Before he could say anything, Jane smiled and spoke again, “Alright, you go ahead and get busy. Mom won’t bother you. Just remember the time; your dad said you need to meet a business partner later, don’t forget.”
“Got it,” replied a gentle male voice.
The middle-aged woman nodded and turned to leave, gently closing the door behind her.
In her heart, she felt regret. If only Tom had ended up with Monica, how great would that be? She and Belinda were good friends. Thirty-five years old and still no marriage prospects; soon it would be thirty-six. Who knows when she would get to hold a grandchild? No wonder her mother-in-law was anxious.
After his mother left, Tom Fritz turned his attention back to his desk.
He really didn’t want to meet Lisa. Despite her excellence, he had no interest in her and was very resistant to blind dates. But given the current situation, he had no choice but to meet her.
His grandmother had brought her over; he couldn’t let her stay in a hotel when they had such a big estate. So, Lisa would not only be visible but also around for several days.
He planned to find an opportunity to explain things clearly to her so she wouldn’t misunderstand or be led on.
Tom Fritz didn’t check his emails this morning as he had planned; his mood had been disrupted by his mother. He suddenly felt down and just wanted to sit alone for a while.
A girl’s seven years of youth spent on him weighed heavily on him; he felt unworthy of such a burden.
Seeing the number of emails, he hadn’t slept well last night.
Morning.
When Agnes slowly woke up, she found Summer lying beside her. Remembering her emotions and state from last night, she still felt sad today, mentally exhausted already starting to set in.
Summer looked beautiful with her eyes closed, so serene… like a sleeping beauty. Summer was getting married; she could marry for love.
Agnes truly envied her and felt happy for her from the bottom of her heart. How lucky it was to marry someone you love!
Sensing Agnes’s gaze, Summer opened her eyes and quietly looked at her. “Knowing it’s inevitable.”
Agnes smiled slightly, a bit sadly, “And accepting it as fate.”
“So, I hope you can let it go.”
“Yeah.”
Soon, the sisters got out of bed. Agnes hadn’t even washed her face or brushed her teeth yet when she went to the balcony where the cat lived.
“Meow~” Agnes carefully approached the space capsule. “Bubu, are you awake?”
“Meow~” The cute little cat poked its head out, then its short legs bounced out and jumped into her arms after a few leaps.
Agnes sat cross-legged on the floor, holding and gently stroking its smooth back. “Did you sleep well last night?”
“Little Bubu, do you have any worries?”
“Meow~”
After a while, Agnes snapped back to reality. She took a deep breath; she couldn’t keep draining herself emotionally. Since she had decided not to cling anymore…
She picked up her phone and opened the camera function, taking a few pictures of the little cat and sending them to Tom Fritz.
In the morning, sitting at his desk, Tom’s phone chimed with notifications. He picked it up and stared at the profile picture for a moment-sunflowers? Bubu?
For a moment, he was dazed, thinking of the girl who sent emails. Could it be a coincidence?
The phone chimed several more times in succession. He unlocked it and opened the images-pictures of little Bubu.
