Adea
When my feet hit the landing, I scanned the room for him. There’s a handful of people scattered around the room. There is one staff member present who is rearranging a vase of flowers. When my eyes land on him across the room, I relax. I’ve never been more relieved in my life to see Shane. Devin is not the best company and I’m so ready to be off of his arm. Receiving threats, or promises all day isn’t my favorite thing to do.
The man I came here to kill looks like a model straight out of a magazine. You know, one of those motorcycle ones with the shirtless guy on the front? The one where the model sits with their legs on both sides of the motorcycle, their legs wide and muscular, their hands tatted and tightly gripping the handle as he stares the camera straight in the eye? Making it look like he’s staring through your soul and leaving you hot and bothered?
I hate how my breath hitches at the sight of him. Shane is oozing with sex appeal, he looks like someone picked out his wardrobe for him. He’s chosen a black dress shirt that isn’t buttoned.
The shirt hangs loose and I get a flash of a piercing, a tatted chest, and taut muscle. He runs his hand through his tousled hair. His arm muscles flexed with the movement. His hair is no longer unruly and wild, it’s been gelled back. The curls behave until you get to the tips of his hair that rests at his nape where they curl defiantly.
He’s wearing black slacks that are fitted to his body, the powerful muscles of his thighs push against the fabric as he turns, he’s got on a black belt and I don’t miss the matching Gucci logo on the front of it that makes it look like we planned it. To finish off his ensemble he’s wearing a loose white t-shirt.
His piercings were visible through the sheer material. They always caught my eye. The edge of a tattoo peeked just above the sheer material and I wondered what it was. Looking up, I was caught by those dark obsidian eyes that were pleased.
Shane left me breathless. His gaze trailed down my marked neck, my exposed shoulder, and over the thin material that only lifted and put my breasts on display. His eyes drank in my curves.
Greedily, his eyes darted to my legs and thighs as Devin and I neared him. He stared at me so intensely, as if he were ingraining everything about me to memory. I felt his touch everywhere his eyes looked.
“Sorry for the delay, alpha,” Devin said as he dipped his chin. “Beka demanded perfection. She said you would appreciate the extra time and effort she put in.” Shane didn’t speak but a low sound of approval rumbled in his chest. It was the only telltale sign that he heard him.
As we walked toward Shane, he met us in the middle. He reached out and grabbed a strand of my hair. Holding my gaze, I held my breath as he lifted it to his lips and kissed it. I waited with bated breath for his next move.
Blinking, I almost missed it as he closed the distance between us. His hand wrapped around my wrist and all too easily, he pulled me into his space. My chest squished against his hard one as he lowered his face to my neck.
Goosebumps broke out as he inhaled seductively. He was all musk and sin. Shane was the forbidden fruit you wanted a taste of even though it was laced with poison. You couldn’t help but be curious.
Was he sweet inside or rotten? From everything he’s done and put me through, I would expect him to be rotten. With all the surprises I’ve been hit with since arriving… it’s made me wonder if he would be sweet.
Enough! Shaking that thought from my mind, I internally yell at myself. No, I don’t want to sit here wondering about Shane. Why would I want to know anything about him? I’m here to plunge a sword through his chest.
Images of what he’s shown me since I arrived cause my brows to furrow. Why am I thinking about how he tastes or how he is deep down under all of those layers he hinds under? It’s the change of scenery, it’s being back here. It’s got me all confused.
A cough behind us pulled me from my thoughts and had me turning to look behind me. Devin was staring at us like we needed to get a room. My cheeks flushed and I looked away from him.
Shane grumbled into the crook of my neck telling him to fuck off but Devin only laughed. The arm around me squeezed me tight and I was hesitant but followed through. My hands slid up his arms and he sighed.
The front door opened and I jumped and turned for the door as if I’d been caught committing a crime. Deep down, I knew I had. My heart was beating angrily in my chest. I needed to pull myself together.
I was surprised when I found another familiar face standing at the entrance. Liam looked exactly the same as he had the last time I’d seen him in the hallways of Trenton High School. Only, he was bigger.
He’d always been the smaller of the three but he had definitely bulked up in the last year. Not only had he been the smallest but he had been the nicest of their trio. He didn’t approve of their games.
He never joined in on bullying or harassing me. Sometimes, he would even give me an apologetic smile but now that I look back on it, I saw it a hell of a lot differently. Liam witnessed everything and did nothing about it. In my eyes, that was the same as participating.
