Chapter 106:
Alexander’s POV
“So…” She straightened herself when the children had fallen asleep again. “What has this got to do with the death of my mother?.” She asked with a glare.
Now it was my turn to reveal my own truth and take responsibility for my own actions.
I rubbed my palms together as I shifted uncomfortably in nervousness. I glanced shortly at my father to find him sitting quietly with a ghost of a smirk on his face. That ugly bastard!.
I turned to Lily again and her sharp gaze was on me, waiting for me to speak. “Well?.” She pressed narrowing her eyes at me.
“There was a time where…”. A harsh knock on the door diverted my attention.
“And who could it be again?.” Lily sighed and rolled her eyes.
“Let me check.”. My father offered and Lily was about to decline his offer when she realized that it would be strenuous and absolutely unsafe for to take the two children who occupied her arms to get the door.
“Okay”. She said with hesitation.
My father walked in calculated steps to the door and pulled it open. His eyes widened for a second before he hissed and rolled his eyes. “Do you need something?”. He asked whoever was at the other end in a harsh tone.
“Let me in!.” The familiar voice barked.
“Who is at the door?”. Lily asked, stretching to see who was at the door.
“Susan.” My father said in a dry tone as he moved to the side revealing my upset mother.
My mother always wore a frown or a cold expression on her face. Others would think she was upset or just harsh but they were wrong. I knew to well what it felt like to be broken and not what to see white flowers and rainbows in this world again. Unless I did not know the depths of her sorrows. I only knew what she let on.
There were also so many things that I too did not understand, Like why my parents hated each other, I knew just a tiny bit of it but it seemed that even before then, there was no love between them. They basically lived as roommates.
“What are you doing here?.” Lily asked standing up glaring at my mother.
“Don’t speak to me like that!.” My mother spat out harshly. “I don’t even want to be in this filthy place!.” She said looking around as her face contorted to a look of sheer disgust.
“Then why don’t you just leave!. Last I checked nobody invited you to my home!.” Lily growled.
Why my mother also hated Lily was also a mystery to me. Lily had done absolutely nothing to deserve the hate she shows to her but my mother had made it her sole purpose to always show wickedness. I just couldn’t understand it, what the war and quarrel was all about. What exactly were they fighting for?
“Actually I did.” I responded quietly and Lily snapped her head so quickly I feared she would break a neck and flashed me a deadly look.
“You invited Susan into my home without my consent?.” She asked with a glare.
“Yes, but it was for a purpose.” I tried to justify my act as I attempted to hide away from her murderous scowl.
“For a purpose.!”. She laughed sinisterly.
“Yes, she has to be here today if we all truly want to know the truth.” I explained.
That seemed to calm her down a bit as she stared at me for a while before taking a seat again. “Still, You should have asked me.” She said through gritted teeth.
“I’m sorry. I just want this all to be over because even I do not know the complete truth about everything.” I said with a sigh.
She glanced at me shortly before turning to my father who was still standing at the door, blocking my mother from entering into the house. “Let her in.” She said quietly. My father obliged and moved away for my mother to come in, shutting the door behind him.
As she got in, she looked around and hissed before taking a seat close to me. “My baby!.” She cooed at me, pulling me into a hug.
“Mom please!.” I shunned her as I pulled away from the tight embrace. My mother was always like that, it was nice but just overbearing at times.
“You no longer love your mother now hmm?, because of this silly girl?.” She asked glaring at Lily. Lily on the other hand just rolled her eyes and looked away, ignoring her. I was more than thankful for that.
“Mom please stop it. Let’s just get on with what we’re here for.” I sighed already exasperated. We were not here to argue whether I loved her or not, or who I love most. “In peace.” I begged.
“So I’m not peaceful?!.” She argued.
“Susan!.”
“Mom!.”
My father and I screamed in unison. We were both too tired for any of her drama. Sensing that we were not having it, she got quiet and sulked in her seat. She was too dramatic yet I loved her regardless. She was my mother after all.
“I apologize.” I said quietly to Lily.
“So who’s going talk?.” She snapped ignoring my apology.
My mother was about to make a snarky remark when I beat her to it. “I will.” I responded eyeing my mother.
I sighed and continued. “Some months after the death of Daisy, my mother found out that my father had been cheating on her with someone. My mother had been so hurt and broken, I couldn’t bear to watch her suffer like that. I had to do whatever I could to make her feel better . I had to help my mother. So I …”
“You what?” Lily asked with trembling lips. “What did you do to ‘make her feel better’?”
“Please don’t put it that way.” I begged.
“Right, I just want to you to say it directly first.” She snapped. “Because I don’t believe you that would literally take someone’s life just to make your mother feel better, you might as well kill me or do any dangerous and immoral act just to make your mummy feel better.” She spat out, eyeing both my mother and I.
I paused staring at everyone. She was making it seem like I was crazy or something. I’m sure that anyone in my place would have done the same… right?.
I sighed and continued. “At the time I only knew her to be Rose. I didn’t know that she was your mother.”
“You were having an affair with my mother?.” Lily turned to my father.
He bent his head. “Yes”. He gulped looking around.
“Didn’t you know that she was married, weren’t you also married?. How could both of you do that?.” She threw questions at him.
“You wouldn’t understand.” He said quietly.
“Of course, you’re the victim in this situation.!” My mother spat out bitterly. I could tell she was still hurt by it.
“I loved her okay!.” He yelled. “She was my first love!.” He said quietly in a trembling voice. As soon as it was out, he looked at us wide eyed like it was secret he wanted to take to his grave.
“What?!.” We all screamed in unison.
“What do you mean?.” Lily asked.
“How is that possible”. I asked almost the same time.
“She was your first love?.” My mother asked in a broken tone after a while of silence.
My father turned to her. “Yes”. He whispered quietly after another prolonged silence.
I and Lily just watched quietly cause now we knew this was no longer about us anymore. We were about to find out what exactly happened to them and their relationship and how they got to this point.
