When she saw him staring boldly at Halle, Ying Xiaoxiao felt a little upset inside, but she still nodded and said, “Yes, it’s a new friend I have just met.”
“Just met?” Corey raised his brows. “You gals were chatting and looking so at ease, I thought you were good friends.”
Then, he offered Halle Mitchell his hand. “Hello, I’m Corey.”
Halle Mitchell glanced at Ying Xiaoxiao and stood up, shaking his hand. She gave a charming smile. “Hello, I am Halle Mitchell. Very pleased to meet you.”
Corey gave a roguish smile. “I’m very pleased to meet such a pretty lady too.”
Suddenly, he felt a stabbing pain in his calf. He murmured a dull groan, then turned to glare at Ying Xiaoxiao.
“Why did you kick me?” He mimed at her.
Ying Xiaoxiao gave him a feigned, insincere smile. She deliberately lowered her voice and whispered in his ear, “Corey, bear in mind who you are!”
Then she turned to look at Halle Mitchell, who was looking completely baffled, and smiled. “Halle, he’s my boyfriend, always so naughty and annoying.”
Then she glared at Corey with feigned reproach, pretending to be his docile girl. She really made Halle Mitchell think they were true lovers.
Halle Mitchell was not the least bit suspicious. She merely eyed Corey from head to toe and complimented him. “Xiaoxiao, your boyfriend is so handsome.”
“Not too bad.” Ying Xiaoxiao modestly covered her mouth and tittered, an undisguisable pride appearing on her brows.
“How pretentious!” Corey rolled his eyes internally. If it weren’t for their former pact, he would have disclosed the fact that they were not true lovers. It was all an act!
Halle Mitchell smiled. Seeing that her boyfriend was there, she was too embarrassed to continue drinking with Xiaoxiao. She quickly found an excuse and said, “Xiaoxiao, I think I’ve drunk a little too much. I don’t feel good and would like to go home first and rest.”
Without waiting for Xiaoxiao’s response, she took her handbag and left hurriedly.
Xiaoxiao did not call out to her, merely glancing at her departing figure with an impassive face. Then she sat back on the high stool, grabbed the unfinished cocktail on the counter and downed it in one gulp.
When he saw this, Corey sat on the stool that had just been vacated by Halle Mitchell and asked for a Martini. Then he turned around and saw Ying Xiaoxiao’s originally fair face now suffused with a light crimson flush. Under the mesmeric atmosphere of the bar lights, she looked so alluring. His heart could not help but skip a beat.
He took a sip of the cocktail to drown the strange feelings inside him.
“Corey.” Ying Xiaoxiao suddenly called his name.
“Hm?” His slender brows rose as he stared at her in bafflement.
A smile made Ying Xiaoxiao’s lips curve. She turned around and glared at him. “Why do I always meet you in bars?”
“Always?” Corey frowned. “It’s only been twice if we count this time.”
“You like visiting such places?” Ying Xiaoxiao squinted her eyes slightly.
“I’m okay with them. I come whenever I’m bored.” Corey’s reply was also very candid.
“Do you always come alone?” she asked again.
Corey frowned. “Dear Miss Ying, does it matter if I come alone?”
“Of course… ” Ying Xiaoxiao was just about to say, “Of course it matters,” when she saw the meaningful expression in his eyes. She instantly changed the expression to “Of course not.”
She did not sound like she meant it when she said, “Of course not.”
Corey smiled. “since it’s not important, don’t ask anymore.”
Ying Xiaoxiao suddenly became depressed.
What did he mean by “since it’s not important, don’t ask anymore”? She would not have asked so many questions if he weren’t her boyfriend.
