Bryan tried to keep his face serious after Kira had asked him if he was also laughing at her, but the corners of his mouth twitched uncontrollably and his cheeks flushed with the effort of him trying so hard not to laugh.
The laughter dancing in his eyes despite his attempt to be serious was very obvious.
Kira playfully smacked his shoulder and detached herself from him. “I will walk myself, thank you very much,” she said as she started making her way to the stairs.
Bryan, barely holding back his laughter, called after her as he followed her, “Sorry, my love! I didn’t mean to laugh, really!”
“Oh, stop it,” Kira said to him, not turning back to look at him as she kept walking.
“You are still laughing, and it’s so obvious,” she stated as she took a few shaky steps toward the stairs. Her leg wobbled dangerously, and she almost fell, but she caught herself just in time.
“Whoa, that was close,” she said to herself, releasing a relieved breath.
As she steadied herself and wanted to start walking again, she heard Bryan snicker softly.
Kira turned back, and shot him a glare. “Really?” she mouthed.
Then she turned and faced her front, “so much for having a mate!”
“Babyyy, I’m sorry, okay I am really sorry, okay?” Bryan called out to her, his voice mixed with affection and laughter. “I didn’t mean to laugh, you just-” he chuckled, then took a deep breath before clearing his throat to continue what he was saying, “You just keep falling and all, I’m sorry.”
Kira ignored him and kept going up the steps. But before she could get far, Bryan caught up with her and swiftly lifted her into his arms in a bridal carry.
“Alright, you win,” he said with a grin and pecked her lips, then her nose.
“Well, take me to our room. I’m exhausted,” She said in a playful ordering tone, taking the situation to an advantage to get back at him. “Hurry up!”
“Of course, my lady!” Bryan chuckled and played along, her arms wrapped around his neck as he carried her to their room.
Getting to the room, he set her down and she was able to go take a cold shower to cool down. When she was done with the shower, Kira came out of the bathroom to find Bryan on the bed, reading a book.
“Hi,” she said to him, smiling.
Bryan looked up from his book and smiled back, “Hi. Are you feeling better?”
“Mhm!” She nodded and went to the wardrobe to pick up what to wear.
She ended up settling for Bryan’s shirt. She put it on, with her sweatpants, then joined him on the bed.
“So… what are you reading?” Kira asked him curiously.
“It’s called The Sigma Protocol by Robert Ludlum,” Bryan stated, showing her the book. “Have you read it yet?”
“No, I haven’t, although the name sounds interesting and unique, like one would want to know more about it.”
“True!” Bryan agreed with her and ruffled her hair.
“What is it about?” Kira asked, snuggling closer and wrapping her arm around his waist.
“Well…” Bryan started, wrapping his arm around her and pulling her deeper into the snuggle. “It is a suspenseful thriller with romance, action and so on. It’s about a man who killed someone in self-defense and a female government agent. In a way, their fates collide. I haven’t gone far, but it is an interesting read.”
“Sounds very intriguing. Maybe if you are done, then I will read it too.” Kira suggested, her eyes closing as she got more comfortable and sleepy.
“Of course,” Bryan agreed and pecked her forehead.
When she stopped talking, and it was just the sound of her soft breathing, Bryan figured she had slept off and went back to reading his book, letting her rest.
Hours later, Kira stirred, slowly waking from her deep slumber. She blinked, taking a moment to adjust to the surroundings.
She was still wrapped in Bryan’s arms and looked up at him, his eyes closed so she thought he was asleep but as she tried to get up, his eyes gently fluttered open.
“How was your rest?” he asked, his voice thick and calm.
“It was nice, I really needed it,” she murmured and smiled sleepily.
Then she frowned, her brows knitting together. “What time is it?”
Bryan glanced at the clock in the room. “It’s nine at night.”
Kira’s eyes widened in shock, and she immediately sat up on the bed. “NINE? Our date!” she exclaimed, her face now buried in her hands as she felt very guilty. “I’m so sorry.”
Bryan chuckled softly, trying to soothe her. “Hey, it’s okay. We can still have a date, just not today.”
“But we already decided,” She signed. “We have too, my dress is already prepared and everything.”
“Okay, I have a plan,” Bryan stated, knowing that she would most likely beat herself up if the date does not happen.
“What is it? Tell me,” Kira asked quickly, wanting to know. She had really been looking forward to this with Bryan.
“It’s a surprise,” He winked at her and got up from the bed, going to the wardrobe.
“A surprise?” Kira thought as she watched him get dressed.
Bryan put on a fitted black turtleneck, tailored black pants and his dark leather jacket. His hair was already arranged.
“What are you doing?” Kira asked as she also got down from the bed.
“Getting dressed for our date.” Bryan answered while putting on his black boots.
“I’m I not part of the date? What’s going on?” Kira laughed softly, getting confused.
“Of course you are, just get dressed, take your time and meet me downstairs,” he said to her and kissed her softly on the lips before turning to leave.
“Oh, I almost forgot.” He stopped in his tracks and then turned back. “Put on something comfortable, a dress, and I think sneakers.”
Then he left.
“He looks excited, no matter how much he tries to hold it in. I can just tell,” Kira muttered to herself, a huge smile spreading on her face.
“Okayy,” she clasped her hands together, walking to the wardrobe. “What should I wear?”
