Harvey Adams chimed in, “If you ask me, this is karma. In Seclela, we have a saying: ‘What goes around, comes around.’ You think nobody’s watching what you’re doing? Jamie’s actions are proof of that. You think you can swear oaths like they’re nothing? You think there’s no one to hold you accountable? You reap just what you sow.”
Lyle let out a snort, just as he was about to say something.
Before he could get a word in, Kayden coldly interrupted, “It’s not just your son. Sooner or later, everything you’ve done will come to light too. Don’t forget another old saying: ‘There’s always a higher power watching.'”
Kayden stared directly into Jamie’s father’s eyes, and as their gazes locked, the old man started to feel a shiver run down his spine.
“Me? What have I done? Stop talking nonsense!” Jamie’s father, unsettled, pointed at Kayden, trying to sound defiant.
“Mr. Buller, you saw that, right? He’s slandering my son, making him out to be the villain, and now he’s coming after me. He’s… he’s trying to push my son to his death!”
Kayden remained calm as he replied, “If what I’m saying is slander, then what about what your son just did to us?”
Ignoring Lyle, Kayden shifted his focus to Jamie Adams, saying, “Jamie, you might as well fess up. Did you transfer the company’s money into your personal account? You better start talking, because staying quiet will only guarantee you spend the rest of your life behind bars. And I doubt you want to rot in prison for the rest of your days, especially not with your… condition.”
Jamie froze, his eyes wide with disbelief as he looked at Kayden. He shook his head, clearly wanting to say something, but after a few seconds of trembling, he stayed silent.
“You have any idea what you’ll face in prison? Don’t go thinking people in there have the same compassion as those on the outside. The weak get eaten alive in prison. The more vulnerable you are, the more you’ll be targeted. Whether you speak or stay silent won’t change the outcome for you. I’ve got all the evidence I need. Not to mention, Leonel Ford has already spilled everything to me. So I think you should…”
“No way!” Jamie, panicked, couldn’t help but shout, shaking his head in denial. “There’s no way you could know! The Fords would never…”
He abruptly cut himself off, but it was too late. Sweat drenched his body, and no matter how hard he tried to cover it up, his words had already given him away. Jamie was too inexperienced, and in Kayden’s eyes, he wasn’t even worthy of being considered an opponent.
“Oh?” Kayden raised an eyebrow, his tone casual as he asked, “So you’re admitting you took the money, huh?”
Jamie snapped out of his daze, struggling to recover, “No, no, I didn’t…”
But before he could finish, waves of pain rippled through his body, and he couldn’t help but grimace, crying out in agony. The intense pain from his wounds flared up, making him scream uncontrollably.
“Jamie, are you okay?” His mother rushed over, worried.
Tears streamed down Jamie’s face, and like a helpless child, he whimpered, “It hurts, Mom. It hurts…”
Kayden was unmoved. “This is nothing. The real pain is yet to come. Now that you’ve admitted it, I don’t mind refreshing your memory about what went down.”
“You must be wondering why the Fords didn’t kill my wife, right?” Kayden’s voice was sharp as a blade, his fiery eyes locked on Jamie, who seemed terrified, like he was being seen right through.
Jamie gulped, avoiding Kayden’s gaze, trembling with fear as he stammered, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t know anything.”
Ignoring his denial, Kayden continued, “I know everything you and the Fords did. Leonel Ford ordered you to kidnap my wife, intending to kill her. You agreed without hesitation because your little tricks didn’t work on her, and you thought you’d never get a shot at the family head position unless she was gone.”
“That day, you went to old Mrs. Adams, accusing my wife of stealing company funds and fleeing. But it was you who took the money. You wouldn’t have had the guts to pull it off alone, but the Fords assured you they’d cover for you, so you went ahead. In your eyes, my wife was already dead, so you shamelessly reported her to old Mrs. Adams.”
“You didn’t need to be so ruthless. You could’ve just claimed she was assassinated, and the company would’ve fallen into your hands. That would’ve been your redemption. But no, you took all the money for yourself and framed her.”
“And I’m guessing the Fords haven’t been answering your calls lately, have they?”
Kayden stopped; his gaze fixed on Jamie’s face. His entire expression was a dead giveaway. Sweat poured down his face, and his darting eyes were full of panic. It was clear as day that Kayden had hit the mark.
“Don’t be so nervous. It’s not just you-the Fords’ every move has been under my watch. My wife is unharmed because the Fords don’t have the power to touch her.”
The room fell silent. Everyone was shocked! The Fords couldn’t touch Georgia Adams? How was that possible? The Fords were the most powerful family in Hiphia. How could they not have the power to deal with someone like Georgia Adams? Was Kayden out of his mind?
No. No one dared to say he was crazy. The way he spoke, the calm confidence on his face, wasn’t the behavior of someone making wild claims. Even Georgia, who had spent three years sleeping in the same room as Kayden, didn’t feel like he was lying.
Was Kayden protecting her? No. It was the sheer force of his presence, a power that couldn’t be faked.
Jamie’s father, watching Kayden’s dominating performance, stammered, “You… you… you’re just talking nonsense! Do you even know what the Fords are? You have no idea…”
“Shut up!”
