Lorenzo’s POV
Alpha Roland walked up to me and he asked the guards that were watching us to give us some
privacy.
“Lorenzo, what are you doing here? You aren’t sick, are you?”
He took in my green scrubs and the weary look on my face.
“Nothing and no, I am not sick. I just thought that I should help with the relief efforts. I know I
have been absent for a while and I think that this is the least that I can do for the pack in these
difficult times.”
The king smiled weakly and gave me an encouraging pat on my shoulder.
“You are a good man, Lorenzo. The people will remember you greatly for this.”
I smiled weakly and said nothing. I was still in shock from seeing the woman give birth. My hands
still shook lightly as I imagined that I was still carrying that tiny baby in my arms.
Speaking of arms, I caught a glimpse of Alpha Roland’s. It was the first time I noticed that he was
carrying a package that was wrapped in expensive silk.
“Alpha, what is that?”
He exhaled and took the package out from under his arm. He looked at it longingly and spoke
with nostalgia in his voice.
“Lorenzo, I have been deep in thought all day yesterday. And I’ve decided that you cannot stay
here. Things are getting worse by the day. Hazan is becoming bolder by the second. I need you to
protect my daughter, Erica. She is going through something – strange – and she needs all the
support and positivity that she can get.”
As I listened to the king speak, I became more and more confused. What did any of this have to
do with the package in his hand?
Luckily, I didn’t have to wait long to find out.
“Lorenzo, this package contains a book, a very special book and it has been in my family for
generations. I need you to give it to Erica. She needs it for difficult times ahead. I only hope that
she finds light in its pages just like it did for me so many years ago.”
He stretched his arm towards me and I took the package from him.
“What exactly is it?”
It is a Lycan Grimoire, Lorenzo. Erica is a pure breed alpha wolf as you know and she has started
experiencing changes in her wolf. This book will help guide her through those dark times and I
need you to be there with her for comfort and solace. I am proud of the efforts that are trying to
put into protecting our pack but the greatest deed that you can do right now is protect its future
Luna. This is a job I can only entrust to you.”
My hand stroked the expensive and soft silk that draped the thick and heavy book.
Deep down I was glad. I had already made plans to leave the pack and this coincided with them
perfectly. However, I did not expect to be where Erica was. I was hoping that some distance
between Erica and I would keep her safe from the stalker who was after me.
I wanted to protest to this job but the tired, weary, and miserable look on Alpha Roland’s face
convinced me otherwise. He had been good to me and this was the least that I could do for him
to thank him for all his kindness.
I sighed softly and put the book under my arm.
“I will protect your daughter with my life, Father. You can count on me.”
The king’s face lit up and he placed his hand on my shoulder.
“You have no idea how much this means to me, son. It is good to know that my kingdom will be
in good hands. With the way Hazan is striking our park, I doubt I’ll be alive for much longer. I will
be honored to have you take my place as Alpha, once I pass away and have my daughter at your
side as the Luna. I wish for peace in my pack but I doubt that I will get it in the short lifetime that
I have left.”
I gently scolded the king against talking about his death but he waved it away.
“I am old enough, Lorenzo. I have done the best I can for my pack and every day, the Moon
Goddess calls me closer to death. Who am I to refuse her call? But one thing is for sure, I would
never let Hazan take me alive and I will not allow him to molest my queen. If he decides to fight
me, I will fight him to the death and I will die on my feet like a man.”
I looked at Alpha Roland in respect. His words challenged me and at the same time, it filled me
with guilt.
He was entrusting me with the life of his daughter when I wasn’t even sure if I still loved her
anymore.
I continued to think about Erica and I concluded that maybe I had strayed away from her. I had
allowed myself to be so carried away with Clarissa that it dulled my feelings for her.
Maybe I did still love her and this probably was the best time to reinstate that love.
“I’ll protect her with my life. You don’t need to worry. I’ll book a flight tomorrow to Blue Hades
Park. I’ll make sure that this book gets to Erica.”
He gave me a nod of approval and suggested that I head home and rest for the journey ahead.
“And Lorenzo,”
He had turned to walk away but he stopped in his tracks and turned to look at me.
“Those scrubs fit you well. Have you ever thought of a career in health?”
I gave a polite smile and turned down his suggestion.
After what I saw today, there was no way I was going to consider being a doctor or even a nurse.
Business was what I was good at. It was best I stuck to it.
I watched as the king walked away and I stared down at the bundle in my hands.
I was filled with curiosity. He had said that Erica was undergoing some strange changes with her
wolf and I was intrigued to know what they were.
I had known Erica for a long time and I had never seen her in her wolf form.
The thoughts disappeared from my mind in a few minutes and I called my newly appointed
manager.
“Good afternoon, Sir.”
I skipped the pleasantries and dove straight into business.
“How are our company accounts looking at the moment?”
There was the clicking of keyboards and soon he replied.
“We’re doing quite well, Sir. Our profits have gone up by 20% and seem to be rising steadily.”
I gave a nod.
“Good. I would like you to donate $200, 000 to the makeshift hospital here in Moonlight Pack.”
My request startled my manager. And it took a while for him to find his footing.
“Excuse me, Sir? But we…”
I rolled my eyes and replied roughly and decisively.
“You heard me. Get it done. Now.”
