“Ahhh!”
“There’s a madman with a knife slashing people in the bathroom!”
A blood-curdling scream came from not far away, and a person covered in blood stumbled out. The crowd, once gathered for gossip, erupted in panic, screaming and fleeing in all directions. The scene descended into chaos, and I was jostled so much by the crowd that I could barely stay on my feet.
“Anders!”
Anders, who had been right beside me, was nowhere to be seen. I turned back, and that’s when I locked eyes with the madman.
It was an unfamiliar face. How did he manage to sneak into our class reunion?
That brief moment of eye contact made him notice me.
Just then, Larry Tate stepped in front of me, shielding me from the man. I noticed he hesitated in his steps as if he had deliberately made a decision. This wasn’t an accident-it was an intentional attempt to kill.
Larry Tate’s body completely covered mine, and I finally let out a breath of relief. But just as we were at a standoff, I suddenly heard soft sobs from not far away.
“Larry…”
Katie Baker, who was cowering in a corner, had tears brimming in her eyes. Instinctively, I glanced at Larry Tate’s reaction.
The killer hesitated to approach because Larry Tate was taller and physically imposing. But if Larry left, the madman’s target would undoubtedly be me.
In a panic, I grabbed Larry Tate’s arm.
“Don’t go…”
He turned his back to me and left me with just one sentence, then walked away.
“I’ll bring Katie Baker over, and I’ll protect you both.”
Sure enough, as soon as Larry Tate moved, the killer charged right at me.
My back was pressed against the wall, and my heart pounded wildly. If I could time it right and crouch down, maybe he’d run into the wall because of his speed, giving me a chance to escape.
But as he got closer, I felt like my body wouldn’t cooperate. In the end, I closed my eyes.
If there’s a next life, I swear I’ll never fall in love with Larry Tate again.
“Summer Cooper!”
At that moment, the sound of the knife hitting a body and Larry Tate’s horrified cry came at the same time.
But… why doesn’t it hurt?
I opened my eyes nervously and saw that the police had already subdued the madman.
Anders came running from outside, bawling his eyes out, calling out for Kevin.
I was confused-Kevin Branch wasn’t here.
Then I heard coughing from beside me. I looked down and saw blood pouring from Kevin Branch’s shoulder, soaking half of his shirt.
His face was pale, but he still forced a smile. “As long as you’re okay… that’s all that matters.”
My brain took a few seconds to process what had just happened.
“An ambulance!” I shouted.
From the moment I saw him until he was carried onto the ambulance, my body wouldn’t stop shaking. The knife was lodged in his wound, and the doctors had to carry him face down.
It must hurt so much…
Thankfully, the ambulance had arrived with the police.
Thankfully.
