“Yes, yes!” Jamie exclaimed, as if he’d seen the light.
Dixon urged, “Who? Quick, call them here!”
Jamie smirked smugly. “No need. The witness is Grandma.”
Old Mrs. Adams looked bewildered. If she’d known anything, Georgia would’ve already faced family punishment and the authorities. How could she stand idly by if she had evidence about her precious grandson’s condition? What game was Jamie playing? Was he trying to drag her down with him? If so, this ungrateful child might as well be dead to her.
Jamie, oblivious to her thoughts, pressed on excitedly. “Grandma, remember that day when Georgia transferred company assets? I swore on my knees that if I ever took company money, I’d break my limbs in a fall. She must have used that against me. How else could I possibly break my bones from a simple fall? Grandma, you were there. You can testify!”
In truth, after making that oath, Jamie had inwardly laughed. Who could be so unlucky to break their limbs from a mere fall? He’d even mocked Kayden and Georgia afterward.
But astonishingly, just two days later, his limbs were indeed broken. This timing only strengthened his conviction that Georgia was behind it.
Of course, he knew Georgia wasn’t capable of such an act-it had to be Kayden. But he was determined to pin it on Georgia, to bring her down even if it killed him.
“Enough!” Old Mrs. Adams’s cane struck the floor, her face flushed with anger.
Glaring at Jamie, she scolded, “Not another word! You’re disgracing our entire family!”
Confused by her reaction, Jamie stammered, “Grandma, you-”
“Shut up!” Even Dixon couldn’t hold back his fury.
Seeing their expressions, Jamie fell silent.
Old Mrs. Adams turned to Neville, apologetic. “Mr. Buller, I’m terribly sorry. We’ve failed in raising him properly.”
Neville cut to the chase. “It’s nothing new. Many useless young masters are like this nowadays. Idle all day, bullying family members. But when they step outside, reality hits. As they say, if you don’t discipline your children, the world will do it for you. I’m surprised, though. In such a prominent family, how could you not see your own grandson’s true nature? It’s amusing so many people rush to his defense.”
The Adams family members flushed with embarrassment, unable to meet anyone’s gaze.
“All this talk, and still just speculation. What a waste of my time!” Neville said bluntly to Jamie.
Scarlett laughed coldly. “Mr. Buller is right. This is typical of him, always bullying Georgia. Serves him right to get a taste of his own medicine out in the real world.”
“Scarlett, how dare you!” Dixon raged, pointing at her accusingly.
Kayden, who had been silent until now, stepped forward. Looking directly at Jamie, he asked, “Jamie, you say this is karma for your oath. Does that mean you did steal company funds?”
This question hit Jamie like a bolt of lightning, his body trembling uncontrollably.
Old Mrs. Adams’s eyes widened in shock. The implication was staggering-had Jamie really embezzled millions from the company?
Her piercing gaze bore into Jamie, making him break out in goosebumps. He was her favorite grandson, the one she’d hoped would inherit leadership despite his incompetence. If he had truly betrayed the family like this, it would be devastating.
Jamie, already in pain, felt a new chill run down his spine under his grandmother’s intense stare.
“Jamie, is this true?” Old Mrs. Adams demanded, her voice firm.
Jamie stuttered, “Well, um, that is…”
His father, unable to bear it, interjected, “For heaven’s sake!”
“Mom, can’t you see they’re slandering Jamie?” he pleaded. “They’ve already hurt him, and now they’re trying to ruin his reputation. It’s a ploy to turn you against him!”
Pointing at Kayden and Georgia, he continued angrily, “They’re twisting the knife! You raised Jamie yourself. You know what he’s capable of, what he’d never do. Surely you know your own grandson wouldn’t betray the family like this.”
“Is that so?” Kayden pressed, his eyes fixed on Jamie’s father. Like father, like son, he thought. How tragic that Christopher, such an upright man, had produced such a son.
Dixon swallowed hard. “Yes! You’re spouting nonsense, making wild accusations. I know my son better than anyone. He’d never betray our family. You can blame us for many things, but not this. My son isn’t capable of such treachery.”
Kayden chuckled coldly. “Then explain why Jamie broke his limbs.”
“You did this, and you dare to ask?” Dixon shouted, pointing accusingly at Kayden.
Neville coughed lightly, intervening. “Mind your words, Dixon. Slander has consequences. We’ve already established you have no evidence for your claims.”
Dixon froze, nodding reluctantly, not daring to say another word.
