Chapter 85
She didn’t know how much time had passed as she fainted. What she did know was how scared she felt. Ruby had thought the height of her fear had ended with the goons who had kidnapped her.
They had been huge, and she wasn’t exaggerating. They were both incredibly tall as well, each one surpassing six feet easily. They were built like rugby players and the tattoos they had had seriously intimidated her.
They hadn’t physically harmed her yet. Which she was thankful for but she didn’t know how far that thanks would go.
They hadn’t said much either, they had simply sat opposite her in the car and pointed their guns at her. Though one has said,
“Co-operate miss and nothing’s gonna happen to ya.” The one with the buzz cut and tattooed arms had said.
The one with a completely shaved head and impossibly large hands had just stared at her.
They had taken her to a huge house that was certainly not the type where hostages were kept and that was where her heart had nearly combit in fear. They were more of these goons. About three or so.
They were all incredibly tall with various tattoos all over their bodies. They all had mean expressions on their faces and Ruby thought they wanted to kill her.
Her heart was hammering in her chest as she looked around. Tears stung her eyes and rolled down her cheeks in steady streaks.
Just then, a man came through the door. He was tall, slender and had an air of authority. Ruby immediately guessed that he was the boss. The man came to stand right in front of her and stared.
Ruby felt so bare under his gaze as his eyes roamed over every inch of her.
Her tears continued to fall and she imagined that this might just be the last day she had on earth.
The man crossed his hands and regarded her with hooded eyes.
“You are certainly prettier up close my dear,” he drawled out and Ruby thought she could hear a hint of a Russian accent.
“No wonder Jaxon has kept you to himself for so long.” The man added after a pause.
“Where are my manners!” He exclaimed in a dry tone.
“Let me introduce myself, I’m Nikolai and you’re Ruby.” The man- Nikolai gave a mock bow when he stopped talking.
Nikolai suddenly lost his friendly demeanor and his lips stretched into a thin line. He pulled out a gun from his holster and pointed it at her.
A well of tears erupted from Ruby. Her face was red and scrunched up, her nose had also become runny and she found it hard not to quiver when the gun came dangerously close to her.
“Don’t cry,” Nikolai groaned, irritated.
“You’re going to be fine. I’m not going to kill you- at least not now.” He added and the tension she felt deep inside skyrocketed.
“You know my dear, you’re very lucky you married Jaxon, if not…” Nikolai made a slitting throat motion with his thumb moving against his throat.
“I wouldn’t have hesitated to kill you.” He finished. Nikolai tutted then stared at her once more.
“Though it would be a shame if I were to kill you. You are much too pretty for that.” Nikolai whispered sympathetically.
“It really is lucky that you’re Jaxon’s wife. Or things might not have ended up well for you.” He told her with a sinister smile.
“Or should I just kill you?” Nikolai asked himself with a thoughtful expression on his face. He once again pointed the gun at her and this time, it was just a few inches away from her.
Ruby’s tears intensified and she struggled against her restraints. Her mouth was taped so her pleads came out muffled.
“Enough struggling.” He said impatiently. Ruby’s heart was pounding so hard in her chest that it might as well have burst out.
Nikolai was about to say something else when another man stepped in.
He was slightly shorter than Nikolai but had broader shoulders. Aside from their scary look, they were both good looking.
His face held a stern expression as he approached. He came to stand beside Nikolai then peered at her.
“So glad of you to join us Mikhail.” Nikolai said with a smile. He clasped a hand on Mikhail’s shoulder and gave him a firm pat.
“How could I not?” He told Nikolai. His firm gaze returned to her and she again felt so bare.
“Jaxon’s gonna lose it when he sees her like this.” Mikhail voiced out.
When he mentioned Jaxon, it gave her hope that he would find her soon. She didn’t want to die even though Nikolai had said he wouldn’t kill her, one could never be too sure. She just hoped that wherever Jaxon was, that it had to do with coming to rescue her.
“Of course he will when his precious woman is right here.” Nikolai agreed. His voice knocked her out of thinking and she simply sat there, listening to them talk about Jaxon then herself as if she wasn’t even there.
“Jaxon really has become soft.” Mikhail said out of the blue.
“You should see the way he was yelling at me on the phone when I called him. I don’t think I have ever heard him that angry before.” Mikhail added after a moment.
So Jaxon knew who had taken her, Ruby thought. Her hope was growing fiercely by the minute.
“That’s interesting.” Nikolai merely said.
“Jaxon’s a loverboy now. I wonder how far we can go without him snapping completely?” Mikhail asked. Nikolai glanced at her then said,
“She’s crying, tied up and shivering like a dog left out in the rain. Wanna bet if he erupts or not?”
Nikolai suggested with a smile. He turned to Ruby with a smile but it has shifted to become a knowing smirk.
“You know Ruby, you’re free to go.” Nikolai told her. She didn’t know if he was serious or not.
“But you can only leave after the loverboy gets here and takes you with him.” Nikolai told her. Ruby didn’t get what he meant until the room was empty of the guards and Mikhail.
“Well then, enjoy.” Nikolai said, then exited the room, closing the door behind. She was tied up and all alone.
