Nelson slowly opened his eyes and said, “Stop the car.”
The private car behind them had been following for two days. It was obvious that the police had sent someone to keep an eye on them. Not wanting unnecessary trouble, he hadn’t tried to evade them.
Nelson grabbed a bottle of water and walked towards the car that had also stopped.
Marilyn sat in the driver’s seat, staring blankly as the man approached with steady steps. He stood beside her and knocked on her window.
Nelson handed her the water with a faint smile. “Why are you following me? Are you healed?”
Marilyn’s face was small. Seeing Nelson smile, she replied, “I’m here to conduct research for Oconnor Group. I happened to run into you. Can I interview Mr. Oconnor?”
She was now a research investigator, working hard on various company investigations. It wasn’t a job for a pampered young lady, but she managed it well.
Nelson looked at her. “I have three more meetings later. They won’t end until midnight. Can you handle it?”
Marilyn thought she misheard and instinctively checked her watch. It was six in the evening.
She almost thought Nelson was crazy. She had been following him for days, sleeping less than six hours in total.
His schedule never stopped. Marilyn grabbed the bottle of water and blurted out, “Nelson, take care of yourself.”
Nelson smiled and walked back.
Since the factory incident, Marilyn had been sticking to him more closely, becoming somewhat reckless.
Thinking of the factory reminded Nelson of Callie, and his expression darkened.
Marilyn watched him warily, clutching the bottle of water tightly.
Her family didn’t want her to contact Nelson, so she found ways to sneak out. No matter what, she didn’t want to give up on him.
Just like in the factory, he hadn’t given up on her.
Nelson’s last meeting location was changed at the last minute.
Some people in Ylosea had heard about the factory incident and insisted on hosting a welcome party for him at a famous venue.
The place was frequented by the wealthy and influential. Marilyn perked up and quietly followed Nelson inside.
These were people who had been supporting Nelson in Ylosea for years. They were enthusiastic, and Nelson gave them some face by drinking sparingly.
Marilyn weaved through the crowd, trying to keep up with Nelson, but was stopped by a waiter. “Miss, you’ve been here for a while. Please place an order.”
Two hours later, Nelson passed by after finishing his meeting.
Marilyn had collapsed on the table, her face flushed and unconscious. The empty wine glass in front of her and her muttering revealed her state: “Nelson, wait for me!”
Ben was woken up late at night to make a bowl of hangover soup.
This young lady’s drinking habits were not great. When drunk, she acted like a child, waving her hands around and making loud noises.
Nelson sat still on one side.
Ben glanced over with a questioning look, but Nelson didn’t explain.
The secretary quietly filled Ben in on the situation. Ben couldn’t hide his surprise. “Why didn’t I realize before that Mr. Oconnor is so charming? He has quite unique tastes.”
One girl was still recovering at home, and now he brought another one back.
Nelson’s cold gaze swept over, and Ben raised his hands in surrender. “But you need to keep her quiet. There’s a patient here.”
Nelson thought of Callie but didn’t react.
Ben sighed and went back to his room, missing Nelson’s action of restraining Marilyn’s flailing wrist.
