Lorenzo’s POV
I broke free and tried to dash towards her but it was too late. The bomb went off and she was
caught in the aftermath.
The shock wave pushed me and all other officers backwards. The heat was intense and I felt a few
hairs on my face burn to cinders.
My ears began to ring and I covered them with my hands and groaned.
The smell of fire soon over came the place and i could feel orange and red flames dancing in the
distance.
I peeped from my hiding spot and saw the lieutenant writhing in pain. Her back was terribly burnt
but she was alive.
“She’s alive!”
I tried to run to her but the guards held me back. I fought them off and rushed to her. The worst
was over. I had to help her.
I went over to her and was afraid to touch her. The back of her uniform had been burned off and
her back eqs expose and the skin was raw and terribly red.
If she was a werewolf, she was going to heal up but it didn’t make this any less painful.
I touched her and reached out my telepathic link to her.
“Are you a werewolf?”
Se responded and I felt some relief. She was going to be fine but she still needed medical
attention.
“She needs a doctor! Now!”
Someone was finally brave enough to stand up and he called the ambulance and fire department.
I didn’t know what to do with her. If I was to help her stand up or if I should just leave her there
on the debris covered floor.
“Can you walk?”
She nodded with painful and angry tears in her eyes. It wasn’t difficult to tell that she was going
to tender in her resignation letter soon.
I cleared the debris from around her and suddenly, someone grabbed me and forced me to the
ground.
“Hold him down! Don’t let him get away!”
The captain finally grew some balls to stand up from behind the barrier and was shouting orders
for his men to grab me and take me to the questioning room.
I struggled and fought but they didn’t let go. As I was being pulled away, I locked eyes with the
Lieutenant.
“Thank you,” she said to me, via the mind link. “And I don’t think that you had anything to do
with this.”
Her voice was weak and full of anger. I was being dragged away and the fire department burst in.
I was hauled to the questioning room that had been unscathed by the fire and was forced into a
chair.
“This is all your fault!”
The captain slammed his hand on the desk and gestured to the destruction outside.
“I didn’t do anything! If I was the one that placed the bomb, my priority would be getting out of
there and not rushing to help one of the officers that intends to arrest me…”
“This could have been avoided if you told us the disarming code!”
“I don’t know the fucking code! Don’t you get it?!”
The office sighed angrily and paced around the room and finally stopped and stared at me
“What is your name?”
“Lorenzo Kade.”
“And where were you flying from?”
“Moonlight Pack. I came to see my fiancee. She is staying her for some business with the Alpha.”
The man looked at me with raised eyebrows.
“You know the Alpha?”
I nodded my head.
“Yes. He was an old classmate of mine.”
The captain looked at me skeptically. And just as he was about to say something, someone
rushed into the room.
“Sir…”
“Damn it, Corporal! I’m in the middle of a…”
“Forgive me, Sir. But we found something in the debris.”
Hr pulled out the silk covered book from behind his back and set it on the table.
My heart skipped a beat. I was panicking internally. What if it had been burned in the fire.
I looked at the silk and it seemed fine. It was a little charred around the edges but that was it.
The captain looked at me skeptically and realized my interest in the silk bundle.
“Is that yours?”
“Yes. It was a book from my father-in-law. I was asked to deliver this to his daughter.”
The captain slammee his hands on the table and glowered at me but I didn’t flinch. I had done
nothing wrong. I knew who did this but it was going to be useless telling these blockheads that a
stalking psycho was out to kill me. It was the only logical explanation. The question is: how he got
the bomb in my bag in the first place.
“You are testing my patience, Lorenzo.”
“And you are testing mine, Captain. I told you everything that I know. I didn’t do this.”
The captain exhaled, eased off the table and turned to his Corporal.
“Call the Alpha. Tell him we have a terrorist here. This is a matter of security.”
I looked a him in shock.
“What?! I said I’m innocent!”
“And I don’t believe you. You have a lot of explaining to do, Mr. Lorenzo.”
I was snarling angrily but it wasn’t going to do me much good. I had to figure a way out of here.
“I’m entitled to a call. It’s the law. Let me get a lawyer or someone that can help me.”
Our eyes were in a deadlock. If he was going to keep me here, I was going to be detained lawfully.
Unless he wanted to battle it out with me and explain why he denied me my rights.
He gritted his teeth and turned away from me.
“Fine! You get one call and you better make it count. I am going to follow you to the phone
booth.”
I accepted his terms and we left the room. As we walk to the phone booth, we noticed the
medics rushing around and attending to the injured lieutenant.
They placed her face down on the stretcher and wheeled her past us.
“Stop!”
She asked them to stop right in front of me and the captain. She sat up even though the medics
urged her to lie back down.
“Thank you for helping me.”
I gave her a smile but the captain blocked me and walked over to her.
“Cassidy, you are going to be just fine. I’ll come see you in the…”
“Screw you, John! I am your mate and you put me in harms way. You were so ready to let me die.
I hate you!”
Her voice was loud enough and every one turned to face captain John.
“I was only trying to do my job, Cass.”
“Fuck you and your job! I hate you! Since you value your job more than your mate, let me make
this easier for you. I reject you as my mate!”
There was a loud murmur in the air and hands coveree mouths in shock. I suddenly understand
why the lieutenant was so angry and sad about being asked to diffuse the bomb.
“Don’t see ever again! And even come to the hospital. We are through!”
The medics wheeled her away and the captain called out to her.
“Cass! Cass!!”
There was no reply and she was put in the back of the vehicle.
The captain cursed angrily under his breath and when he found all eyes on him, he snapped.
“What the fuck are you all looking at?!”
He pushed me forward angrily to the booth and I couldn’t help but smile. He got what he
deserved.
I grabbed the phone and called Erica.
The phone rang and I was praying that she would pick and that she wasn’t in a meeting.
“Erica, come on. Please pick up.”
I was slowly losing hope and suddenly…
“Hello..?”
