But Simon refused to believe that.
“Where did you take Laura? I have something to discuss with her regarding the orphanage.”
The orphanage was something James and I co-founded. We were collaborators, but we usually only spoke during working hours. It was because of this that Simon constantly misunderstood.
Later, I hired an assistant to replace me at work, cutting off any chance of interacting with James.
“Heh, stop pretending. Do you think I don’t know you were the one who took her away?”
Pulling off such a switch in front of everyone wasn’t something I could do alone. Simon could only think it was James who helped.
On the other end of the line, James was baffled. “What are you talking about?”
“Don’t play dumb. Wasn’t it you who took Laura? Do I really need to spell out your little affair?”
“What nonsense are you spouting? There’s nothing between me and her. But you-what about you and Hollie? Simon, have you forgotten the promises you made to your parents? What about all those vows? What have you been doing for the past six months?”
Simon let out a cold laugh. “What does it matter to you? Even if I no longer love her, she will never stop loving me.”
James was furious. “You-!”
But Simon hung up before he could finish.
He was right about one thing. I do love him. How much do I love him? Even if he doesn’t love me anymore, I would still love him.
But that was what I thought before I died. After death, I realized that love is fleeting, ever-changing.
His love disgusted me to my core. If I were still alive, I would definitely divorce him now!
Sensing his troubled mood, Hollie hurried over and said, “It’s normal for him not to admit it. He’s only calling to provoke you. Simon, don’t get upset.”
Simon remained silent. His eyes were fixed on the screen-our chat window.
The most recent message I sent was from the day I made a mistake. I apologized and begged him not to ignore me.
Oh, how much I loved him.
He used to love me just as much.
When we were together, we did argue sometimes. But Smith would never let me stay upset for long. After every argument, he would secretly order flowers for me, then cuddle me and act all playful.
I asked him why.
He said, “You’re my wife. It’s only natural to make you happy.”
But everything changed after Hollie appeared.
Whenever we fought, he’d grow impatient, even accusing me: “Can’t you be more like Hollie, more understanding?”
Understanding? Back when we got married, he promised he would believe in me unconditionally, that he would pamper me, and that no matter if I was right or wrong, he would always stand behind me. He was my strongest support.
Now, that support had become a spear, stabbing me in the back with his own hands.
This was the first time I didn’t reply to him. Staring at the empty chat history, Simon grew more irritated, his brows furrowing.
Suddenly, he relaxed and a mocking smile appeared on his face.
“Fine, Laura. Looks like you’ve got some guts. Let’s see if you can stay hidden forever.”
