SCARLET’S POV
We were in the garden, I and Ray.
Ray has become so fond of me these days and that is all thanks to my trainer, Rich, and my dear friend, Lara. They both taught me all I should do to be able to get him and gratefully, it worked like magic.
He always wants to take me with him where ever he went and would show me off as his friend. Yes, you heard me right, just a friend.
My friends have asked me not to worry that with time, he would come to realize just how much he loves me, and then he will propose to me and make me his. And I cannot wait for such time to come.
“You know what darling?” he asked.
“What?” I responded.
“You are becoming more beautiful by the day and it makes me wonder if I have known you before now,” he said.
I blushed and tried to hide my face from him.
“No, you don’t have to be shy, you should be free whenever you are with me,” he said.
He stood up, walked right to my front, and held my hands. I stood up and he embraced me.
He was so warm and I felt the embrace would go on like this forever.
He whispered into my ears. “Don’t be shy whenever you are with me, darling, I hate that”
I remained quiet and tried to hide my face but he tilted my chin up to look into his eyes, then he leaned to my face and smiled. “Let’s lie down on the floor. I want your head relaxing on my chest while I run my hands through your lovely hair” he commanded.
I turned my head slowly to look into his hazel-dazzling eyes and then I followed him like an obedient little girl hoping for daddy’s protection.
I love how he takes control of things when we are together. This was a different Ray than the friend that I have always known.
He was always there to protect me and now, no one in my family treats me like trash anymore. They have all suddenly become nice, waiting for the day that he would formally declare his intention towards me.
He lied on the floor and I lied placing my head on his chest while he used his hands to run through my hair.
I love the way that he cherishes every part of my body. He does not care what people say or think but was ready to be with me no matter the circumstances.
I was beginning to love him too, even more than I ever did. He is the air that I breathe and I don’t think I can ever spend a single day away from him. Now I hope that he feels the same way too.
“I have something very important to say to you, Scarlet, it is my confession” he announced.
I held my breath. The moment that I have been waiting for is finally here and I never knew that it was going to be this soon. He was finally going to profess his love for me and I can’t wait to scream yes in reply.
“Are you listening?” he asked.
“Yes…yes I am” I stammered.
“But before I do that, I would like to know how far you have gone with your training” he inquired.
I had always known that my weary strength will be a problem between us someday but I never imagined that it will be this soon. I wonder if he is going to predicate his proposal on my ability to learn how to defend myself?
“Baby” he called.
“Yes, the training. It is coming off fine. Rich and Lara both agreed that I have learnt the basics. Rich is of the opinion that my strength is growing but he could not tell how long it would take for me to be able to get into a real fight. But above all, they said that the development is awesome” I replied. “And you know what?” I asked.
“What, dear?” he asked.
“It is all thanks to you. The sessions that I had with you helped me a great deal and that was how I was able to grasp all of Rich’s teachings” I replied.
“Oh, that is lovely. I am so happy to see just how far you have gone” he said.
I waited to hear what announcement he had to make but he did not say anything further. I wanted to ask him but decided not to. Maybe he had a change of mind after hearing that I cannot still stand up against a fellow werewolf.
But I cannot blame him, what alpha would want a weak luna to rule with him.
“You know what?” he finally spoke.
“I am listening, Ray” I responded.
“I am cursed,” he said.
I rose up and looked at him in shock. “Cursed, how? Why would you say such about yourself? I asked.
“Yes, I am. I am cursed never to find my mate” he said.
I exhaled and lied back on his chest.
“That is not a curse, dear, it is just a rare condition,” I said.
“That is what everyone believes. I and the two alphas were cursed never to find our mates” he replied.
“Why?” I exclaimed. “Who dares to curse someone as kindhearted as you are?” I asked.
He inhaled and remained quiet for a while with his hand still going through my hair. I did not say anything either but waited for him.
“We were in the wrong, we refused to give an old woman help when she needed it which led to her laying a curse on the three of us” he revealed.
“I see” I murmured. “That is really sad”
“But we would pull through, I know that for sure,” I said.
I was not sure what to say to him at this point so I held on to his left hand and rubbed it instead.
“Growing up, I have always dreamt of the day that I will set an eye on my mate. I dreamt of having an opportunity of treating her right and give her the life that she deserves. I was going to give her the world and she was never going to lack anything” he said.
“But you are still going to meet her someday, right?” I asked.
“Would I?” he chuckled. “I am at the mercy of any lady now. But with you it is different. You have the kindest of hearts and I know that with time, even your weakness will become your strength” he said.
“Yeah” I mumbled.
“I like so much, darling and I hope that this thing that we share will one day be blessed by the moon goddess,” he said.
“I love you” I murmured.
“You do?” he asked.
“Yes, I have always loved you as a brother” I replied.
I regretted the words as soon as they left my mouth. What was I thinking talking about my feelings for him in such a way? I love him as a lover and I wanted to scream it out so loud for the whole world to hear me.
“I know that, dear.” he said.
“I want you” I finally admitted.
He giggled. “I know you how much you want me, Scarlet, and I want you too. We need to give this time and when it is all right, I will make this right”
“And I love you, Ray,” I said.
“See, Scarlet, what if we do some training right now? I want to see how far you have gone” he suggested.
“Wow, that would be great” I responded.
