Simon is a man of action; he’s genuinely prepared to shut down the orphanage and terminate the contract in my name. He even contacted a lawyer and that night posted a message on social media visible only to me.
I know he’s trying to force me to show up. But he’s bound to be disappointed. Because I’ve become a wandering spirit, a ghost.
Seeing everything he’s doing, it’s not true that I’m not disappointed. After all, I’ve loved him for ten years. Since my mother passed away, he has been my only family. I love him and respect him.
When I decided to open the orphanage, he was very supportive. He understood that I wanted to give homeless children a home and share my love with them. Each child is a result of our joint efforts.
But I never expected that one day, everything I loved would be destroyed by his own hands-just to vent his anger towards Hollie.
The children at the orphanage all knew him.
They greeted him warmly, calling him “brother” with every breath.
As I looked at those familiar faces, the thought of what they would soon face twisted my heart in anguish.
I could only place my hopes on James.
I hoped he would win.
Our partnership was split 50/50.
As long as he didn’t agree, the measures to close the orphanage wouldn’t take effect.
When James received the documents, he erupted in anger, “Are you out of your mind?! Are you trying to destroy her life’s work?!!”
Others might not understand.
But doesn’t he, as her husband, know?
I had poured countless hours into this orphanage, and he knew it best.
Back when my reputation was in tatters, I had no choice but to collaborate with James under the Smith name.
In reality, I was the one who handled everything personally.
“Then let her come out and talk to me; otherwise, there’s nothing to discuss.”
Simon lightly tapped his fingers on the table, seemingly indifferent.
James thought he was insane.
He didn’t even know where I was; as a partner, how could James know?
“Is it reasonable for you to come here to demand someone while not even trying to comfort her during your argument?”
“Isn’t she with you?”
“If she were here, would you even be negotiating with me?”
James paused for a moment, quickly regaining his composure.
“Stop pretending; besides you, who else would she go to? You’re just trying to fool me with a fake body.”
James didn’t understand what he was saying.
But he was adamant about protecting the orphanage; it could not afford a single mistake.
However, Simon had never been the type to undertake uncertain endeavors.
Once the lawyer arrived, he promptly pointed out numerous irregularities in the orphanage, even filing a complaint with the court.
He forcefully dismantled the orphanage.
I looked at Simon in disbelief.
I never expected him to go this far.
All of this just to force me to appear and apologize to Hollie!
I was infuriated.
I felt like charging at him and choking him, demanding to know why.
But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t stir even a ripple.
James shouted with red eyes, “Simon, one day you will regret this!”
Hollie whispered to Simon, “Simon, are we being too harsh? What if Laura gets angry?”
“If she gets angry, then let her be. Who told her to put on such a show just to avoid apologizing to you?”
