Lexi’s p. o. v
I looked at the dress silently then smiled happily. It was beautiful and a perfect fit .
This was the first time I was wearing such a pretty dress and it was all because of that woman.
I still didn’t trust her but unlike the others, she didn’t try to force her way into the hut to capture me.
Although the lethal spell was still activated, it was slowly getting weak. I needed to perform another ritual soon to lift it up, despite it taking most of my energy and making me unconscious.
I groaned softly then walked to the mat and sat down.
“I still feel so lonely.” I whispered to myself then lay down sadly.
Ever since I could remember my mother was always cold and harsh to me. I went through a lot of rituals and tests so I could become strong.
According to her, I was as good as dead if I couldn’t sum up how strong she was. There were times she acted crazy and wanted to kill or sacrifice me at the altar of rituals but I survived it all luckily. I was hit whenever she was in a bad mood and insulted, to her I was a burden and a weakness.
“She’s my mother.” I always told myself so I easily forgave her because I loved her and she was all I had.
I worked hard day and night and I paid no attention to eating, bathing or dressing up. All I ever wanted was for her to acknowledge me as her daughter and blood, but the more I improved, the more she ignored and mocked me.
For years I endured her harsh words and accepted my fate. I was a useless child who could never live up to her expectations.
Then one day from nowhere a group of men ambushed us, my mother went to face them directly while I hid in the hut like a coward.
I heard her screams and cries as they abused her the way they wanted to.
It went on for hours until finally everything died out.
As scared as I was I decided to go out and check on her, but I only came face to face with the men who were looking very furious. On the ground were a lot of dead corpses and so was my mother’s body.
I felt powerless and couldn’t run even when my mind was yelling for me to. My body was trembling as I sobbed bitterly over the loss of my mother.
They stood there laughing at me and making plans on how to use me for my powers after having their way with me.
“I’ll bury you mother, you will finally rest.” I whispered softly as the men approached me.
They pinned me down laughing as they tore my clothes off violently.
“We will take turns with this bitch as revenge for her mother killing a lot of men.” One said as the others agreed.
“To think the entrance could have a barrier!” The other spat furiously.
“Don’t worry we got this pretty child after all” He said then laughed.
I tried fighting back but they easily overpowered me. Before they could rape me and have their way with me, I felt this calm force grow from within me and from nowhere the men began screaming and falling back.
With my own eyes I saw their flesh decay and rot in a minute.
I was shocked but I believed that my mother’s spirit was still there watching over me, that’s why I decided to take over everything and that included the spellbook of dark magic.
With years I got better and I was able to protect myself from any harm. I missed my mother dearly and felt so lonely but sadly I had nowhere to go or another place I could call my home.
I only ate fruits and barriers whenever I was starving and the clothes I had were worn out and looked like rags.
When my mother was alive I ate a decent meal and wore normal clothes once in a while, but now everything was different.
“Kid.” The woman called loudly outside the hut.
I quickly got to my feet and rushed to the door standing there, debating whether I should open the door or not.
“My husband and I have cooked some meat and we were wondering if you would like to eat some?” She asked.
I slowly opened the door slightly and peeked.
She was standing with a huge leaf in her hand, and on that leaf was burnt meat.
I swallowed hard then looked at the man who stood a bit further from the woman.
“You can come out and get it.” She said as I fully opened the door angrily.
Did she think I was a fool!. I knew how most people tricked others with food just to capture then or make them their slaves!. I read similar tales in magazines and books!.
“I won’t eat your meat!” I screamed on top of my voice.
“And why is that?” She asked loudly.
“Nice try but I’m not dumb to eat poisoned food!” I answered on top of my voice.
She kept quiet for a few seconds then leaned forward and put the meat on the ground.
“You know what, I’m done asking you nicely. If you are hungry feel free to come and get this, If not then the wild animals will eat it for you. I would have brought it to you but I won’t because of the spell at the entrance.” She said, shocking me.
How the hell did she know about it!. Was she perhaps a witch too!.
“I know your magic is on top level because of your aura. So if you think my husband and I really did poison the meat, you can easily make an antidote. Now then, goodnight young lady. I will see you in the morning when I bring you breakfast.” She said then turned and walked to the man linking her hand to his.
I watched patiently as they walked away. Once they were out of my sight, I quickly rushed to the meat and grabbed it, biting into it without wasting a second.
Drool rolled down my chin as my eyes filled with tears.
The meat tasted heavenly and for the first time I appreciated that woman’s help. I cared less if the food was poisoned or not, I was finally eating something delicious.
