After that day when Jade left my house, she never went to see Ashton again.
She locked herself up in her hotel room every day, drinking heavily and isolating herself from the world.
During this time, Ashton tried to reach her multiple times, calling her, but she ignored him.
Eventually, he told Jade that he wanted to commit suicide.
In the past, Jade would have been so worried that she would have rushed to him immediately.
But now, she just responded indifferently, “Oh, if you really don’t want to live, then do whatever you want.”
Ashton didn’t kill himself. Instead, after expressing his love for her, he continued to live.
Jade realized that even if she hadn’t gone to him back then, he wouldn’t have taken his own life.
Later, Ashton hosted a party to celebrate overcoming his illness and starting anew.
Jade didn’t want to go at first, but since the party was being held at the hotel she was staying at, she figured she might as well drop by.
Ashton seemed truly better. He greeted his old friends enthusiastically and no longer only focused on her.
For a moment, Jade felt happy for him.
After all, they had once loved each other passionately, and it had been pitiful to see him so sick that he only remembered her.
Now, he wouldn’t be fixated on her anymore, and even when his illness flared up, he wouldn’t trouble her again.
In just two short months, Jade went from being anxious about him to hoping he would stay away from her.
She finally saw her feelings clearly-she didn’t love Ashton, she loved Corey.
Raising her champagne glass, she sincerely congratulated Ashton: “Congratulations on regaining your memories.”
A flicker of resentment flashed in Ashton’s eyes as he asked her,
“Jade, can we start over? I’ve always loved you-so much that even when I forgot everyone else, I never forgot you.”
Everyone around them cheered, but Jade simply smiled and shook her head.
“No, I’ve got things to do. You all enjoy yourselves.”
But later, something changed, and the two of them suddenly announced that they were getting married.
Ashton was so excited that he flaunted their marriage certificate on every social media platform, broadcasting his happiness to the world.
Jade, on the other hand, didn’t post anything. In fact, she seemed even more haggard than before.
This was why my friend had said she didn’t look happy.
After the wedding, they went on a trip to the Maldives.
But after only a couple of days, tragedy struck.
Ashton drowned in the ocean.
Jade was arrested as the sole suspect.
She tearfully told the police that it was all her fault for insisting they go to a deserted island.
While on the boat, she wanted to take an underwater selfie and fell in.
Because she cared about her appearance, she wasn’t wearing a life jacket, so Ashton had to jump in to save her.
During the struggle, she panicked and dragged Ashton down into the water with her.
Ashton fought to push her back to the boat, but he exhausted himself and sank into the sea.
Since the incident happened abroad and in such a remote location,
by the time they called for help, it was already the next day when Ashton’s bloated body was recovered.
The authorities took a few pictures, asked a few questions, and let Jade take the body for cremation.
As a result, the local police couldn’t gather much evidence and quickly ruled it an accident.
But later, a key piece of evidence surfaced at the hotel where they had been staying.
It was a video from the lobby-footage of Jade and Ashton arguing.
In the video, Ashton angrily confronted Jade, demanding to know where all the money had gone.
Jade sneered and said she had donated all of it to a children’s charity.
“Since you say you love me for who I am, then it shouldn’t matter if I gave away my parents’ inheritance, right?”
Ashton flew into a rage.
He smashed a teacup on the spot and stormed back to their room.
Shortly after this argument, the two had gone out on that seemingly sweet boat trip together.
It was all very strange.
The police reopened the investigation and finally uncovered crucial evidence that proved Jade had framed him for murder.
