Dante’s POV
I was in my office going through some documents when I heard a knock at the door.
“Come in,” I said coldly without lifting my head from the papers on my desk.
My Beta, Robert, walked in and placed himself on the chair right in front of my desk.
“Good afternoon, Alpha. I can see that you are busy.”
“And I can see that you are here,” I said emotionlessly, still not bothering to raise my head to look
at him. “If you are here Robert, then had better be something good.”
There was a silence between us for a while and the only thing that could be heard was the sound
of my pen scratching across the paper.
I could feel Robert’s eyes on me but I wasn’t moved to care. I had work to do and he could sit
there and stare at me for all I cared.
“I actually came to give you a report on the Enterprise is so far.”
“Okay, go on. I’m listening.”
He pulled out a paper from a file that was under his arm and straightened it out in front of me.
The sound of the crinkling paper drew my attention but without raising my head from the desk, I
stole a glance at him.
We actually have three new investors, Alpha Dante. A certain Vincent Lanning, Gregory Black, and
Claire Rue.
He read the names out to me but I had no interest in knowing who they were. My only concern
was that they had bought the stocks that we had for sale that were left by the other investors
who pulled out of the company.
He put the paper away and it was then that I raised my head and looked at him.
“Is that all you have to tell me, Robert? Is there anything else that you feel requires my
attention?”
Robert looked at me quite confused.
“You seem to be very upset, Alpha Dante. Care to tell me what the problem is?”
I scoffed, stood up, and walked to the liquor cabinet in my office.
I grabbed the bottle and inspected the contents in it. I grabbed two shot glasses and walked back
to my desk and placed one in front of Robert and one for myself.
I poured the both of us a drink and before he could take his, I downed mine in a single gulp.
Robert looked at me skeptically and set his shot down; it had barely touched his lips.
“I believe something is bothering you, Alpha. Care to tell me what it is?”
I looked at him with light annoyance but his face was calm and expressionless.
“I was expecting news from you.”
“Was there something in particular that you wanted me to say?”
I looked at Robert with a raised eyebrow and it took about two minutes for him to finally
understand what I was asking him.
He didn’t begin to talk right away and first down the contents of his glass and relaxed properly in
his chair.
“Yes, I did get feedback from our client, if that is what you are asking.”
I leaned forward eagerly.
“And what did he say?”
Robert took a deep breath, grabbed the bottle, and poured himself another shot.
“Unfortunately, he escaped…”
I slammed my hand angrily on the table and the force caused Robert’s whiskey to spill on the
floor.
“He escaped?! What do you mean he escaped?!”
Robert was calm, stood his glass upright, and poured himself another shot. He drank it
immediately in one gulp before I had the chance to unleash my anger and knock it over again.
“It means what it means, Alpha Dante. We can’t find where he is but I suggest that you give our
clients some time and he’ll get back to us with more positive feedback.”
My eyebrow furrowed in anger and I clenched and unclenched my fingers, looking for ways to
dissipate the anger that was sizzling inside of me.
“He had better get back to us with more positive feedback else I am going to make His life a hell.”
“I suggest that you calm down, Alpha Dante. We actually have more important things to worry
about. You have the council bearing down on your neck for marriage to Laura and Hazan is
threatening your doorstep.”
I looked at Robert in surprise. Erica was the only person that I had told about my phone call with
Hazan.
“How do you know that Hazan is planning a means to attack us?” I asked him curiously.
Robert smiled and leaned back in his chair.
“I am your Beta, Dante. Let’s just say that my ears are on the ground and I hear more than you
think.”
Newfound respect for Robert was bubbling inside of me and I leaned back in my chair as well.
We sat there in silence and my thoughts began to stir themselves up in my mind.
I had tried to call Erica earlier but she ignored my calls and wouldn’t reply to my texts. I couldn’t
get the image of her monstrous black wolf out of my head. The way it snarled at me and bared its
teeth was terrifying but at the same time, I felt intrigued. There was something about her that
just seemed different. I wanted to make her my queen, my Luna, but all she did was reject me
and push me away. How could I make her understand that my heart belonged to her? Whatever I
had with Laura had died years ago which was why I hadn’t married her up till now. Erica was
within my grasp and I wasn’t crazy enough to let her go. Not this time.
“Also, what are we going to do about the jewel?” Asked Roberts, finally breaking the silence
between us. “If Hazan is threatening to attack us and take the Jewel, we need to be ready and
make sure that it is in a safe location.”
I grabbed the liquor bottle and pulled myself another shot.
“There is no need to worry, Robert. The Jewel is in the safest location possible. No one can open
the safe and take it and even if someone managed to open it, only a pure breed alpha wolf can
handle the gem without getting hurt or destroyed.”
Robert was still very uneasy and set his shot down and pushed it away from him.
“I admire the security detail on the Jewel but we need to remember that Hazan is dangerous. If
he wages war, we need to have a plan and we need to have the warriors ready. I understand that
you are taking this lightly because you don’t want to throw the entire pack into chaos but we
can’t keep hiding the imminent danger forever. Soon or later, word will get out.”
I stood up and walked to the window. I looked out of it and admired the beautiful pack that I had
under my rulership and protection.
“I am working on a plan, Robert. You just need to relax.”
I heard Robert’s deep skeptical voice in the background.
“I just hope this plan is formed soon. I don’t think we have much time on our hands.”
