Chapter 68

Book:Alpha Arthur, She is mine Published:2024-10-27

Nova/Elara;
I clutch onto my skirt as I struggle to watch the tears of my mother flowing down her cheeks. I want to scream out the words; your precious Nova is here with you, Mum!… But I can’t
I want to spread my arms wide open in the air and give Mother a good hug. I want to hold her tightly and not let go of her for hours. I’ve missed my Mother. My best friend. My everything. I know how hurt she is right now, and I wish I could just tell her that I’m right in front of her.
My memory can’t recall what actually happened on the day of my incident, or how I ended up in the woods. I didn’t even know that I did, if not the fact Father mentioned it. What was it that actually happened to me when I left David’s home?
Was I sleeping while driving? How did everything play out so fast that I couldn’t recall anything? Letting out a soft breath…… This is more complicated than I expected it to be. How do I get to review my true identity to my parents? Just how?
“Luna,” Alpha Arthur holds Mother’s hands and helps her up to her feet. “I don’t know what happened to your daughter, but I will do my best to make sure I find out what’s going on.”
“Thank you so much, Alpha Arthur,” mother weeps even more, and my heart breaks into a thousand pieces.
Father stands up from his position, his hands grasping mothers arms. He pulls her to himself, “I will be back,” Father announces and leads mother inside the room.
“That’s the way the Maxwell household has been ever since Nova’s incident. I wish I could be of help. I feel so valuable about everything,” Uncle Goddard, my father’s Beta, comments.
I understand his words and the emotions that are running through him. Uncle Goddard is like a second father to me, and I love him so much. Just like Father, Uncle Goddard also has two pups. His daughter, who is the same age as me. The son, same age as my elder brother, Kingsley.
Basically, I’ve never set my eyes on his son. I only know about his age because Uncle Goddard always brags about him. I’d only met with Aunt Elizabeth, Uncle Goddard’s wife, and Josephine, their daughter.
Josephine and I get along so well. We can even pass for best friends, or sisters. But our reason why we didn’t turn out to be best friends was the distance. Josephine, and her brother stay with their mother in her pack. I heard they prefer the pack over ours because most of their relatives also live there.
But on the few occasions that I’ve set my eyes on Josephine, we always get along. I had even agreed to visit her before my incident happened. Uncle Goddard can feel my parents’ pains because he also has pups and he knows how painful it will be, to lose any.
“Beta Goddard,” Alpha Arthur calls out. “Can I take a look at the scene of the incident?”
How did he know what to ask at the right time? I was already dying within me to go to the scene where my incident happened. Maybe I can find something. Something that will be so helpful for me.
I need to know and understand what happened to me before I can be able to get a solution to the problem.
“You will eventually go to the scene, but right now, you and your mate need to have a rest. You just arrived my pack,” Father utters as he returns to the living room. “I will show you to a room. You can use it for the time being.”
“Don’t worry about it, Alpha Maxwell. I have my hotel ready for us, and I would prefer to stop around whenever. How is Luna feeling right now?” Alpha Arthur responds to Father.
“Are you turning down my hospitality?” Father moves closer to us. “Your father will never do that, Alpha Arthur. You know how he loves my home and enjoys spending his time in my home. So why are you refusing my request? Or is it,” Father gazes right at me, “Your mate who prefers to be in a hotel for some female reasons?” Father’s lips twist to the sides, and I see the nasty smile that plays on his face.
“We will stay back in the mansion, Fath… I mean, Alpha Maxwell,” I speak without thinking about it.
At this point, my mind is fighting a battle of unrest, and I can’t think before making a decision.
Father snaps his fingers at Alpha Arthur’s face, “Your mate has agreed to it. That settles everything. I will show you two to a room. But first,” he pulls his lips closer to Alpha Arthur’s ear and whispers some words.
Alpha Arthur nods his head, and a great smile plasters on Father’s face. What are they discussing?
“That settles it then. This way,” Father leads the way to the huge visitor room. Uncle Goddard, Alpha Arthur and I, follow behind Father.
We enter the room, and I can’t help but scan my eyes around the room. I hardly visit this part of the house, and it’s a little surprising to me how huge and arranged the room is. More spacious than mine.
Seems the room is designed basically for Alphas.
“Welcome once again Alpha Arthur to my home. You and your mate can have a rest. When the meal is ready, I will have a servant inform you about it,” Father announces. Tapping on Uncle Goddard’s shoulder, “Let’s leave the young people to have a rest,” he walks away. Uncle Goddard follows behind him, and they close the door.
“Why did you say yes to this, Nova?” Alpha Arthur turns toward me.
“I don’t know. I just want to be around my family. Spend time with them. I’ve missed them so much.”
“Nova,” he scratches his brow with his index finger. “You know we came here for something important. I don’t have a problem staying here in your father’s house. On the other hand, I also don’t want you to get so emotional, and mess things up.”
“I won’t, Alpha Arthur. I truly want this to work out. What should we even do right now? How do we start on this whole thing?” Brushing my hands together.
“First, Nova. We need to locate the scene. You have to remember what happened that day,” he grasps my arms. “I know it won’t be easy on you, but you have to find a way. I wish there was a way you can connect to your wolf.”
“I can’t reach out to her because I don’t know where she is.”
“I understand. We will take things slow. I’m not pressuring you. Come here,” Alpha Arthur pulls me closer, my body resting against his chest.
He breaks off the hug. “I will order Philip to get us some clothes,” Alpha Arthur brings out his phone from his pocket, dialing Phillip’s contact.
“Do I need new clothes? I have clothes in my room.”
“It’s not your room for now. Don’t forget you are Elara right now and not Nova,” he reminds me for the one hundred time.
Alpha Arthur puts the call through to Phillip, and gives him the instructions. Then he ends the call and stares right at me, “You have to stop crying in front of your parents. Stop complicating things for us.”
I nod my head in agreement. I wish my heart and eyes could also say yes to this.
We hear a knock on the door and Alpha Arthur orders the person to come in. A maid enters. It was my personal maid, Lisa. My heart jumps in excitement as I set my eyes on her. I felt like giving her a hug but I knew I couldn’t.
“Alpha, dinner is ready,” her eyes are solely fixed on me.
“Alright. We join the table soon,” Alpha Arthur replies and Lisa walks away.
Alpha Arthur locks his fingers with mine and leads us to the living room. We went to the dinner table to join Father, Mother and Uncle Goddard. Alpha Arthur sits opposite Father, and I take my seat beside him.
Father says few words of prayers to the Goddess before we all dive into the food right in front of us. Saying prayers before any meal is like our family tradition.
Father, Alpha Arthur, and Uncle Goddard, go into a deep conversation about the Lycans. Mother and I can’t help but laugh at how the men keep analyzing the Lycans.
The door to the living room opens and I see Kingsley walk in. Instantly, I make to shoot up right from my seats in excitement but I feel Alpha Arthur’s hand pull me back, causing me to pin my butt back in my seat.
Once again, he has called me to order.
My eyes fixed on Kingsley who had just walked in, but I immediately also saw David step into the living room. A great fear suddenly wash over me, and I clutch onto my skirt. My heart raced faster in fear at the sight of him.
Why am I feeling this way toward David? What is it about him that I don’t remember because the fear within me feels so strange?
Something is definitely wrong.
