Chapter 70
Jaxon gently ran his fingers through Ruby’s hair as he stared at her face. She held him tighter as her eyes started to grow heavy and a small smile made its way to her face as Jaxon placed a soft kiss on her forehead.
“Sleep Gem I’m here” Jaxon softly whispered.
Ruby was exhausted and before long her face softened and her tense muscles slowly loosened in Jaxon’s hold.
Jaxon felt relieved as she was finally able to sleep after all that she had gone through today. He knew she had never experienced such violence before and he pitied her, he felt bad for bringing her into his world but it was already too late now.
Ruby has been exposed and there was no way she could leave as easily as she had come in.
He slowly loosened her hold from around him and used a pillow to replace him. He made sure she was properly tucked into the duvet and slowly left the room.
He entered his study room and sat behind the large table. He felt all the anger and frustration from earlier come back in full force and he clenched his jaw as he dialed a number on his phone.
Mikhail picked up the phone on the third ring and Jaxon’s blood boiled as he heard the cheerful voice from the other end of the line.
“Today must be a blessed day.” Mikhail said cheerfully.
“It is indeed a blessed day because if I don’t get a concrete explanation from you as to why my wife was attacked today you will be meeting your creator in the next 24 hours.” Mikhail felt chills go down his spine as he listened to the Jaxon.
“What are you talking about?” Mikhail felt confused.
“You of all people should know that I hate repeating myself, Mikhail.” Jaxon angrily growled.
“I know you are angry right now but I need you to calm down and talk to me clearly.” Jaxon sucked his teeth in annoyance.
“Why was my wife attacked today, Mikhail?” Jaxon asked and Mikhail felt like cold water was poured on him.
“I know what you are thinking but I had no hand in it, I swear.” Mikhail hurriedly said.
“Then who the fuck attacked her? Why was she attacked when said you’re going to put things in check.!” Jaxon angrily shouted and Mikhail trembled in fear.
Mikhail felt as though Jaxon was right in front holding a gun to his head.
“I gave you the shares you asked for and in exchange you were supposed to bury the truth about whose daughter she was so why did you not do your job properly?” Jaxon growled.
“I don’t know why she was attacked but you’ve known me long enough to know that I always carry out the tasks assigned to me well… I’m still working on completely covering it but you know these things take time.” Mikhail pleaded and Jaxon glared at nothing in particular.
“Why the fuck are you still working on it? You know how important this is.” Jaxon slightly raised his voice.
“I know and I’m doing my best to finish this as soon as possible but you know how hard this is. I’m sorry she was attacked, this is a sign that they have gotten a hint and are planning on eliminating her so you need to speed up your protection plan.” Mikhail said and Jaxon sighed because he knew Mikhail was speaking the truth.
“You need to calm down and think clearly. I’ll work on diverting their attention and I’ll try my best to stall them while you set your plans in motion.” Mikhail calmly said.
“You need to stall them, I don’t care to know how you’ll do it but it needs to be done fast. No excuses cause I paid you in full.” Jaxon growled and ended the call.
He ran his hands through his hair and took deep breaths to calm down. Even though he knew it wasn’t Mikhail’s fault and he wasn’t to blame he couldn’t help feeling annoyed at him.
He felt guilty knowing that the only reason why Ruby and her sister were now in danger was because of him. If Ruby had not gotten entangled with him, she would be living as an ordinary girl away from his world and danger.
He dialed a number on his phone and after a few rings a gruff voice answered.
“Hello boss,” The man on the other side said.
“I have a job for you.” Jaxon didn’t feel the need to beat around the bush as this was a very urgent matter that needed immediate attention.
“My wife and her sister are in danger. I need you to get your teammates and watch Kimberly.” Jaxon didn’t really care about Kimberly but he knew how much Ruby loved her sister.
He was aware that if something happened to Kimberly Ruby would be shattered as she was the only family she had left.
He might not like people but he knew all about family ties and familial love.
“Okay boss.” The person replied obediently.
“You must be very alert and mindful. As I said before, her life is in danger so she must not be left alone even for a moment, you must keep her on 24 hour surveillance and get a lady on the team, she is not allowed to be alone even in the lady’s room.” Jaxon seriously warned.
“Do not mess up this job, make sure you protect her with your life.” Jaxon said.
“I’ll notify my team and make all the necessary arrangements. We will be with her in the next one hour just forward all the details boss.” The guy on the other end said.
“Don’t disappoint me.” Jaxon said and hung up. He heard his office door open with a bang and his eyes widened in shock as he saw Ruby standing by the door with a horrified look on her face.
“Why is mine and my sister’s life in danger?” Ruby asked shakily.
