Chapter 39
It’s been three days since Ruby’s visit to the hospital and her sister was going to be discharged soon.
Ruby felt more than happy as it seemed like everything in her life was falling back into place.
Even her relationship with Jaxon was far better than before. Though he was still cold to her most of the time, she felt that he had loosened up a bit.
He bought an electric cooker for her to make her own meals, and during the few times he made him, he always made sure to keep a portion for her.
Ruby had just finished freshening up for the evening when she decided to go back downstairs, it was already past seven.
She arrived downstairs and saw Jaxon sitting in his usual spot, the only difference this time was that there was no laptop in front of him, just a bottle of drink that was already gone halfway.
“Hey,” she waved at him as she stepped closer to him.
Jaxon lifted his head from the cup as he looked at her briefly before looking away from her.
“Is everything okay?” Ruby asked in a low voice, though he did not seem okay. He was obviously getting himself drunk and he also held a sullen look on his face.
“Since when did you start to care?” Jaxon asked as he dropped the glass he was holding noisily on the table.
“Uh..,” Ruby stammered, as she totally became lost for words.
“I just….” She drew out, her mouth suddenly going dry as Jaxon’s gaze on her was so intense.
“Get out!” He snapped at her coldly, as he began to fill up his glass once more.
He was not in the mood to speak with anyone, especially not Ruby.
“I don’t understand..” Ruby blurted out, finally getting her tongue back.
“What’s the meaning of all this? I was just asking a harmless question, why answer rudely?” She couldn’t help but ask in confusion.
“You see..” Jaxon began angrily, his eyes redshot as he pointed at her while he spoke.
“I told you to get out of my sight. So get out of my sight!!” He yelled at her as Ruby stepped backward, confused by his sudden outburst.
“You know there’s no need to be rude. You could just simply tell me that you were not in the mood to talk and I would respect myself and leave” she said to him as he scoffed inwardly.
“And who are you for me to say that to?” He fired at her in a cold voice.
“Who do you even think you are?” He questioned, glaring daggers at her.
“I…I..” Ruby began to stammer as it dawned on her that she should have just minded her business and gone to sleep.
“That’s your problem Ruby” he began standing up to his feet.
“You feel you’re important” he blurted out as Ruby opened her eyes in shock.
“What?”
“I’m pretty sure you’re not deaf!!” He snapped at her as Ruby stumbled backward. Now he was acting scary, she only asked a harmless question, now why was he acting up?
“Let me point this to you, you’re not important Ruby..” he deadpanned looking her straight in the eye.
“You’re just a liability to me” he smiled as he gulped down all the contents he had poured in his cup before.
“What?” Ruby muttered in shock.
“You heard me right! I hate everything about you. Even your press is draining, so just get the fuck out of my sight and go to hell. Rot in hell!!!”
“Where’s all of this coming from Jaxon?” Ruby couldn’t help but ask as she fought the urge not to break down into tears.
How could he call her a liability?
“Just because I pity you and make you meals at times does not make us friends. Let that stink in your head!!” He said out word by word, wanting to make sure it really stuck to her head.
“It was all an act of pity, so stop acting like we’re lovers, I can never see myself being with a person like you” he smiled at her, not minding the effect of his words on her.
“Jaxon!!” Ruby cried out as her eyes watered.
“Ruby what?” He yelled back at her.
“I can see it’s already getting to you,” he said as he didn’t fail to notice the way her cheeks warmed up each time he served her. She was such a fool for that.
“I only came here to ask if you were okay and…”
“And I didn’t tell you to ask after me. Who do you even think you are? Huh?”
“You’re just a cheap girl, a waitress by occupation. You have no name, you’re a problem to me, a problem I so much want to get rid of, so just get your shitty self out of my sight. Leave!!” He stated in a stern voice, pointing at the stairs as he gestured for her to leave.
“But Jaxon” Ruby began in a croaked voice, her face already flooded with tears
“I said leave!!!!” He yelled as he suddenly picked up the bottle that was on the table and he threw it at her.
“Arrhh” Ruby screamed at the top of her voice as she used her hands to cover her ears as the bottle landed on the wall behind her, shattering to pieces.
Ruby shakily removed her hands from her ears as she stared at a fuming Jaxon in front of her.
That was a NARROW ESCAPE.
He didn’t look like he threw the bottle at the wall, Jaxon looked like he intended to hit her and actually hated the fact that he missed.
Ruby was still in shock as she couldn’t believe her eyes, when did things get so extreme?
She did not mean to anger him…, what was she even saying? She didn’t do anything wrong.
All she asked was a harmless question.
“Fuck you all!!” Jaxon muttered to himself as he angrily walked out on her.
