Chapter 202: Rumors and Gossip

“Don’t worry, it can’t be fake. The next job will be better. I’d better start looking for a new position!”
“Oh my, Ms. Adams’s husband is quite the character, isn’t he? Picking fights with the worst possible person.”
“Maybe he really does have some skills. Didn’t you see how he handled that computer last time?”
“Huh! Skills? You call fixing computers a skill? He’s offended Ferris! Even if he had real skills, he’s doomed now! Anyone in Hiphia respects Ferris. Even Jack and the Ford family probably wouldn’t dare cross Ferris. Everyone knows he’s not someone to be trifled with.”
“Ms. Adams’s husband is so cute, pretending to make that phone call.”
“Don’t forget, he’s an idiot!”
“Ahahaha!”
“…”
Inside the office.
Lara swallowed hard before addressing Georgia, “Ms. Adams, what exactly happened in there? If you’ve angered Mr. Carrick, he’s capable of anything.”
“That’s enough. You can go now. Just do your job,” Kayden instructed coldly.
Lara hesitated, looking to Georgia for confirmation. Georgia’s silence was taken as agreement.
Shooting a resentful glance at Kayden, Lara finally left the office.
As soon as she was gone, Georgia anxiously said, “Kayden, how could you be so reckless? How could you hit Ferris? If he really retaliates, we won’t be able to survive in Hiphia. He’s a powerhouse in the financial world. One word from him can determine the fate of companies like ours.”
She looked at Kayden, who maintained his carefree expression, which only increased Georgia’s agitation. Seeing her distress, Kayden said nonchalantly, “Didn’t I already tell you? Ferris will come begging to you. Just wait and see.”
Already anxious, Georgia became even more upset hearing this. She snorted, “I told you to stop boasting. Saying things like that in front of so many people at the company… how will they think of me now? Ugh! You’re driving me crazy!”
Any remaining goodwill Kayden had felt instantly evaporated.
Kayden was taken aback. He looked at Georgia earnestly and said, “I’ve told you before, every word I’ve ever said to you is true. It was true in the past, it’s true now, and it will always be true in the future.”
How could Georgia possibly believe what Kayden was saying? A single phone call to make Ferris unemployed and blacklisted from the financial world? Who did he think he was? The Hades, able to sentence someone to death with a single word?
He clearly had no idea of his place. Ferris was different from Tony, let alone Georgia herself. Compared to these rich kids, Kayden was way out of his league. He was being far too presumptuous!
But then, why should she argue with Kayden? At least his intentions were good, even if his methods were misguided due to his… limited mental capacity. She rubbed her forehead, sighing deeply and stamping her foot in frustration.
She could handle the company being in trouble, but if Ferris targeted Kayden specifically, he might not be as lucky as before.
“Forget it, I’m done talking about this. I’ll go beg Ferris for mercy. Maybe it’ll help.”
She had barely taken two steps when Kayden grabbed her arm. The sudden stop spun Georgia around, and she looked back at him with a frown. Kayden stared into her eyes and said, “After what he just did to you, if you go begging him, what do you think he’ll demand? Do you think he’ll let you off easy? He’ll only push for more!”
Georgia paused. Kayden had a point. Ferris had shown his true colors. If she went to him now, who knew what he might demand?
Without a doubt, he’d want her to pay with her body! She’d never even experienced such things before, how could she give herself to a scumbag like Ferris? Was Kayden actually concerned about her?
Swallowing hard, she asked, “Is that really what you think?”
Kayden didn’t answer. Instead, he said, “Trust me. He will come back begging you.”
Kayden spoke slowly, deliberately, his eyes never leaving Georgia’s. His gaze and words left no room for doubt.
Just as Georgia was about to respond, her phone rang. She pulled it out and saw it was her grandmother calling. She looked up at Kayden and said cautiously, “It’s Grandma. Lara must have told her what happened.”
“It’s fine, answer it,” Kayden said calmly, still looking unperturbed.
“Grandma!” Georgia answered the call.
Her grandmother’s thunderous voice came through the speaker. “Georgia, come to the city hospital right now!”
She hung up immediately, leaving Georgia confused.
“The hospital? What happened?” Georgia muttered.
Kayden remained unruffled. “Let’s go. People don’t go to hospitals unless something’s wrong.”
Georgia didn’t dwell on it further. At this point, they could only deal with things as they came. As Kayden had said, if she went to Ferris, he’d definitely make filthy requests. So she wouldn’t go.
She made a quick decision to go to the hospital. Without hesitation, they headed out. At the company’s front desk, Kayden told the receptionist, “If Ferris comes looking for my wife, tell him to fuck off!”
The receptionist’s eyes widened in disbelief. Tell Ferris to fuck off? Even with a hundred lives, she wouldn’t dare do such a thing. Sure, Ferris had left in a sorry state earlier, but that didn’t mean he’d come back. And if he did, it would be to cause trouble. Telling him to fuck off was horrible!
Kayden ignored the receptionist’s reaction and strode out of the company.
A woman hurried over to the receptionist and asked, “What did he just tell you?”
The receptionist hesitated before replying, “He said if Ferris comes, I should tell him to fuck off!”
“Pfft!” The woman couldn’t help but laugh, mocking, “What an idiot. He must still be out of his mind! And Ms. Adams even went along with everything he says!”
“Such a beautiful girl stuck with a dumb. What a waste!”
“Waste? Huh! You have no idea how many men that ‘beautiful girl’ has been with! Ahahaha!”
