“Well, there was another reason I came up here,” Shane said, distracting me from my thoughts. Before my mind could go off spouting off a whirlwind of possible reasons. Shane motioned with his hand towards the one wall that didn’t have any paintings on it.
I’d been so enamored with all of the paintings, I hadn’t seen the large wooden wardrobe. It had to be twice the size of the dresser I had back on Desert Moon. There were intricate designs and swirls cut into the wood.
I followed him until we stood in front of the large doors. Shane reached out and gripped the handles. Pulling them open, we were met with a blur of colors. Everything from fancy dresses to jeans and comfortable leggings hung on the racks.
“I told you I’m taking you out. That means a date. This-”
“What is all this, Shane?” I asked.
“These are your clothes.”
“Why do you have clothes for me here in this room?” Should I even be surprised? I’m not sure if I’m more surprised at the fact that he has clothes for me or by the fact that I’m even surprised. Shane blinks slowly as he stares at me.
“Because it’s your room. I had a few of the rogues work on it when I took over. An old… friend went shopping for the clothes and the rogues built it.”
“I still don’t get why-”
“You’re my person, Ady. Why wouldn’t I have gotten this space ready for you?” Shane asked.
Shane’s eyes glazed over and I knew he was mind-linking someone. When he didn’t come out right away, I fingered through the clothes. It’s unsettling, how quickly he got all of these things done.
I have been living happily with my mate for the last year. Meanwhile, Shane has been doing all of this. The love seat in his office, the trail into the woods, the paintings, the room, the wardrobe, and the clothes.
“Someone is coming here to help you dress and get ready. I’m going to go to my room and get dressed. As much as I’d like to go in sweats and a t-shirt, it wouldn’t fit the dress code for where I want to take you. Plus, I’ve been dying to see you all dressed up for me since the Crescent Moon Ball,” Shane said.
“And what’s the dress code?” I asked.
Ignoring me, he took a step forward and wrapped his large hand around my wrist. He pulled me forward and I practically flew toward him. I crashed into his chest with an oomph. His body molded with mine, every inch of hardness welcomed my soft curves.
“I don’t care what color you wear. I just want to see you in a dress. Wear one for me,” Shane said. It almost sounded as if he was asking instead of demanding. He leaned down and pressed his face to the crook of my neck. He ran his nose up my sensitive skin. I was a bundle of nerves as he inhaled my scent.
“Damn the Goddess,” Shane said as he took a step back. “You feel all too perfect against my body. I’ll meet you downstairs when you’re done. If I stay any longer, I’ll take you against that painting you love so much.”
My mouth fell open. No, he did not. I wanted to laugh. He said it as if it was he who decided what we did and when. The audacity of this man. I shook my head and glared at him.
He reached out and grabbed my hand. I stared at him in confusion as he brought my hand to his lips. No fucking way was he about to-He pressed his lips to my knuckles. He was being so… charming. The words tasted like poison on my lips.
“I’ll see you downstairs in thirty minutes. Don’t keep me waiting.”
Dropping my hand, Shane turned from me and headed to the door. I lifted my fist into the air and pretended to hit him as he grabbed the doorknob. He opened the door and without another glance back, he was gone.
For the first time since I’d arrived at Half Moon pack, I was alone. I stood for a moment longer staring at the door where Shane disappeared through. Snapping out of my trance, I faced the wardrobe.
He’d mentioned that someone would be coming here. I wondered who it would be. I was sure it was a woman. Shane didn’t trust many men and I doubt he trusted them enough to put them in charge of helping me get ready.
Would it be someone I knew or was it possibly a rogue? Did he come across a lot of female rogues out there? Or a family of rogues? Like my family and I had been? Would he possibly send Mavy?
At the thought of Mavy coming, I turned back toward the door. My eyes stared a hole into the door while I waited. I should be looking at the dresses and picking one out but my heart beat a little faster at the idea of seeing my old friend.
I picked up the sound of footsteps as they made their way down the hall. They weren’t moving fast and a part of me hoped Mavy would be excited to see me. Unless she had come to blame me for Shane then she would be hesitant to face me.
It felt like my stomach was in my mouth and I dug my toes into the bottom of my shoes while I waited. The anxiety had me tensing up and my nerves had me gritting my teeth. The door handle turned and I had to stop myself from crying out.
I took a deep breath and exhaled as the door pushed open. The woman who walked through the door was the last person I expected to see. Just seeing her face instantly made me angry. Why had he sent her?
