The man’s actions first startled Jenna. When she saw his injuries, she realized something and instinctively reached out to help him up from the ground.
“The one who should have died is me! I caused the captain’s death!” The man was filled with sorrow, guilt, and regret. Even as Jenna reached out to assist him, he showed no intention of getting up.
Helpless, Jenna turned her gaze to Carson.
Carson recognized the man with the severed hand and said in a deep voice, “He is a member of Jackson’s team, codenamed Hunter Hawk.”
Due to confidentiality rules, Carson couldn’t reveal the man’s real name.
As Jackson’s wife, Jenna was well aware of these rules. She extended her hand again and said, “Hunter, you don’t have to do this. If you have something to say, stand up and speak.”
Hunter Hawk finally stood up, wiping the corners of his eyes with his left arm that lacked a hand, his face filled with pain.
Suppressing her own sorrow, Jenna looked at Hunter Hawk and asked, “Hunter, what exactly happened?”
Hunter Hawk choked up and said, “We were ambushed during our mission. Although we managed to defeat the enemy, the captain was ambushed while protecting me.”
“If I hadn’t been so eager to fight and chase down the last fleeing enemy, the captain wouldn’t have been seriously injured…”
As he spoke, Hunter Hawk couldn’t control his emotions any longer and broke down in tears.
A man of seven feet was now crying like a child, showing just how deeply Hunter Hawk was hurt.
The incident had already occurred, and blaming anyone wouldn’t help. Jenna sighed inwardly, wiped her tears, and comforted him, “Hunter, Jackson is your captain. He must protect you. This isn’t your fault.”
Jenna had been married to Jackson for many years and knew him better than she knew herself. She understood that to Jackson, his team members were like family.
During missions, no matter how dangerous it got, he would always protect his brothers.
“Did you encounter a second ambush while chasing that fleeing enemy?” Leo suddenly asked.
Hunter Hawk looked at Leo and nodded, “Yes, I never expected the enemy to be so treacherous…”
Before Hunter Hawk could finish speaking, Carson suddenly exclaimed in surprise, “You… you are Jackson’s son!?”
Leo’s resemblance to a younger Jackson was uncanny, almost as if they were carved from the same mold. Coupled with Leo arriving with Jenna, Carson couldn’t help but be astonished.
Not only Carson but other soldiers also widened their eyes in disbelief.
Jason quickly stepped forward and said, “Sir, you misunderstand. His name is Leo; he’s from Langstel and has no relation to Jackson or the Bloomer family.”
Carson responded with an “Oh” and then sighed, “He really looks alike…”
Standing nearby, Jenna felt a tremor in her heart. An uncontrollable thought emerged in her mind: how wonderful it would be if Leo were truly her son. Even if Jackson never woke up, at least his lineage would continue.
Sighing inwardly for her wandering thoughts, Jenna quickly dismissed them from her mind. She looked at Hunter Hawk and continued to ask, “Hunter, what happened to those who ambushed you in the second wave?”
Hearing Jenna’s question, a hint of pride appeared in Hunter Hawk’s pained expression as he replied, “The captain killed all those who ambushed us in the second wave!”
This answer brought some relief to Jenna and everyone else present.
At least none of the ambushing enemies survived!
Leo pondered for a moment before looking at Hunter Hawk again and asking, “Did you investigate the identity of the enemies afterward?”
“Leo, this is Bloomer family business; it’s not your place to ask questions here. Know your position!” Jason said coldly.
“Jason, Dr. Leo is here at my invitation. Anything concerning Jackson’s safety is something he has the right to know!” Jenna looked at Jason with displeasure.
Jason frowned and said in a deep voice, “Jenna, you went all the way to Langstel to find an outsider. Don’t you…”
Jenna interrupted him, “Jason, Leo is a doctor. I asked him to come and help with Jackson. It has nothing to do with whether he’s an outsider!”
“Hmph! What use is a fake doctor!” Jason snorted coldly and said no more.
Xavier couldn’t help but speak up, “I know Uncle Jackson’s abilities. For those who ambushed him to hurt him means they must be formidable.”
“Those people indeed…”
Before Hunter Hawk could finish speaking, Carson interrupted him: “Enough. This isn’t the time for such discussions!”
Carson’s words made Hunter Hawk realize he almost breached protocol and quickly fell silent.
Concerned about her husband, Jenna was not pleased and said to Carson: “Sir, can you tell me privately who hurt Jackson?”
Carson reluctantly refused: “Jenna, there are regulations from above. I can’t say much about this matter; I hope you understand.”
“Regulations! Everything is about regulations! My husband is now in critical condition, and you won’t even tell me who hurt him!” Jenna’s emotions flared up again.
Carson smiled wryly and was about to offer some comfort when a burst of crying came from the hallway. Soon after, six or seven people appeared in the corridor-adults and children among them.
Among them were two women Leo had met before-Nicholas’s daughters ranked fourth and fifth in the Bloomer family.
Following them were two men and three children-Clara and Naima’s respective husbands and kids.
Clara had a boy who looked about twelve or thirteen years old; Naima had a boy and a girl who seemed younger, around seven or eight years old.
Clara and Naima approached Jason and Jacob. Upon learning that Jackson had not yet awakened, they began crying even more sorrowfully.
Both women then took Jenna by the arms. Clara said sadly: “Jenna, even if Jackson never wakes up again, you will always be our sister-in-law and a member of the Bloomer family!”
Naima echoed: “Jenna, if Jackson is gone, Clara and I will treat you as our sister.”
Their words turned Jenna’s sorrowful face into one of anger. Though they sounded comforting, they showed no real concern for Jackson’s fate.
Jenna knew Old Bloomer’s two daughters well; they would stop at nothing for the Bloomer family’s assets.
