Chapter 41
Ruby stood by the door as she silently watched him. He looked so calm as he drank his sorrows away.
She suddenly began to feel pity towards him as she wondered what he might be going through.
Taking in a deep breath, she took a bold step as she walked into the room.
Jaxon noticed someone walking in as he lifted his head to see who it was. No doubt it would be Ruby.
He scoffed as his eyes met hers, she really has the guts to come back here he thought to himself. She was asking for death and it seemed like she would get that if care was not taken.
“What…”
“Don’t bother driving me out, because I won’t leave” Ruby interrupted just when he was about to speak.
Her eyes scanned the room that was dimly lit. It was the first time she was coming into Jaxon’s room and it screamed of Jaxon. The black curtains, the black bedsheets.
It actually seemed like everything in his life was dark.
She looked around the room as her eyes finally landed on a glass, that was what she was trying to find.
She walked over to collect the cup and she came to sit beside Jaxon, who stared at her in amusement.
“Pour me some..” she demanded holding her cup forward. But Jaxon completely ignored her, as he didn’t even bait an eyelid at it.
Ruby inhaled as she collected the bottle and she poured herself a drink and then went ahead to put herself a drink.
Jaxon stared at her as she did all of this. She still had the guts to come to him after he almost smashed a bottle on her head?
She was forgetting that another bottle was near him and he could easily smash it on her head yet again.
“Whenever I was sad about the death of my parents, Ophelia always made me drink” she chuckled, taking a sip and she felt a burn in her chest.
This was unlike the one she usually drank, it was harsh and could actually knock her up after she took a cup.
“I never asked you!” Jaxon snapped at her as he took a sip of the drink as well.
“I know” she breathed out, taking a few more sips.
“I’m just letting you know. It’s best to drink with someone. It feels more better” she pointed out, but Jaxon did not make any comment as they both remained silent, exchanging a few glasses together.
“It’s best if you loosen up..” she began as their eyes met. Her eyes searched his blue eyes that was devoid of any emotions. He was so good at hiding them. So damn good!
“And who are you to tell me?” He raised a brow at her, as he turned away from Ruby.
“Nana called me” she informed, but Jaxon said nothing as usual.
Nana must have probably told her everything, he thought to himself as he smacked his lips.
“I’m sorry you had to go through that as a child. I really understand..” Ruby uttered softly, as she was scared of pissing him off with her words.
“You sure do” Jaxon scoffed as he poured himself a drink. The contents were halfway gone.
“You seriously didn’t have to go through that as a kid. But you have to understand that none of it is your fault. So let it go…anger isn’t going to solve it. Neither is yelling at me going to help. You can always talk to someone..” Ruby drew out as Jaxon snapped his head at her coldly.
“Do You know what your problem is Ruby?” He began through gritted teeth.
“You feel like you understand everything, but you don’t. So just shut the fuck up!!” He warned harshly as Ruby swallowed.
“I understand Jaxon. I lost my parents as well..”
“But your father never treated you like shit!!” He suddenly snapped at her as Ruby slowly shifted away from him. He was getting angry.
“I know but that doesn’t mean you have to be like him!!” Ruby pointed out, as she tried hard not to raise her voice.
“You keep driving everyone that cares for you away and suffer in silence. You’ll actually feel better if you talk to someone..” Ruby stated as they locked eyes with each other once more.
They suddenly got caught in the moment as Ruby lost herself staring deep into his eyes which held a kind of indescribable feeling.
Jaxon took her hand in his, never breaking the eye contact.
“What have you done to be Ruby?” He asked in a dry raspy voice as Ruby just stared at him in confusion, unable to look away from him.
“Who the hell are you?” He asked again. Everything had been changing ever since she stepped into his life. A lot of things that he didn’t even expect, right from the first time they met.
He was changing, she was changing him and he hated her for that.
He cared about her and he hated her more for that!!
He felt warmth each time he looked at her and it even made him hate her more.
He was never the time to invest in a romantic relationship, he felt nothing toward women. But with Ruby things were just indescribable. And that was the feeling he hated the most.
He wanted to hug her tight as that was the remedy his body needed but he could never bring himself to do that.
He found himself each and every time in an unfamiliar way needing Ruby.
It was definitely not sex as he hadn’t fucked her, YET.
The connection he felt towards her was something he dreaded a lot.
“Why did you come into my life?” He breathed out, never breaking the eye contact with her.
Ruby saw different emotions running through his eyes and she knew he was trying to suppress those emotions.
“Jaxon” she called as she boldly lifted her hand and placed them on both sides of his face.
“You can talk to me if you want to” she whispered as her face was practically a few inches away from his.
She wanted to be there for him. She needed him to know that he was cared for.
She caressed his face slowly as her eyes studied his face. He was the most attractive man she had ever met. Her eyes landed on his lips and she was reminded of that night when she secretly kissed him, now, she wanted to kiss him again, properly. If possible, kiss his pain away. And then she did it, she slowly leaned over as she placed her lips on his.
