“You must have to leave here,” Nana said as she walked into our midst. She was just coming back from her evening walk.
We were all seated in front of the house discussing when she arrived and we were statled because we did not expect to hear such words from her.
“Leave…, why, to where?” I asked, stunned.
Yes, she has been kind to me and I am completely healed now but I had not thought that she wanted us out of her house.
We have been getting along just fine and she would not stop hammering on how happy she was now that she has young people living with her. So what has gone wrong, why does she want to drive us away when we have already converted here to our new home? A place with no hatred, bitterness, or back-biting.
She remained where she was standing and looked down at me. “You are of no use here, Scar. You have a great power inside of you and the world needs it” she said.
Hearing this, I became instantly relaxed. For a moment, I thought she was chasing us out. “The world has never needed me, Nana. It is only with you that I feel like a human for once in my life” I countered.
“Not anymore, Scar. You will go to a land far away from here. At the great land beyond, they call out for you” she said.
“Nana, we know what we have been through. My luna is right, we are fine here” Lara replied.
“You should please not think of getting us out of here, we are okay just the way we are, with you” Landon pleaded.
“My time is almost over, my days are almost gone. What does an old lady have to offer? There is so much to be explored by your youthful minds, get up and take charge of your life” Nana replied.
I kept quiet and thought about what Nana had said and I must admit that she was right. No matter how annoyed we are with the world, we cannot live away from it forever. One day, we must brace up and face it. But that day should not be now.
As if Nana had read my mind, she said. “The Clock is ticking, Scar and it awaits for you to use what you have. A delay can send another taking your print” she said.
I got up, went to her, and led her into a seat. “But where do we go, Nana. There is no love with my husband and my parents will not harbor me for an extra second in the mansion? You are the only one that has completely accepted me for who I am” I asked.
“You have a pure heart, Scar. And not too many appreciates it. The legend would be fulfilled through you and whatever is your decision, it shall not be subject to validation” Nana replied.
I don’t know what Nana was talking about, but I was tense. All I want right now is to live a quiet life devoid of any form of complications. I looked at the faces of my friends, they all placed their fate in my hands, whatever I decide they will obey and I have to decide right for us all.
“What do we do, Nana?” I finally left the decision to the old woman. I trust she will use her wisdom to guide us on the right path.
She giggled and tapped her stick on the ground continuously. “You are a wise one, Scar. You know, many years ago, on that same path, three heads found me but left me to fate. I did not lay a curse to their future, but the moon goddess did. Today, bear this in mind, Scar, you will be the head over those three” she suddenly stopped.
I immediately knelt in front of her in fear of what her parable might entail. “Please, Nana, you speak in great words, words that my little mind cannot comprehend. Please do well to explain what you mean to me, I will like to know what my future entails” I begged.
“Stand, Scar” she commanded with a frown, holding my hand and lifting me. “Today would be the last you knee to anyone”
I stood up and remained before her. She gave Rich a sigh, and he immediately stood up and came and bent down behind me for me to sit on him. I was worried and reluctant to go on but Nana made me to.
After I was seated, she continued. “You should learn your place, Scar, and never to be kept standing”
“I… I can go seat on a chair” I stuttered.
She chuckled. “There must always be a chair for you wherever you go. All must obey your dictates”
I heaved and relaxed properly on Rich’s back.
“There is a land far off, Scar, but not too far. In it lie the inhabitants of the Pixies. Go there, they are in need of a queen as a great plague has infested their land with no one to guide them. With the Amulet, you can get all you desire” she said.
“Me, queen of the Pixies?” I murmured, pointing at myself.
Okay, I can believe everything the old woman says but not to the extent of ruling over the Pixies. They can’t trust outsiders, they are very suspicious of others no matter how much you try to prove yourself to them. I don’t intend to doubt the old woman, but this is beginning to sound ridiculous.
“You can rule over even the moon, Scar,” she said in a final tone.
I have so much to ask, there was so much I need to object to but I knew the discussion was over so I requested. “But you will have to come with me”
“I remain here, Scar,” she replied with an air of finality.
“I will… we will go nowhere without you. I cannot let you stay here by yourself” I insisted.
She heaved and said. “This is my home, Scar”
“But I will be needing you in this. How am I to know what to do when you are not there?” I pleaded.
“I will be there when you need me, Scar” she replied.
“But then it will never be the same” I sighed.
“You leave tomorrow by dawn” she announced as she stood up and made to go in.
I stood up and followed her and I yelled. “Just what more surprises do you have?”
She laughed so loud in her shaky voice and shaking her head, she walked in.
“Now how do we even find our way there?” I murmured to myself.
I turned to the others. “So get ready, we are going to Pixolands, some Pixies need us” I announced.
“Yes, luna” they all chorused.
“Take this, Scar” Nana appeared beside me with a piece of cloth. I collected it from her and was staring at it in confusion. “It belongs to a Pixie” she added and went back inside.
I continued to stare at the cloth in bewilderment until Lara walked up to me and said. “I think you might have to use the cloth and take us to Pixolands. If that cloth has come from a Pixie, then it should be able to take you there”
I almost gasped. But how did she even know of my unusual power? This old woman is truly something mystical and beyond the ordinary. But then, should I be sniffing a cloth all through our journey?
At the thought of this, a strong smell hit my nose. It was the cloth and deep inside of me, I was already seeing where the smell is leading me to and even Stake has reached the Pixies so getting there will not be a problem. Obviously, I have greatly underrated the strength of my newfound power.
I looked at them. “I know this is not the journey we all envisaged, in fact, what exactly did we envisage? Nevertheless, we would go on tomorrow and hopefully, it will be for the best” I said.
Rich walked up to me and said. “We believe in you, luna and wherever you go, there we shall be”
I placed my hand on his shoulder, I was grateful for their support.
I looked at the cloth in my hand, I will not need it anymore as I already know my way. Just as I was thinking of what to do with it, Nana appeared again before me and stretched her hand to collect the cloth.
I handed the cloth to her slowly. How does she even do that, turning up without me noticing?
