Layan had heard that the connection between mates was extremely strong, but he never imagined how much. He could only say that he was in complete sync with his she-wolf, Priscilla.
No matter what move he made, no matter where he attacked, no matter how fast, she was there covering his back from Liam’s teeth. When he jumped on her body to tear some piece of it in an attempt to get to her throat and Liam’s mouth was near him she was simply frozen or burned for a few seconds, just enough time for him to do his job.
Liam who by this time was completely out of control, grunted so loudly that Layan shook his head and Priscilla covered her ears in immense discomfort. A trickle of blood began to trickle out of it and she frowned.
And it had only taken a second to open her eyes and find Liam’s mouth right in front of her eyes. Layan cursed and ran at him headbutting him and he hadn’t torn Priscilla’s neck, put had moved at a last second rolling on the floor. As a result her arm was now completely torn.
Layan bit down hard on the back of Liam’s neck shaking his head so hard that he tore the piece of skin off. He had to jump away as the latter thrashed mortally in pain.
The alpha only had time to release the disgusting piece of flesh into his mouth before dodging Liam’s lunging fangs. He jumped to the side watching the ground crack under Liam’s paws. At once the huge wolf moved his body fast this time hitting Layan and lifting him up.
The alpha crashed to the ground rotating on his body and with pain in his back from the impact. And within seconds the large body of his enemy was on him. Liam was really fast, however, Layan had no intention of backing down.
It was then that he saw that the wolf instead of attacking him raised its head whimpering and shaking. Perhaps… he was not mistaken when he detected Priscilla who at some point had climbed on top of him and her hands were in his thick fur. A faint smell of burning reached Layan’s muzzle and he knew instantly what he was doing.
Liam jerked hard trying to shake her off him, but Priscilla was tough and kept burning the fur trying to get to the jugular, but at a sharp jolt her body was thrown away from her enemy. She found herself lifted into the air, but steadied herself and creating a four-step ladder of smell she returned to the ground gracefully and running her hair back. Still, she couldn’t stop a trickle of blood from running down the edge of her lip and her arm from the previous attack hurt like hell.
Layan took advantage of Liam jerking in pain to run in Priscilla’s direction. Her side was soaked with blood that stopped running as she created a layer of glass over his skin, further preventing the bleeding. She raised her other arm and concentrating created a circle of high fire around Liam. It wouldn’t hold him for long, but long enough to find another way to get rid of him. They had tried attacking him directly, freezing him, burning him, ambushing him, and it wasn’t working. Liam was fast and strong, very strong, a strong enemy no doubt, one worth not holding back against. He had already helped finish him off once, a second time would be no problem.
-Layan stopped next to him, touching the hand of his wounded arm with his nose.
-Layan’s voice was flat, focused and very direct. He looked at her with a tense body- We have to finish this- she hadn’t told him but her power was running out, she was almost reaching her limit, if she continued like this she would most likely close her eyes and Layan would have to take care of everything. And he didn’t want this.
-I know, Priscilla,- he looked frustrated. They’d torn part of Liam’s body apart and still the fucker wasn’t going down.
Another loud growl was heard and this time they could see Liam pull his paw out from inside the circle of flames and it was almost roasted by putting it back in. Priscilla had used her power very concentrated and even her eyes had turned a red color.
-I want to try something. If it works, we can finish him off,- she said confidently, -I just need you to cover me, you’ll know how long, and when he’s near me, leave him.
Layan didn’t like that idea at all.
-That’s what your mother said when we fought Liam years before. Why the hell are the two of them so alike- Layan growled loudly at her, annoyed by her and his mother’s aptitude. Didn’t they trust them as alphas, strong as they were. She had watched as Hades nearly collapsed at the sight of his she-wolf as she fell to the ground badly wounded, he didn’t want that with Priscilla.
And she felt his frustration and the sea of feelings. Her hand caressed his head lovingly.
-I promise I won’t put myself in danger,- she smiled softly at him.
-Then what will you do?
The she-wolf blinked slowly in Liam’s direction and her expression became complicated.
-The same thing I did… when I killed my first victim.
And Layan shuddered as he listened to her. He knew very well what she was referring to. She had been a mere cub, barely ten years old, but hell with what she had done when she had awakened her power.
-Pris- his voice came out a little shaky.
She smiled at him.
-Why don’t you show me what you’re capable of now that you’ve bonded with that wild part of you. I’m sure you’re holding back.
The alpha growled at her.
-Don’t talk about him.
She snorted internally. They could have merged, but Layan was someone extremely jealous, and this was going to be an interesting topic, but not now.
-If you don’t want him mentioned, do your part,- she forced. Like her mother, controlling her partner wasn’t going to be so difficult after all. She would just have to use him… himself.
It was then that they heard a low howl and Liam’s body was forced out of the circle of fire burning his body in the process. Priscilla’s fire roasted the rest of his fur and he fell to the ground all burned up, leaving red, irritated skin in its wake. When she emerged completely there was no wolf left, only a deformed body with two pairs of orbs so red they melted into the flames.
-ayan,- Priscilla spoke very seriously.
-I know, precious- and that was what the alpha said to start running in Liam’s direction using himself as bait to divert his enemy’s attention from Priscilla.
The she-wolf took advantage and closed her eyes. She had to remember that feeling, the one from when she was a mere pup, with hardly any awareness of what would happen in her future, where her only goal had been to save the lives of her siblings. The only difference was that now it was her wolf and pack she would protect.
A faint smile appeared on his face as his chest throbbed. He felt his powers swarming in that area, just like that time. It was strange because they all felt the same, a wave of fuzzy, hot, aggressive energy and by the time he opened his eyes, they were completely black.
-Layan- the voice in the alpha’s head made him freeze and disappear from Liam’s angle of vision.
Liam, staggering, with even pieces of his body and blood falling to the ground and biting whatever appeared near him caught a glimpse of dark hair waving to his right. He bared his teeth and growled loudly turning that way.
-PRISCILA- Layan yelled as he saw Liam run in the direction of his mate. He trusted her, but not Liam and she wouldn’t let him touch her.
However…
