Jaxon stood frozen, his face a picture of shock and horror as he watched Ruby crumble right
before his eyes.
His gaze was fixed upon her as he fought with all the overwhelming emotions that were brewing within him.
He couldn’t believe what he just heard. How is it possible that something so big was happening
and he didn’t have a clue?
Jaxon felt like a failure and Ruby’s cries got louder. His hands trembled as he felt the need to
console and protect her. His heart ached as tears kept streaming down her face, and the sound of her sobs pierced his heart.
Jaxon’s heart started beating rapidly, the sound echoed in his ears and his mind was reeling with a thousand ways to get back at the person that caused his beloved so much pain.
Ruby started to feel light-headed, and her legs shook as she fell to the floor. She screamed in pain and Jaxon rushed to her side. He knelt before her and pulled her into his arms as she cried.
Jaxon felt helpless. He had failed to protect her.
His eyes were blazing with anger and animosity as he gently caressed her back in a soothing way.
He needed to know how everything started and the name of the person that had the
audacity to blackmail her.
How dare they touch his wife? He fought the urge to scream and lash out at the unknown enemy that had caused Ruby so much pain in the most brutal way possible.
He was going to enjoy hunting down the person and giving them a worse punishment than death.
He gently pulled away from the hug and cupped Ruby’s crying face.
“It’s going to be fine, baby, but I need to know what happened. How did it start? When did it start, and who is behind it? I need to know everything, Gem.” Jaxon said gruffly and more tears ran down Ruby’s face as she remembered the phone call and how her own sister planned everything to destroy her.
“Shhh… calm down Gem and talk to me.” Jaxon’s words were laced with worry, and Ruby’s heart clenched in pain. She hated making him worry about her.
She felt like Jaxon has done more than enough for her so she doesn’t want to add to his burden.
She was supposed to be his helpmate but it looked like all she did was bring additional drama and stress to his life. Ruby cried harder as she thought about this.
“I’m so sorry… It was all my fault! If I had been more careful then maybe she wouldn’t have found the papers and started this whole thing.” Jaxon’s interest was piqued.
“What papers Gem? How can it be your fault when you are the victim?” Jaxon felt sad, he hated how timid she had become in a blink of an eye. He couldn’t imagine the pain and pain she had endured before he came to her rescue.
“It was Kim.” Jaxon’s jaw clenched in anger and his veins popped as he stared at her intently.
“She found my copy of our contract in my room back home and she threatened to release it to the press if I didn’t give her a 50 thousand dollars. I tried so hard to think of a way to get the money and I ended up selling the diamond necklace you gifted me.” Ruby angrily wiped off her tears and tightened her hold around his waist as she pressed her face into his chest.
Her sobs continued and her tears made a wet patch on his shirt.
Jaxon was livid. So that shameless bitch was the one responsible for all this? He should have know, she was the only one foolish enough to try and play with fire.
He didn’t understand how one woman could be so bitter and heartless to the only person who provided for her and gave her life. She was an ingrate and Jaxon hated ungrateful people.
“What happened after that?” Jaxon asked in a clipped tone, his voice was full of venom and Ruby shivered even though she knew it was not directed at her.
“I wired the money to her and she asked me to come to the hotel, she said she wanted us to talk
and when I opposed her she threatened to use the contract to ruin your reputation and I had to go… I got to the hotel room and didn’t find her when I got there, I tried calling her, but instead that man came in and rendered me unconscious. I woke up naked with that man staring at me.” Ruby trembled in his arms as she recounted the story.
Each word was a sob, her voice was filled with pain and sorrow and Jaxon felt like burning Kim and her accomplice. Too bad he was already dead.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Jaxon angrily yelled and Ruby jumped in fright in his arms. He instantly regretted shouting at her and held her gently.
“I didn’t mean to yell at you, I’m sorry. I just hate being kept in the dark and I’m angry because look at you, she did this to you…”Jaxon trailed off.
“She threatened to leak the news and destroy your business if I told you. How could I allow that to happen when I know how hard you worked to get to where you are now? I won’t be able to stand the guilt if something happened to you or your company because of my carelessness.”
“You could have still told me. I would have found a better way to take care of it.” Jaxon sighed.
“I was so scared, I didn’t know what to do, I didn’t want to bother you and add to your burdens. You have done so much for me and I wanted to take care of it for you, for us. But I didn’t know that she had such a wicked plan in mind when I went to that hotel…” Jaxon could only tighten his arms around her as she cried. He should have killed Kim the moment she drugged him.
