Callie didn’t understand, he just said she would know once she arrived.
The restaurant was near the CBD.
Jaquan wore a gray suit, and his good looks always drew attention. In contrast to his healthy complexion, Callie looked particularly pale. After ordering, he pointed at her face, “You look terrible, you need some rest.”
Callie was indeed exhausted, but she knew she was much calmer now than before. She couldn’t afford to rest.
“I don’t have time to rest,” she said, propping her head with one hand.
Her clothes had shifted slightly, revealing bruises on her neck that Jaquan noticed immediately. His eyes narrowed, “Did he hit you?”
Callie instinctively covered her neck and stammered, “No…”
Even without much experience in relationships, Jaquan could guess what had happened. When the food arrived, he served her soup himself. Callie murmured a “thank you.”
“Why did you ask me out?” Actually, she shouldn’t be meeting him to avoid angering Nelson, but things had already come to this point. Callie decided to give up.
“You’ll know soon enough,” Jaquan said with a smile.
At that moment, a sweet female voice called out, “Jaquan.”
Callie instinctively looked over and saw a woman standing not far away. Even from a distance, she could see the woman’s flawless skin and delicate features. Her chestnut hair flowed down, and she wore flat shoes, looking both outstanding and quiet.
Before Callie could guess who she was, she caught sight of the man beside her…
A tall figure with a cold face and an imposing aura-Nelson.
Callie tightly gripped her bowl, trying to stop herself from shaking.
Though they were not far apart, it felt like they were separated by mountains and rivers.
Jaquan said, “Karlie, come here.”
The woman named Karlie exchanged a glance with the man beside her before slowly walking over. In the next second, Jaquan pulled her onto his lap with a swift motion.
“What brings you here?”
Callie stared deeply at the man still standing there. She felt her breath slow down as he seemed to smirk slightly before walking further into the restaurant.
Karlie’s voice was very gentle as she looked at Callie, “Who is this?”
“A friend I ran into, so we decided to have a meal together. What brings you here today?” Jaquan’s tone was equally gentle as he stroked her hair, skillfully deflecting the question back to her.
Callie nodded slightly in acknowledgment and then lowered her head to drink her soup. In her current disheveled state, she shouldn’t be seen as a threat.
Karlie wrapped her arms around Jaquan’s neck and softly said, “I came to find you. On the way, I ran into Mr. Oconnor. It’s been a long time since we last met, so we decided to have a meal together.”
She seemed as delicate as tofu, ready to break at the slightest touch.
She was indeed pleasing to the eye.
Jaquan pinched her waist lightly and squinted his eyes, “Then go ahead. Call me when you’re done eating, and I’ll take you home.”
Karlie obediently nodded and kissed him on the cheek. Just as she was about to leave, he grabbed her and gave her a deep kiss.
Blushing, she pushed him away shyly and bowed slightly to Callie before quickly leaving.
Before Callie could ask, Jaquan casually introduced her identity, “Karlie is the only daughter of Pablo from Faithview Group. They’ve always wanted to form an alliance with Scott Group through marriage.”
Callie was shocked, “Are you marrying her to solve Scott Group’s crisis?”
