat made me start to feel warm again and I was relieved.
“Looks like it is going to be a great downpour” he murmured.
“Yes. But it was bright all day” I replied.
“It will be a cold and lovely night” he whispered into my ears, and I blushed.
“Can we stop over at Deluxe Delight?” I requested.
He shifted a little and looked outside the curtails.
“Jake, I would like a night out between us two” I requested calmly.
“Somewhere else, please” he finally looked at me.
“It’s been months, Jake, and it should be officially handed over to me,” I said.
“It’s the luna’s” he replied and tried to ease his discomfort by adjusting on the seat.
“I am the luna” I murmured and looked out the window. “How long do I have to wait?” I asked.
“I can’t just marry you, I will have to get the luna here first. What kind of an alpha will I be if I should marry another without knowing where the first is?” he replied with an air of guilt.
“She left on her accord” I turned to him and adjusted a little on my seat. “No one made her do that. I should not be made to suffer because of her and moreover, you need a luna by your side, the Pack needs a luna” my eyes followed his gaze.
His face has turned red, maybe from the cold or from the topic. He has been ignoring this discussion since Scarlet left and I have been left on a roller coaster all to myself but now it is about to end.
“I will have to do it right,” he said blandly, his teeth clenched against his lower lips.
“Marry me and make it right,” I requested.
“I will marry you, Violet” he replied.
“Then waste no more time” I insisted.
His gaze narrowed a little. “I will have to find Scarlet first,” he said.
My breath hitched and my lips parted in surprise. I tucked my hands beneath the coat and pulled at my fingers angrily as I fought to tears that had gathered waiting to be freed.
“I… I… I” I stammered.
I held my breath and counted from one to three. I am not going to give up this fight. Jake is mine and Scarlet got no hold on him.
I should have finished her when I had the opportunity to. And right now, it hurts to think that even in death, she might still have a hold on him. It hurts so badly.
Strong anger surged through me. “Find her” I murmured and fought to prevent myself from gritting my teeth.
He stared at me unbothered. His eyes remained distant and stormy, not even a flicker of anything sparked on his features. “I am sorry I am putting you through this, Violet” he murmured indifferently.
Sorry? did he just say that he is sorry just like that? A heat of rage spiked through my veins as I continued to stare at him. He could forget about her in a swift second if he so much desires to, but then I have never meant much to him.
“You have to believe me,” he said and leaned to take my hand.
I pulled away and placed my hands back into the coat. “She was sick… she could be dead” I murmured.
A deadly frown appeared on his face and disappeared almost immediately. He tried to comport himself and stared over my head. “No she is not” he murmured. It almost sounded like a defense.
“It’s been months, Jake, and no words. I hate to admit it but she is my friend and I would want to see her one day. But then we have to face reality. Yes, she lied to us all but we have long forgiven her. You did not see her before she left, Jake, she was almost lifeless. I doubt she would go an extra day” I said.
He was furious and could not hold it in any longer. I could hear his bone begin to crack and I thought he was about to shift. The carriage jerked and stumbled for a while and finally came to a halt.
For a moment, I was afraid that something bad was about to happen. But then he was normal again, and it was as if nothing happened. He hit on the body of the carriage and it started moving again.
“She is not dead,” he said in an unusually calm manner.
“She is not in her Pack or any other place,” I responded.
“Right now, I have the Dark Age Pack to deal with. Once that is settled, I will go and find her.
I wanted to talk again and put up a strong protest, but he gave me a frightful look and I could not bring myself to say another word. I sighed and looked out of the window for the rest of the trip.
