If it took me becoming a beast, becoming the man I was before her to get into Half Moon that’s what I was going to do. My thirst for blood had been appeased but I couldn’t stop now.
In the corner of my eye, someone was attempting to scramble away. Sighing, I turned towards him, ready to take him out when something pierced my back. I grunted as pain shot out from the wound and down my back.
I reached behind me and gripped the bastard by the neck. Yanking him forward until I felt his claws leave my body. I didn’t think twice as I tossed him towards the sniveling creature on the floor.
I watched as they collided and fought with each other to get as far away from me as possible. They scrambled to crawl over the other, stopping the other from getting away and keeping themselves in the same place.
I took my time walking toward them, only coming to a stop when I stood over their bodies. Leaning down, I wrapped my hands around two legs and pulled. The movement was fast and harder than I had meant.
The movement was fast and harder than I meant. I watched as they were ripped clean off, blood gushed out as his screams pierced the air. Still, he scrambled to get away, his body wiggled around as his fingers dug into the grass.
The man under him was panicked as he tried to push him off. His eyes were wide, his mouth forming an o, and his skin was pale from fear. He started screaming too and I cracked my neck.
They were being so damn loud. I threw his legs to the side and squatted down so that I hovered above them. Running my bloodstained hands through my hair as I took a deep breath.
I lifted the one without legs by the shirt and punctured his face with my fist. Once, his nose broke with a little crack, twice, his eyes popped, three times until his jaw broke and hung wide open.
The one under him was crying at this point. I couldn’t find it in me to feel bad for him. I pulled his friend off of him and dropped him beside him. His eyes stared at his friend, even as I gripped his face with my hand.
I’m sure I looked like a nightmare and that was okay. This was who I was without her. I was lost, vicious, and hopeless. Without her, I was lost. My thumb and pinky held onto his jaw and I lifted his head up off the ground.
Finally, his eyes turned to me. I looked into his fear-filled eyes before smashing his head into the ground. He cried out as I did it again and again. The sickening crack of the back of his head sounded followed by a mushy sound letting me know he was down.
Releasing him, I looked up and searched for my nearest enemies. When I found none, my gaze darted to the next wall of enemies. They were staring at me and I smirked at them as realization hit.
They weren’t hesitating, no, what I saw was fear staring back at me. I knew that look more than I knew the back of my hand. Good, they should be afraid. I stood to my feet and straightened my back.
They could try and run but I wasn’t going to let them or anyone else get away tonight. I stepped toward them and a couple of them were smart enough to move back. Some weren’t deterred and rushed me.
I dodged the one on the right’s claws and snapped the one on the left’s neck. It was like he caved in on himself as he fell to the floor. Turning to the one on the right, I grabbed his left arm, dug my nails deep, and ripped it clean off.
The other two that had taken a few steps back, sprang for me as the one I’d just de-armed fell to the ground. I decapitated one of the two using my claws, blood gushed out and slid down my face.
I wiped the blood from my face as I turned to the last of the two men. Lifting my knee, I slammed down with my heel and he groaned as my foot connected with his balls. His eyes watered as he fell to his knees.
Standing above him, I dipped my chin and looked down at him. He started to beg for his life. His pleading fell on deaf ears as I gripped his chin and head. With one hard twist, I snapped his neck and watched as he fell backward.
I’m winning, I’m making my way through them. I’m at least halfway through the men at the border. I can feel the excitement as it starts to spread through my body. I feel hopeful at the thought of being able to walk through Half Moon with fewer warriors to worry about.
I cry out as a sharp pain stabs my heart, almost like a dagger has been thrust into it over and over again. It’s painful and I grip my chest in an effort to alleviate the pain. For a minute, I’m blinded, I’m weakened.
I’m blind in front of a wall of enemy warriors. I should be panicking, I should be worried but all I feel is fear for my mate. All of the worst possible scenarios run through my mind and I pray to the Goddess that she’s okay.
“I know you,” a gruff voice said from the darkness.
When I regained my vision, I was on my knees in front of someone. He towered over me and as I squinted up at him, I made out brown hair, a large scar running across his face, and a beard. I didn’t know who the fuck this guy was. Before I could ask, his knee came forward and everything went black.
