Ophelia peeped out the window as a worried look crossed her face. Kim looked through another window and caught dozens of paparazzi vehicles on the road.
Her plan had worked better than she hoped. Now all she had to do was wait then call Ruby on what was happening to her, and boom, she would get what she wanted.
The paparazzi outside their door seemed to have made a deal with one another. They no longer shouted all at once but took turns yelling questions. Questions that both she and Ophelia heard.
“How’s your relationship with your sister?!”
“What about the relationship between your sister and Jaxon?”
“Will we soon see a baby in the mix?”
There were a lot more questions that were asked but these were a few she had picked up and could remember.
Frankly, Kim found their shouting and questions exhausting after only ten minutes of listening. It was now clear to Ophelia that the press was here for her but Ophelia hadn’t asked her anything about it.
Kim thought that Ophelia assumed the press had uncovered more information on Ruby and this time around it was her name that was in the mix.
And she let Ophelia think just that. There was no reason for her to know that the press had gotten a little “help” from her.
Just across the room from her, she heard Ophelia’s troubled mutterings.
“This is bad, this is so bad. What are we going to do?” Ophelia asked with worry evident in her voice.
“You need to calm down first and we’ll think,” Kim told her. Ophelia made a face at her then sighed.
“I can’t, okay? I don’t think you realize how bad these people can get when they have an objective. They could be here all day AND all night just trying to get an interview from you. And that’s not fun, trust me.” Ophelia explained.
What Ophelia didn’t know was that was exactly what Kim wanted and it would give her the basis to call Ruby without Ruby working her way around not letting her stay with her and Jaxon.
“I understand.” She reassured Ophelia. Another ten minutes passed as Ophelia all but paved a path on the floor as she paced back and forth.
Kim was sure that Ophelia had checked the windows at least twenty times already as if the press would break in. She guessed it was completely irrelevant to Ophelia that they were staying on a high floor in a multi-story building complex.
“Okay, the press isn’t leaving and we’re just here like sitting ducks,” Kim said and Ophelia nodded in agreement.
“I think we might need to call Ruby, I can’t seem to think of any other way to get the press away,” Kim suggested. She had been dying to say that since she came back home, but she had to play her part well.
“I think that’s a good idea.” Ophelia agreed and then took a seat on one of the couches.
Kim dialed Ruby’s number and then waited. Ruby picked up on the second ring and Kim immediately went on about what was happening.
“Are you sure they are here for you?” Ruby asked her through the line and she nearly rolled her eyes.
“Yes Ruby, my name as well as yours and Jaxon’s were mentioned.” She told her.
“How long have they been there?”
“Uh, hold on a second,” she told Ruby then mouthed the question to Ophelia who held up two fingers.
“They’ve been here for two hours or so.”
“And there are a lot of them?” Kim had gotten tired of answering all these questions but she had to endure to get what she wanted.
“Yes, and more keep coming. Ophelia is worried they might break the door down if they get angry enough.” She told Ruby and from where Ophelia sat, she scowled at Kim and Kim smiled in return.
“And I’m starting to get worried too, the pounding on the door is already getting out of hand.” Lie. But she told herself it was for a good cause.
“So is there anything you can do about this?” Kim asked after she didn’t hear anything from Ruby.
“Um, yeah. I’ll call Jaxon and I’m sure he’ll be able to get rid of them.”
“But wouldn’t they just come back?” She rushed out. She didn’t just want them to get rid of the paparazzi, she also wanted them to move her away. That was her goal.
“That’s true. I’m sure he’ll provide housing as well until everything blows over.” Ruby said and she sighed. Okay, they were getting somewhere.
“I’ll call you later,” Ruby said then ended the call.
After the call, Ruby went online and saw a picture of her and Kim plastered on every news outlet. She picked a random outlet and scrolled through the comment section.
There were some nice comments from people saying how she and her sister were so beautiful and how they looked so much alike. But others were saying she had abandoned her sister at the first sign of money.
Ruby frowned at these comments because they weren’t true and she wondered where they got that from. She had already entered panic mode and decided to call Jaxon. The sooner the situation was fixed, the better for her and Kim.
“Jaxon?”
“What is it Gem?”
“Something’s happened. Can you come home?” There was a pause on the other end then Jaxon said.
“I’ll be there in thirty.” He ended the call and Ruby was left with her thoughts.
True to his word, Jaxon had showed up after thirty minutes and Ruby recounted everything that Kim had told her. She showed him the picture and the comments under it and Jaxon sighed.
“Give me a moment,” Jaxon told her then he dialed a number and started firing instructions at whoever was on the other end. He ended that call just to make another to someone else.
“I’ve called about it and the paparazzi should be leaving now. You can call your sister if you’d like to confirm.”
Ten minutes later, she did and Kim told her that at least half of them had gone. Another hour passed and Jaxon sent a car to pick up Kim and Ophelia and drop them off at a hotel to stay in the meantime.
“I think I should go and see them,” Ruby said.
“No. It could be dangerous and besides, give them time to settle in. You can go see them tomorrow.” Jaxon suggested and she sighed.
