LARA’S POV
“I still maintain that it is not right” I insisted.
I know she wanted to be free, I know all she wanted was to have a harmless friendship with her, but then one cannot be friends with an enemy. Sincerely what I want to do is not sit back and watch whatever it was that would unfold as a result of this unnatural union, but then she is my friend and I cannot fold my hands and watch her walk majestically into the lion’s den.
“Why can’t you admit it, Lara? Accept that you have been hallucinating. So far, you have got nothing against her, absolutely nothing” she replied.
“See I don’t want to have anything against her, believe me, I don’t. But it is better safe than sorry. Can’t you see it? Even the alpha avoids her. He avoids her like a plague” I said.
“But that is exactly what he should do. She is his ex and I would definitely get uncomfortable and jealous if I should see them together” she replied.
“But then, Scarlet, that is because he knows exactly who she is. Her kinds are better kept at a distance” I said.
“So what do you have me do, Lara?” she asked.
I inhaled. It is true that Violet had done nothing to make me want her out. But it is even more true that she is capable of doing even the unthinkable. Sincerely I would have been more of peace if Violet is acting as the enemy. At least in such a case, we would be sure of where to fight her from. But in a situation like this one where she is acting all nice and cool, she had definitely got us to a fixed spot, a spot where she wants us to be.
As these thoughts clouded my mind, I did not give any response to Scarlet’s question.
“You see, you have nothing to say. I know how you feel and I would be lying if I say that I haven’t felt the same way too. But we have to see beyond the past and look towards the future. We have to forge ahead” she said.
“I am not saying that you should throw her away, my luna,” I said.
“Then what are you saying, Lara, make me understand you” she pleaded.
“I would have been at peace if she is the villain here, the known villain. And now it hurt me to know that none of us is aware of what she might be up to” I said.
“And that is because she is up to nothing. She has nothing under her sleeve. We are only judging her from her past, Lara, please understand this fact” she replied.
“But then don’t be too open with her. She must not know about your personal life, especially about your dealings with your husband, the alpha” I appealed.
I felt so nauseous when Scarlet revealed to me her discussion with Violet. She had painted the story in such a way that one would agree that Violet was sincerely concerned for her. I know Violet and there is no way she would give a damn about another, especially one that she felt had taken over her most prized possession.
“But we have already agreed that she is not acting so what harm is there in letting a friend in on one or two personal issues? Moreover, her advice to me was great” she replied.
“Just promise me you will not do that next time. I am here for you and would never get tired of listening to you. And I promise to give you the right advice for whatever issue that you have” I said.
She giggled. “Do I perceive a trace of jealousy?” she asked.
SCARLET’S POV
“Then what are you saying, Lara, make me understand you” I pleaded.
I hate that I am going over this issue about Violet over again with Lara. Why is it so difficult for her to accept Violet?
Is she even listening to the advice that she is giving to me? Because if she is, then she will come to realize that it is not pointing in any particular direction. On one hand, is she asking me to be wary of Violet, and on another is she admitting that she holds nothing against her.
I am the luna of this Pack, and I must accept all my subjects and learn to forgive their excesses. And it is only better for Lara to understand this.

Yes, she is right. If Violet should show up as the enemy, we would know how to handle her. But now she has come as a friend and had also done all she could to prove herself as one then we have no other option but to accept her as such.

“But then don’t be too open with her. She must not know about your personal life, especially about your dealings with your husband, the alpha” she appealed.
I admit that I revealed so much to Violet. But that was because she showed so much concern and I needed someone to talk to. She had listened to me and felt every bit of my joy and worry.
Moreover, since she became close to me, she has not attempted to contact the alpha for whatever reason. If she had come with an interior motive, then she would have tried to find her way to the alpha.
“But we have already agreed that she is not acting so what harm is there in letting a friend in on one or two personal issues? Moreover, her advice to me was great” I replied.
“Just promise me you will not do that next time. I am here for you and would never get tired of listening to you. And I promise to give you the right advice for whatever issue that you have” she said.
“Do I perceive a trace of jealousy?” I asked and started to blush.
I should have known all along that Lara is feeling unsafe before Violet, she felt Violet is here to steal me away from her.
I am happy to know that she cares this much for our friendship. And she should know that no one would ever be able to come in between us.
“Come on, Lara, there is no need to be scared. No one will ever be able to come in between us. We have come a long way and our friendship has not quavered even in the face of greater challenges” I said as she glared at me with her eyes wide open.
“You are unbelievable, Lara, you will dismiss all these as mere jealousy?” she asked.
“Stop it, Lara, Violet can never be compared to you no matter how hard she tries” I assured her.
“God, I have finally given up on my friend” she shook her head.
“Okay, I admit that I have not been there for you as I should, so I am owing you. So tell me, where should I take you to? You can ask for a weekend getaway if you so desire” I asked.
“If you are going to assure me that it will just be between you, Rich, and I, I might consider your offer” she replied.
I chuckled. “Yes there will be no one else, that is a promise to you”
“Okay, then give me some time to think about it” she requested.
“You have all the time for that, dear” I replied.
Now my friend is back and I am so happy.
