Chapter 383: Owing a Favor

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2024-10-27

Nelson didn’t sign the contract himself; he sent the apparent leader of the foreign company.
Callie faced Shamar’s team, seeing their dejection made her feel bad too. She forced a smile to comfort them, “It’s okay, we’ll have another chance in the future.”
As for Shamar, he hadn’t shown up for days. Now that the outcome was final, he must be feeling terrible too.
Forget it.
“Brutal, just brutal,” Regan said while talking to Callie on the phone, watching the overwhelming reports online.
The rumors were harsh. Some mocked that it was just a small company and that being acquired wasn’t a big deal.
There was also a photo of Callie leaving under protection, but it didn’t cause much of a stir because no one recognized her. Nelson’s secretary’s office quickly managed the public relations.
Callie had a splitting headache and didn’t want to say a word.
Regan, enjoying the drama, chuckled and asked, “Did you cheat or something? Is that why Nelson is acting like this?”
Callie finally showed some emotion, “Me cheat? You must have missed all his scandals.”
“Oh, right, that’s true.”
Callie wanted to hang up the phone.
Sensing her mood, Regan stopped teasing, “Don’t worry. When I get the real power of the Ellison family one day, I’ll help you turn things around.”
She sounded so confident that Callie couldn’t help but laugh, not wanting to discourage her. “Alright, I’ll wait for you to save me.”
“But seriously, how strong is the Ellison family?”
“So you know who the enemy is but not their strength?” Regan explained that after marrying Isaac, her family’s debts were immediately paid off. The Ellison family was wealthy and powerful. “The most valuable ports in Ylosea and prime real estate are owned by the Ellison family.”
Callie understood. Last time Nelson mentioned the Oconnor family controlled seven parts land and three parts water; it seemed the Ellison family controlled most of the water.
There were things Regan didn’t say, fearing Callie would get upset.
She didn’t understand business but knew if Callie exposed her identity as Mrs. Oconnor to the media, it would create a binding effect. Admitting her identity would also give Nelson a response. Regardless, Jaquan would have a chance to breathe and might even defeat the hostile takeover.
But she didn’t do it. Even though Nelson hinted at it, he never received any news about their marriage.
Callie seemed determined not to be associated with him publicly.
Callie didn’t contact Jaquan; he texted her first: Don’t contact me for now; I’ll handle it.
He didn’t mention the one billion…
She noted it down harshly; she owed not just money but a huge favor.
She didn’t return to Paucaster Villa Complex.
Even if she did go back, it wouldn’t be now. Even in failure, she wouldn’t let Nelson laugh at her.
Club Paradise was as lively as ever. No matter what happened outside, once inside, you didn’t have to think about anything except indulgence.
Drink after drink entered her stomach. Callie seemed to feel nothing, desperately needing a drunken stupor.
This scene attracted Bridger.
He frowned, “What’s going on? Did Nelson bully you?”
Callie slammed down her glass heavily and pointed her finger as if to say something but remained silent in the end.
Bridger guessed it was all curses.
He couldn’t persuade her and wondered if he should call Nelson.
