Williams smiled. “This has nothing to do with whether I’m open-minded; I didn’t prepare the information.”
Tom took another sip of his pudding, still not reaching out to take the documents.
“Take it,” his father said sternly, patiently holding out the papers. “This is a task your grandmother gave to your mother. Don’t make things difficult for her.”
Tom looked at the documents in front of him with a headache.
“Whether you marry her or not is your decision,” his father said, showing his open-mindedness. “But reviewing these materials is something we must ensure you do.”
Thinking about his grandmother’s imminent return, Tom’s mood turned gloomy.
“You haven’t even looked at it,” Williams said confidently, speaking gently. “I have time; I’ll go through it with you.”
Rather than accompanying, it was more like supervising.
Tom Fritz’s gaze fell on the documents his father handed him. He put down his pudding cup and reluctantly reached out to take Lisa’s information.
The girl in the cover photo was very beautiful, a classic beauty with a radiant smile like sunshine.
As he opened the documents, Tom Fritz wasn’t very surprised. The girl had graduated from Columbia University, liked traveling and reading, and watched documentaries every month.
The information showed she had a regular routine, maintaining early to bed and early to rise since elementary school.
Although Tom Fritz didn’t skim through quickly, he didn’t read in detail either. He glanced at the documents, casually flipping through them.
His father stood by the desk, waiting for him to finish reading.
“What impression do you have of this young lady?” his father asked when Tom was almost done.
Tom Fritz answered while reading, “She is very assertive and has strong focus, maintaining high self-discipline. She has excellent communication skills and can control her emotions well. She has her passions, is very independent, and has long-term plans for her future. She consistently works on self-improvement and reads daily.”
So impressive?
Even Williams was momentarily stunned. He had seen the documents but hadn’t read them in detail.
“So?” his father asked with interest. “Such an outstanding girl doesn’t pique your interest at all?”
“Feelings are about fate,” Tom Fritz closed the documents and replied to his father. “There should be love that leads to marriage, not an age that dictates marriage.”
Williams smiled. “Save that line for your grandmother.” He looked at his son and then turned to leave.
Tom wasn’t worried at all; he would say the same thing to his grandmother. Was he really going to marry her?
After his father left, he picked up his cup and took another sip of pudding.
He hadn’t forgotten what his teacher had said-the only hope for his past thesis was in his email. He picked up his phone and opened a message from his assistant with Jimmy’s number.
He copied the number and dialed it. The ringtone was a heart-wrenching song-
Listening to the lyrics reminded him of that round-faced boy from high school, who was probably now a pillar of some family.
“Hello? Who is this?”
When the ringtone ended, a slightly hoarse male voice came through.
“Hello, is this Jimmy?” Tom asked gently.
“Yes,” came the puzzled reply. “Who are you?” The voice was unrecognizable.
“I’m Tom Fritz, a high school classmate. Do you remember me?”
“Tom Fritz?” Jimmy paused for a few seconds. “Of course! Young Master Fritz, our class’s most famous rich kid. What can I do for you?”
