Since Liam had walked it, he hadn’t looked at me, or Shane. His eyes were downcast. Devin made a noise by my side and when I turned to him, I didn’t miss the look of clear disapproval on his face as he glared at Liam in the doorway.
“What are you doing here? I clearly told you to stay clear of the packhouse. I gave you tasks to do,” Devin said.
He’s in full Beta mode and I’m caught off guard by the tone of his voice. Liam is one of them, always has been. I’m curious about what could have brought about this animosity that I’m hearing.
“Yes, Beta. I’m aware. Alpha Shane instructed me to get the car since you were preoccupied,” Liam said. He kept his eyes on the ground as he spoke. Devin let out a stressful-sounding sigh and looks at Shane.
“We talked about this, Alpha,” Devin said.
“You were doing something important,” Shane said as his hand caressed up and down my back. “I wanted the car ready for when she came down. Is there a problem, Beta?” Shane asked.
“No, Alpha. Liam…” Devin trailed off as his eyes landed on me. My gaze returned to Liam as he shifted from one foot to the other.
“Liam’s going to be our driver today. You’ll take the rest of the night off and be our guard. I’m not in the mood to worry about possible threats. Ady is going to have my full attention tonight,” Shane said as he let me go.
“Yes, Alpha,” Devin was not pleased by the turn of events. He glared at Liam before heading for the door. Liam turned and followed close behind. Shane’s arm wrapped around my waist as he led me out the door.
I could help but whistle when we stopped in front of an all-black Mercedes-AMG G-Class SUV. Twenty-two-inch wheels that complement the body accents in matte black and vertical chrome grille bars evoke the Mercedes-AMG racing heritage. She was lifted and massive. This car was far from cheap.
“Like her? She’s my newest addition,” Shane growled in my ear.
“Do I?” I laugh. “She’s a beauty.”
Liam jumped into the driver’s side and turned her on. Devin sighed and hopped into the passenger’s side. Shane walked over and pulled open the door for me. Offering me his hand, I reached out and took it as I sat inside.
The door closed and I watched as he disappeared and reappeared on the other side of the car. The door swung open and he slid into the seat next to me. His scent wafting through. the car and filling my scenes as he closed the door behind him.
I held my hands in front of me nervously. I don’t know where we were going. Where we headed out of Half Moon territory? No, I doubt he’d take me far when it hadn’t been long since I’d arrived.
I jumped as Shane’s hand rested on the exposed skin of my thigh. My eyes stared down at his fingers as they wrapped around and squeezed. When I looked up at him, he was staring straight.
He wasn’t showing any signs of being up to no good, so I tried to push the suspicion aside as we drove. We sat in comfortable silence. Liam and Devin weren’t speaking and I couldn’t help but look back and forth between the two.
Shane proved to be on his best behavior when we pulled up to a place I’d never been to. I wasn’t sure I ever remembered it being around. Maybe it had gone up during the year I was gone and Alpha Joshua was still in power.
We were parked in front of a strip of stores. There was a boutique, an antique shop, a coffee shop, and this restaurant. Shane hopped out and I stepped out as he opened the door. My heels clacked as I stood.
The name of the place read ‘The Iron Pot’. From the title alone, I couldn’t figure out what kind of food it was. Was it French, American, or Asian? The windows were tinted black and I couldn’t see in.
“Keep an eye out,” Shane ordered.
“Yes, Alpha,” his friends answered in unison.
Shane’s warm hand enveloped mine and I was pulled forward as he led me to the door. Large black wooden doors that towered over the two of us gave way and I gasped as the restaurant unfolded in front of me.
Tall wooden archways stretched above the room. A vein of lights weaved its way through the wooden archway and gave off a warm glow. They hung down but not far enough to be anywhere near the tops of the heads of customers.
There were maybe eight booths that filled the large space. The booths themselves were huge and I knew I would like like a doll sitting on them. The booths were blue and soft velvet, small golden circles decorated the edges of the seat.
It was spacious and there was more than enough privacy in each booth. What made this place even better was there wasn’t a person in sight, we had the whole place to ourselves. The wonderful smell of food filled the air.
Shane led us to a table in the middle of the restaurant. I took a seat in the beautiful dark blue booth. Looking up, the top of my booth ran up, up, up. Shane took a seat opposite of me, leaning forward in his booth.
His elbows hit the table and his hands cradled his chin as he stared at me. His eyes were bright with mischief and I couldn’t help but meet his vibe. I forced myself to relax against the back of my booth and smiled back at him.
“Is this place new?” I asked.
“Yeah, they’re the best place in town now. I haven’t had a chance to dine in yet but Devin got me some food from here yesterday and it was to die for.”
