Olivia made a silent decision. “You’re right, I must get a driver’s license. I’m a modern young woman; how can I not have a license?”
“Sign up for VIP lessons with a dedicated coach, and you’ll get your license quickly,” Carley advised. “Then you can buy a Ferrari. The new models are even prettier than my Porsche. I wanted one, but my brother wouldn’t buy it for me until I proved myself.”
“Really?” Olivia’s eyes lit up. “Once I get my license, I’ll ask my dad to buy me that car you mentioned. Do you have a picture? Let me see what it looks like.”
“I’ll show you the models when we get to the mall. You’ll love it,” Carley said, looking at Olivia’s radiant face and feeling happy for her.
This lively Olivia was a stark contrast to the gloomy and sad person she used to be, who never knew how to interact with others. Maybe… losing her memory was a good thing for her.
Soon, they arrived at the mall. After parking the car, Carley and Olivia went straight to the elevator. The signal inside was weak, and Carley couldn’t load the car pictures on her app.
“Wait until we connect to the mall’s Wi-Fi; it should work better then.”
“No rush,” Olivia smiled, dressed casually in sporty attire that made her look refreshing and cheerful. She seemed like a completely different person from the old, melancholic Olivia.
Carley’s mood lifted as well. Once they exited the elevator, she showed Olivia the Ferrari pictures. “Look at this car, isn’t it amazing?”
“Ferrari 488? This model looks so cool!” Olivia’s eyes sparkled as she looked at the car on the screen. “Over four hundred thousand dollars, not too expensive.”
“It’s your first time asking for a car; your parents will definitely buy it for you,” Carley laughed and opened another page. “Check this out; it’s even more expensive.”
“Lamborghini Aventador? This one is really pricey, almost a million dollars.” Olivia was stunned by the sleek lines of the car. It was perfect but very expensive, with lower-end models costing over six hundred thousand and high-end ones nearly a million.
She preferred Ferraris or Porsches, which were cheaper.
As they chatted, they arrived at a high-end boutique. Olivia held Carley’s hand. “It’s too early to think about this now; I need to get my license first.”
“Your brothers spoil you so much; they’ll chip in for your car,” Carley said enviously. “They treat you so well; a car is nothing.”
“I want my parents to buy it, not them,” Olivia pouted. Everyone told her how much her brothers loved her, but she didn’t feel that sibling closeness.
It was strange. Did she not get along with her brothers before? Even her best friends said they treated her well…
Something felt off. Never mind, she thought.
While Olivia tried on clothes, Carley got bored and texted Sylvia.
“Did you know? She lost her memory.”
“She’s so much more cheerful and lively now.”
“It’s like she’s a different person.”
“Do you think she’ll ever regain her memory? If she does, she’ll be in pain again.”
Sylvia had just put Jenna to sleep and was sipping water when she received Carley’s messages. Seeing them, she smiled slightly. As expected, Olivia had changed after waking up without her memory.
It seemed the sealing spell Sylvia had learned worked well. During Olivia’s surgery, she had not only removed the binding spell but also cast a sealing and protection spell.
It was her first time using the sealing spell, so she was anxious and didn’t inquire about Olivia’s condition to avoid suspicion. Now she felt relieved. The protection spell would keep any harmful spells away from Olivia.
Sylvia put down her cup and replied, “Is she feeling unwell or showing any symptoms? If so, she must go to the hospital.”
“She’s been fine for a while now, very lively. If she stays like this forever, it would be great,” Carley genuinely hoped Olivia could live happily.
Not like before when she was trapped in suicidal despair.
Hearing that Olivia was healthy, Sylvia felt a weight lift off her shoulders. The spell seemed effective; sealing Olivia’s memories had turned her into a different person-a pleasant surprise.
Maybe this was Olivia’s true personality!
Just then, Carley sent a short video of Olivia trying on clothes. In the video, Olivia wore a long Christmas sweater with a red Christmas design, paired with a white beret, shorts hidden under the sweater, and Martin boots.
She looked adorable and lively.
She twirled around and asked Carley in a crisp voice, “Carley, does this sweater look good? Christmas is coming; let’s buy matching Christmas sweaters and celebrate together!”
Sylvia couldn’t help but smile at her cheerful voice.
This was wonderful.
She put away her phone and looked out at the snowy world outside. After yesterday’s heavy snowfall, the hospital garden was covered in snow except for cleared paths.
They say a heavy snow promises a good harvest. The snow in the garden also nourished the plants.
Hopefully, Jenna could be discharged by New Year’s and celebrate with everyone.
Sylvia thought about this as she continued drinking her water.
Meanwhile, at the mall.
Carley couldn’t resist Olivia’s enthusiasm and bought matching Christmas sweaters, berets, shorts, and Martin boots.
They took selfies together and posted them on social media.
After shopping for clothes, Olivia bought small gifts for her family. “Even though I’ve lost my memory, I can tell my parents love me very much. They must have worried about me a lot.”
“I’ll buy something for my brother too,” Carley said cheerfully as she picked out a men’s lighter.
After buying gifts, they went to a cafe on the first floor for afternoon tea and took more photos until evening when Carley drove Olivia home.
“My brother agreed; you can start at Kaur Group tomorrow. Remember to bring your ID and diploma for HR procedures,” Carley reminded Olivia as she lowered the car window.
“Got it. Thank you; see you tomorrow.” Olivia happily went inside.
Carley drove off quickly.
At home, Olivia handed out gifts to everyone.
“Shopping is so much fun.”
Bryce was surprised to receive a gift-a dark red tie.
The old Olivia never gave him or Dexter anything. She avoided them as much as possible… how could she have been so kind?
He stared at Olivia, who seemed like someone else wearing her face.
Could amnesia really change someone’s personality so drastically?
“This is for Dexter when he comes back,” Olivia said, putting another tie in Bryce’s hands. “Bryce, keep this for Dexter.”
Luca and Mrs. Hogan were moved to tears. “My dear Olivia! This is wonderful!”
“God has blessed us with such a lovely daughter.”
“This is my daughter’s gift to me; I’ll show it off at mahjong tomorrow,” Mrs. Hogan said, admiring her new jade earrings.
Even Old Mrs. Hogan received a luxury scarf of excellent quality and soft texture.
The old lady had always favored boys over girls and never showed kindness to this adopted granddaughter. But seeing Olivia’s struggles with depression and suicide softened her heart slightly. Though still stern-faced, she tried on the scarf and found it looked great.
She nodded approvingly. “Good taste.”
The family hadn’t been this lively in ages.
Previously, Olivia’s illness and mental state kept everyone on edge; the whole house felt gloomy.
Though everyone was happy now, the Hogan brothers were not pleased.
Bryce felt lost.
His sister’s memory held no affection for him or Dexter… what should he do? Forcefully assert himself?
That wouldn’t work; it might traumatize Olivia further…
Bryce sat at the dining table, watching Olivia joke with Old Mrs. Hogan while sipping soup absentmindedly until he burned his mouth.
“Ouch!”
“Bryce, how could you be so careless?” Olivia blinked at him with clear eyes. “Like a three-year-old.”
Bryce smiled awkwardly. “I wasn’t paying attention.”
Her gaze was pure and natural without fear or dread.
Bryce thought to himself that if he could control Olivia once, he could do it again.
