It had been several days since the incident with Kim and Jaxon had refused to speak to Ruby. He had refused to utter even a single word to her. He didn’t look at her if it wasn’t necessary and he avoided staying in the same room as her.
With each passing day, Ruby felt like she was being suffocated like her breath had been stolen from her. She felt like she had used her own hands to destroy the relationship that they had worked so hard to build.
She felt pained whenever Jaxon passed her without saying a word. Her husband who used to worship the ground she walked on was now ignoring her.
Ruby’s heart had shattered a thousand times as she sobbed uncontrollably. Her whole body shook as she cradled her head between her legs and cried.
What if Jaxon wanted to leave her? Ruby shook her head as she cried.
She can’t live one more day without hearing his voice, without him accepting her apology. She felt so stupid and useless. Jaxon had never asked her for anything and he had been loyal to her even when their relationship was just on paper. She felt foolish for not trusting him completely.
She felt foolish for hurting him so deeply.
But she had made up her mind to talk to him no matter what it took. The silence was killing her. She couldn’t stand it anymore. She wanted her husband back.
She wanted them to talk things out like adults. She wanted to apologize to him and there was no stopping her today.
She wiped her tears and decided to get ready and wait for Jaxon to come back home.
It was evening and Jaxon had just gotten back from work. Ruby was patiently waiting on the couch and a smile lit up her face when she saw him.
She hurriedly walked up to him with her arms wide open. She was about to engulf him in a hug when he stepped aside and continued walking towards the stairs.
Ruby felt a pang in her chest. She was hurt by the rejection. She stood before him and Jaxon sighed as he touched the bridge of his nose in irritation.
“We need to talk.” Jaxon looked at her with a blank stare.
“Please! I need you to talk to me… I know I was wrong and I should have trusted you. I’m sorry.” Ruby whimpered as she tightly clutched her shirt in her fists.
Jaxon sighed and brushed past her.
“Please talk to me, I can’t stand your silence anymore. Yell at me, curse me, throw insults at me but don’t ignore me. I feel like I am dying inside! I can’t stand not talking to you.” Ruby’s eyes burned as she tightly wrapped her arms around Jaxon’s waist.
Jaxon’s face was as cold as ice as he stubbornly ignored Ruby’s pleas for attention. He still couldn’t get over the pain of getting his heart stomped on. His pain felt like a heavy load on his shoulders, the pain of her mistrust was too much to bear.
“Just talk to me… please.” Ruby whimpered like a kicked puppy. Jaxon sighed as he gently loosened her hold on him.
Ruby’s eyes burned with tears as she watched him walk away from her. Her mind was a jumbled mess as she stared at his retreating.
“No! I’d rather die than keep living in silence. I can’t take it anymore!” Ruby screamed and ran to the kitchen.
Her breathing was erratic as she grabbed the kitchen knife, she had a crazed look in her eyes as she brought it to her neck.
Jaxon felt like his breath had been knocked out of him as their eyes met. He felt alarmed as softly walked up to her.
“You have two choices Jaxon, it’s either you talk to me or watch me kill myself.” Tears streamed down Ruby’s face as her fist tightly held the knife to her neck.
Jaxon kept quiet.
“Why won’t you talk to me? Your silence is killing me!” Ruby started to sob uncontrollably.
“I can see that you’ve made your choice. Since you don’t want to talk to me I’d rather die!” Ruby screamed and pressed the knife to her knife.
Jaxon’s heart started beating rapidly in his chest as he watched the knife pierce her skin. He felt like he had been stabbed in the chest as he saw her blood on the knife.
“What the hell are you doing? Are you out of your mind?” Jaxon angrily yelled as he took slow steps towards her.
“Stay back! Yes, I’m out of my mind! I’m going crazy because you have refused to speak to me.” Ruby’s mind was blinded by pain as she glared at him. Jaxon stopped in his tracks.
“Put the knife away Gem.” Jaxon felt helpless as her blood trailed down her neck
“You’ve suddenly gotten your voice? I have been begging and groveling for your attention for the past how many days but you didn’t even spare me a glance. Why should I listen to you now?”
“Please drop the knife Gem.” Jaxon pleaded. He spoke softly as though he was talking to a wounded animal. He didn’t want to aggravate her and push her.
“And what will I get in return?”
“Anything you want, but please stop hurting yourself Gem.” Jaxon softly whispered.
“If that’s what you want I’ll give it to you on one condition.” Jaxon nodded his head in agreement without hearing the rest of the sentence.
“You have to talk to me.” Ruby sadly mumbled.
“I’ll do whatever you want Gem, just drop it.” Jaxon pleaded in a soft voice.
Ruby dropped the knife on the kitchen counter and a warm body immediately engulfed her.
Jaxon held her tightly and nuzzled his nose on her rose-scented hair earning a sigh of relief from her.
“Are you a psycho? Why would you hurt yourself like that?” Jaxon angrily growled as he tightened his hold around her.
“I’m sorry,” Ruby mumbled into his warm chest.
