The Double Weddin’: NYSSA
My eyes opened in a room, dark and dusty.
What was goin’ on?
My legs were stiff when I sat up on the hard surface.
“Kazmir?” I called and there was no answer. “Kazmir?” Again I called, but my voice only echoed.
I was in a place.
Not the house, so where was I?
Just then, it dawned on me and I recalled correctly. It was in the mornin’ when he left for work. There was a knock at the gate. No, the house bell rang and I thought for no reason that it was Ariadne.
Why didn’t I call her to confirm?!
Tears welled up in my eyes but I fought so hard to take them back in.
This wasn’t the way forward, so what was the way forward?
What gave Calypso the gut to come into my house and kidnap me?
What did she do with my house after givin’ those men the order to take me to the ‘caban’ just as she mentioned?
Was this the caban?
“Let me go.”
No one was in the house except me.
How possible was that?
I should have known she was up to somethin’.
How could she do a thing like that to me?
For all that I knew, I was more than nice to her – only to be given this in return.
A kidnap!
My bones were weak.
I couldn’t stand on my feet.
Did she do somethin’ else besides kidnappin’ me? I touched my legs and they were more than just stiff. What should I do? How do I get out of here?
Just while I was thinkin’, there came a sound.
It was the footsteps of people – and they had to be men. Calypso had come to the house with men – meanin’ she was the only woman in their gatherin’ – orderin’ them around on what to do with me.
The steps were comin’ closer and I fell back on my back and shut my eyes, feignin’ sleep.
It was at this point I noticed somethin’ that came with me into this place.
It was buried in my pants pocket and it struck me as a tool I could use to leave this place as soon as I wanted. But I wasn’t sure, so I patiently waited for the steps to stop – so that I could confirm and check out what that was.
Was it my thoughts?
The sound stopped. When I wanted to open my eyes, I changed my mind ’cause they had come into the dusty room. Now I could hear voices. “Yes, Calypso,” the man said. “She’s asleep. The sedation is workin’.”
What sedation?
“Yes, Calypso.”
He said some more words and left again, shuttin’ the door after ‘im. I opened my eyes when I was certain that it was safe and touched the part of my pants that had the item in it. There and then, I confirmed that it was my phone. How careless could Calypso be?
I knew I shouldn’t smile in cases like this but I just had to. The realization of leavin’ this place soon dawned on me, even though I didn’t know how I was supposed to go ’bout it. I fell back on the floor when it felt as though someone was approachin’ the room, sittin’ up the next time when there were no more sounds.
What do I do?
There was nothin’ I didn’t think ’bout, especially how to leave the buildin’. It was an incomplete house that looked like a warehouse, causin’ worry to come awake in my system as I thought ’bout the fact that men could come into the buildin’ and kill me.
How ’bout Kazmir?
Wasn’t he lookin’ for me?
What happened to diallin’ my number? I wondered with a sigh that ran out of my mouth.
Takin’ my phone in my hand again, I didn’t see any signs or even a call from ‘im. Somethin’ was off and I couldn’t also place my hands on it. What was this ’bout? I sat up and managed to stand on my feet, feelin’ more than weak.
This could end my life.
I needed to leave this place as soon as possible.
But how was I supposed to do that? I took the phone from my pocket and looked at it again, more than confused ’bout how to go ’bout things.
But, I needed to send a text to Kazmir as soon as possible, so I clicked on his contact and was goin’ to do just that when I caught sight of somethin’.
Were my eyes hurtin’?
Definitely not. So what was I seein’?
It was an event.
An event that had just been concluded.
Wait, what?
I let go of the contact and rushed to his Facebook page where I would get the answers I was lookin’ for. My head shook at the result, and I looked around me to be certain there was no one comin’ close – not even that man.
“What?” Unable to hold myself, I let out.
That wasn’t me.
The weddin’ had just concluded yesterday. And that wasn’t me. Wait, was it what I was thinkin’?
Calypso!
How dare she?
Pacin’ the room, I stopped in my tracks to look at the pictures again. He was kissin’ her in a few, and they looked happy. This had to be a mistake Kazmir had made. He wasn’t aware and now it was all beginnin’ to make sense.
“My goodness.”
Mt chest tightened, and it dawned on me over and over and over again. I looked to my right and left, wantin’ to sip some water but there was nothin’ like that in this space.
Tears dropped, finally.
What has Kazmir done?
How was he so blind to not differentiate between myself and my sister?! I couldn’t blame ‘im at the same time. There was no difference at all and I could fall for this as well.
Footsteps.
I rushed to the floor after puttin’ the phone on silent so it didn’t make noise, hence reducin’ my chances of runnin’ away from this place. I had laid on the floor, shuttin’ my eyes and fightin’ back the tears that were threatenin’ to run down my face. Does this mean I had been here for days?
Two men were in the dusty space this time.
Before I knew it, they carried me while I hoped that the phone was not found. Placin’ me on a more cold floor, tyin’ my legs and hands with a rope. Sayin’ words I didn’t understand, in a language I had seldom heard, they walked out and shut the door.
I had to leave this place. As soon as possible.
